I think Grace doesn’t yet grasp the enormity of the torch she carries for so many others that can’t carry their own. What many love about her is the way she does it so humbly with poise, class and (of course) grace.

Great reaction Petra, sorry I have not commented on this video before, I have watched it several times. Poise, presence, intelligence, courage not to mention talent and of course grace. This 13-year-old had the best of the music industry in the palm of her hand and it was they who were learning the lessons and she who was teaching. So hard for me to put into words how much admiration and respect I have for this young lady. I just hope that she can grasp the idea of the amount of love that her fans have for her and know, that as much as we love her music, we would never want to pressure her in any direction that she did not feel true to her own heart. Love You Grace.

Hi Petra, I live near Grace, and naturally everyone in our area is extremely supportive and proud of her and what she has accomplished. But, it's so amazing to see that our little girl has truly touched the hearts of millions of people around the world the same way she has touched ours. One thing I have observed in all of this is that there is a real human connection between Grace and her fans. Her fans seem to genuinely care about her as a person as well as her well-being, and I know she feels the same towards them. Also, her fan base spans all generations which is also very unusual for an artist her age. Petra, I just want to thank you for being so supportive of Grace throughout her amazing journey and I'm sure that she is very aware and appreciative of you. It is easy to see that you are as kind and compassionate a person as Grace is. Thanks, and please keep the videos coming...I really enjoy them so much!

I remember when I was a young girl rushing out to the flower garden and ripping up several flowers and proudly handing them to my mom. She realized that my intent was one of love, she gently explained to me that flowers bloom and show their true beauty when they have the warmth of sunlight and tender loving care. She planted them for everyone who sees them to enjoy and although she was grateful that I thought of her, young tender plants need time to grow. From that day forward I understood that you can't hurry beauty along, it takes time and that is our story of Grace. We as her fans, her record producers all who have a steak in her, would be better served to let Grace spend all the time she needs getting what she needs to grow into the incredible little human that we all know and love. I hope we can all be as kind to Grace and she is to all of us.

Well said Andy in the days of scandal allegations of sexual harassment in various fields of profession there is one person that's willing to pull the world together in tumultuous times we're living in. There is one person that's willing to shine a light at the end of the tunnel and her name is Grace Vanderwaal.

I know I'm nearly (not quite) 4 times Grace's age and I'm a guy, but I too find her such an inspiration! Such a GREAT roll-model for her younger fans to look up to as well as us, her older fans. I really like and admire how she hasn't let the industry mold her into the common bubblegum pop-star (that rebels and breaks out to be trouble later in life) but strives very stubbornly to stick to her own humble style, with lyrics that make us think and feel how much has gone into dreaming them up! There are days where I shuffle all her songs on repeat all day long without any guilt because there is no negative suggestions, but just good up-lifting music to sing along with, and that's such a great change compared to what all is out there. Yes I believe she deserved this award and she can take her career just as far as she wants to go! She is one confident self made young lady!

Hey Petra; That reaction was soooooo Beautiful. I was getting tears in My eyes with You so don't feel alone. Grace is AMAZING for any age but even more so because She's so young. How is it possible for little Grace VanderWaal to reach inside of Us grown adults and pull on our heart strings like She does. I can't imagine how a 13 year old can have Her level of maturity and understanding of the world around Her. She shows the traits of a Genius mind in Her ability to understand the REAL world around Her instead of the world the media wants every to believe. I think there was such an abundance of negativity in the world that on January 15, 2004 God gave Us Grace VanderWaal to help combat it. Petra, you never cease to amaze me. I love, love, love your reactions to Grace Vanderwaal and her music! I agree with you in so many ways -- you are able to put into words what I can't, and I really appreciate this about you. Petra, thank you for sharing where you are and some of the battles that you have had. Grace's song about darkness chasing her is definitely a darker song for her, and I can only imagine all that she battles every day being in the public eye, in the music industry, doing tours, etc. at such a young age. I am certain her parents try very hard to keep her grounded. Her humility is touching and inspiring...I think that's a big part of what we all love about her! So, Petra, thank you for your reactions and for sharing yourself with us. I am praying for you...and that you always remember that no matter what you are going through, God holds you in the palm of His hand. He never said bad things wouldn't happen to us, but He promised to be with us always and that he would never leave or forsake us. I pray you can find some comfort in those words. God bless you, beautiful Petra! Sending you a big hug of love from the U.S.!

Think about all of the awards shows and all of the acceptance speeches and how they just read off a list of people in a wooden manner, or get so emotional they can't express themselves. Grace was perfect; so emotional and so literate and so genuine. Which is reflected in the brilliance of her song lyrics. She made me cry, just as she makes me cry when she sings. Talking about yourself in reflection of Grace is entirely appropriate because it shows the empathy she has for others when she puts herself in their shoes, as well as the empathy you have for others, also. It demonstrates the success of both her message and yours. I watched different videos of this and bawled ((cried)) through them all. I was also thinking how busy Grace has been, because she had just been in Japan, again, and was rushed from Japan to Billboard in a whirlwind of craziness ... introducing her album in Japan, launching her "Just the Beginning" Tour, and attending Billboard to receive this award! Whew! Her head must be spinning and her eyes fluttering ...

Another great reaction Petra, you being a friend of Grace's now, it's so important to hear how you can relate to Grace and I'm sure she is just as concerned as we are on how you are doing. You can't understand how she's able to take out her thoughts and emotions in such a great way. You don't have to worry about what Grace may feel about your reactions, because as you said, she's tremendously empathetic, so she can feel perfectly what you feel and what you want to convey. Thank you for explaining your feelings and opinions again 💞

Grace should never again be compared to Taylor Swift. Taylor writes about ex-boyfriends. Grace writes of universal themes that effect the hearts and souls of every human person. Her music creates a Divine potentiality for healing. She was given to us as a gift, as a way to combat an industry filled with vulgar lyrics, and shallow hypocrites who often prostitute their talent in exchange for the 'almighty dollar.' I believe most of us know what we have here and are more than willing to do whatever necessary to protect and encourage her along the way. I, for one, pray for Grace daily. All my love to Grace, and to all her fan friends, of which I am one.

J May How kind of you to reply; it really meant a lot. Do you have a favorite song of hers? She has put out so many wonderful ones lately it has become rather mind boggling, huh? That being said, my favorite at this time is A Better Life, and after that, it would be City Song. My all time favorite would have been her first, I Don't Know My Name, but after the extra lyrics were added, l honestly have never liked it the same. Be well friend
@Sartorri46667 жыл бұрын
Jama Grant Not that it matters but the lyrics for I don't know my name were already there before AGT. Grace had to shorten the song to fit AGT's time requirement. Because that was our first hearing we all got used to it that way. I've heard plenty of people say they like the AGT version better. I think it's because it was a little faster than the recording and because of the energy she put into the last verse. That performance still chokes me up and the full version with Howie hitting the buzzer and Olivia running out on stage slamming into Grace... Oh boy, I'm getting misty eyed just thinking about it.

I think Grace's songs are about her own personal experience either by herself or with other people and sometimes just where she is at, example City Song. From hearing her talk about her song writing process she has mentioned this. She also said some songs are her just using her imagination of how someone might feel. One thing for sure, she is an amazing song writer, and a very singer and great live from what I have seen on KZbin. And Petra, you are very empathetic which is what you makes you a very endearing person, and why I watch you. Watching you here is the only way I can get to spend time with you.

If you listen carefully to the songs on the album you can hear her journey through the adversity of confronting and dealing with record company execs who wanted to make her a pop start without consulting her or caring about her wishes (see the Billboard interview included in the clips from last night). 1. Sick Of Being Told, as she explains in her concerts, tells the story of the first time the execs ran her over in a phone call 2. Insane Sometimes, I think tells the story of what she calls her `awkward' song writing sessions where she would be introduced to a stranger and then left in a room with them to write a song, or maybe it's just about seeing the exec she had to battle with. 3. Burned seems to be the story of her fighting to get Darkness Keeps Chasing Me included on this album even though it is different than all the rest and considerably more mature. I think she's the fire in Burned and the exec is the little boy. I have no idea what actually happened, but I imagine she pulled out the big guns by calling Simon directly who told the execs to back the fuck off. The Billboard interview is key, it is so impressive, and it makes it clear how much she has had to struggle to stay herself instead of being packaged as the new flavor of the month pop star. You've seen her concerts where she is barefoot and wearing bohemian dresses---this is most emphatically her, and she has won, and her antagonists at the record company have been forced to back off. The fact that she has the maturity and presence of mind to make this happen, instead of being led around by the nose like a little girl, is just amazing, and not only at her age, but at any age. Shania Twain was 25 when she was forced to put out a bland first album of cover songs that sounded like everyone else, and it wasn't until after that album and concert tour failed that Mutt Lange got involved and helped her put out her own music. But Grace wouldn't be pushed around like that. Yeah, Grace!

Lots of great comments here. This speech will "go viral." You're right, Petra. The reason Grace triggers such deep emotions in people is that she's an empath and wears her feelings on her sleeves. Grace was the last performer of the night, and, just before this acceptance speech, Grace had given an unforgettable performance of "Moonlight." The speech itself was the most dramatic moment of the entire night. BTW, you might have noticed Kelly Clarkson in the audience in tears. She won American Idol back in 2002, when she was 19, and she's now a huge star with a spectacular voice. But, honestly, I don't think there were many dry eyes in the house. It would be hard to overestimate the importance of this night for Grace. Billboard is perhaps the most respected "celebrity" authority in the industry, and the audience was filled with many of the most important artists, producers, and executives in the music world. I'm pretty sure this night will supercharge Grace's already meteoric rise to fame.

Thanks Petra! That audience was enraptured by Grace, and it wasn't a normal audience; it was an audience filled with jaded and cynical music industry insiders and artists that have been through the mill themselves, and yet they were all focused on her and moved to tears by her. This was Grace's first adult-level music industry award, and she stole the show. Selena Gomez followed Grace after the acceptance speech you just reacted to in order to accept the Woman of the Year award. Even though Selena nearly died a few months ago due to imminent kidney failure brought on by Lupus, and she was presented her award by the woman who donated the kidney that saved her, there weren't a third as many tears shed for her in that audience. Grace's charisma and genius is undeniable now. Last night clinched it; anyone who pretends otherwise is foolish.

Good afternoon, Petra! My name is Ronaldo, I was born and I live in Brazil (I hope you have heard good things about my country). I met you when I started to follow the trajectory of GRACE VANDERWAAL and I ended up becoming your big fan. A great proof that you are a special person is that you improve what is already perfect. Example: You have the power to value, enrich, enlighten the work of this new phenomenon that is Grace. From then on, I started to accompany you in your other videos and I came to the same conclusion, you have the power to value people and your work, in the end, I fell in love (in a good way and with all respect), for his work, his simplicity and transparency that conveys in his gestures, tears and especially in the gleams of his eyes. May God continue to enlighten you more and more and give you strength to overcome all the barriers that come in your life. Reflect: what the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the creator calls the butterfly. Hugs. PS. I hope you understand the translation from Portuguese into English and I'm sorry I can not speak or write in English, so I depend on Google translator. Strong hug! Mostrar menos RESPONDER

I like your word empathic, another thing to think about and i'm not sure how close I am about this, I haven't met her, you have. The ability to stand up in front of Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez etc., at her age and stay that focused is mind bobbling. I our country Grace is a grade 8 student, Gr. 8 students fall apart just knowing Selena is in the next room let alone stand up and sing and do a speech too. It's probably why she had problems with friends, because she is so much more mature then them

One thing that I feel could have been a challenge for Grace was getting the recording industry to let her be her own person, they will have developed ideas to take her in what they thought would be the most profitable direction for them and they would have insisted that due to years of experience they knew best. Many in that industry are very manipulative so the challenge for an artist of her age would be to stand her ground and insist that she do it her way and only her way and if they want a piece of the pie they let her be just Grace doing her music her way.

Not deserving that award isn't what she's saying, she's saying that she does deserve that award, but, there's thousands of others before her that they could have picked to have that award, but, they picked her to have the award Petra
@TheSpookychick7 жыл бұрын
I think she literally meant she doesn't deserve it. Her parents do. They got her to the AGT stage. Her fans do. They're the ones who purchased her albums, supported her, and went to her shoes. Syco and Columbia do. They helped put the album together and distribute it. Billboard helped promote her. She's being honest and humble. If it weren't for this team, she wouldn't be at this stage in her life.

There are many children with talent who have parents that don't want them to be entertainers. When a writer or producer gets an award it says a lot about the person they hire to sing the song or read the script. If a producer gets an award in the future they know it was because of Grace

Probably "Empathetic" rather than "empathic". The two words have as their root the word "empathy" - being able to sense the feelings of others. "Empathic" is often used in scientific writings, but "empathetic" is more common in ordinary parlance. And there's more: "Empathetic" is fairly straight-forward, meaning the ability to sense the emotions of others, largely by taking external and sometimes subtle cues from a person's appearance, statements, tone-of-voice - pretty much anything one could notice about someone else on an objective level. It's kind of like "sympathy" on steroids. "Empathic" can mean the same thing. (It was original the preferred word.) However, the way it has been treated by modern non-scientific writers suggests or outright states that the "empathic" ability to sense someone else's emotional state is a kind of ESP (extra-sensory perception, similar to telepathy). This form of the word is often used in science-fiction writing to mean the ability to directly receive the emotions and sensations being felt by someone else, as if the other person were a kind of sensory transmitter and the empath (empathic person) a receiver collecting the sensory data being "broadcast" by that someone else. Perhaps the best way of putting it is this: If someone bumped his/her head on something, the empathetic person would say, "Oh, I'm so sorry you hurt yourself." The empathic person would say, "Ouch, that really hurt." The question then is: Which one is Grace? That I can't answer. Common sense tells me she's very empathetic, but the seemingly inexplicable miracle of her music says she's actually empathic.

You should watch Mackenzie Ziegler new song ( Breathe ) sings about Suicide and depression and what you should do about it, One of her best. Not sure if wrote it or help write it, she is now writing her own music.
@Cal99ers7 жыл бұрын
Mackenzie can sing???
@SuperPalaver7 жыл бұрын
Cal 99ers Not really. It's a bit of auto tuned pop debris pretending to be singing. Maddie is simply going along with the machine and capitalising while she can, and quality isn't relevant. Nice enough kid, and her fans will lap it up, but it's instantly forgettable.
