Joni Mitchell , Janis Joplin and Grace Slick remain the three reference female voices of those years . Manhole is the album that consecrates and gratifies Grace Slick for the great work she did together with the Great Society first and then with Jefferson Airplane

Grace was a uniquely wonderful rock star. And I'm so glad she survived into beautiful and dignified older age. As did all the band. Love everything Jefferson Airplane.

I had only the lyrics "crawl like a baby" in my memory. I looked up and listened to every song on every album that Spotify and Apple had for the airplane and it was not there. Finally found it here after much effort. Cheers mate and thank you

"Miss takes are maid because worlds are miss under stud It's all in vowel you talk. Waking over somebody's body Isabella strangle thing to do It's all over if not softlee you stalk Seams like they fight all the bend when you climb They'll rip on out again in your next body unwind Wear it again, tear it again, body flying its way through time Soft rest repair repeat inside through quiet sublime." Words by Grace Slick as published in the lyrics booklet with the album 1973

I bought the same album in 1986. In those years, the debate was similar to the Aerosmith debate: They did better music when they were stoned.

I got a chance to see this sung live in boston- right after the record Manhole was released- with Craig on fantastic lead guitar- and david friberg - was there too- and they did the entire Manhole theme live- all 17 mins. approx. - what a thrill to see this done live- what other band would even attempt what they used to ???? at Boston music hall- 1974 maybe?

@@susandonelanburke1699 cannot be a lot of us left- we met Craig after the show- we only heard grace in dressing room - can't miss that voice- maybe if thinking- we could have asked chaquico-to introduce us? - but blew the chance- Barbata came by said hi to us- while we were outside dressing room-

I saw them at Winterland in SF play this. I was just a kid and I loved it! Their first tour as Jefferson Starship. 1974!

I was at that show too. As I remember, maybe not correctly, they played Boston after opening the tour in Providence Rhode Island. Was thrilled to hear them perform the Manhole album, then followed them down the east coast. This music is as fresh and unique today as then.

If you have the lyric booklet from the album "Manhole" where this song is included, you will discover that the lyrics printed in said booklet are a bunch of gibberish - just like the song intends.
