BJ, yer not poor, you have Lydia. Hmm, it appears that in the neitherworld, gold comes out of the ground fully refined. In that case, that little bit of gold you have would be worth about $1800. Not bad. Doomie doesn't need gas, BJ's food clothes and entertainments are free, there doesn't appear to be any rent or taxes on the roadhouse or its utilities.. I know! Beej wants the money so he can buy Lydia a present!!

10 years later i simply must make sure you know that BJ does have to pay rent to his landlord, and a pretty high one. Also he usually got to pay a lot of fines and fees for all of his crime schemes or as payment for some professional help (like hiring dr. Zigmund Void to help him regain his memories). So, BJ actually DOES need money for living, not only for fun or for buying presents.

@@ledzep1990rostov Heeheehaha XD! How did you ever find Kid Me's comment marooned out here lost at cybersea clinging on digital driftwood? Parts 1 and 2 aren't even there anymore, having sank long ago. Thank you for rescuing that memory of her for me :). Oh, and which episode has BJ's landlord? I could have missed that one, and so get to see a new to me Beetlejuice episode! Haha you're absolutely right that he'd never get away with stiffing Doctor Zigmund Void out of his fee. I shudder to think how HE'D get revenge, knowing how that waiting room witchdoctor with *lesser* shrinking powers did. Though I'm still not entirely convinced Beej didn't go through all that on purpose just so Lydia would see his feelings for her, therefore falling under being a present.

@@SeaOfTides I know this show for more than 20 years now, and still keep rewatching it occasionally. Its a tonn of fun even now. There is at least one episode ("Relatively pesty", season 4, №61), where you can actually see BJ's landlord. BJ accidentally turned some ants into "aunts", and his landlord threatened to double rent pay for each additional "relative" (according to their contract), so BJ had to quickly find the way to get rid of his new aunts, even though he kinda liked them. So yeah, despite all his powers, Beetlejuice still needs money just like everybody else, he cant always just cast some spell and get anything he wants.

@@ledzep1990rostov Thank you so much for telling me! :) I must have somehow missed that episode but I found it and just watched! Too right!^^ I've seen them about a hundred and sixty seven times, and they keep getting funnier every single time I see them XD. I saw BJ's landlord! So he does pay rent. That must be where all that money goes that he gets from working for Lydia's parents. I suspect though, that BJ made those ants into aunts on purpose, so Lydia would see that bugs can be pests, and so she'd be less upset when he eats them.

@@SeaOfTides I'm just glad someone else watch it these days. Thought the show was totally forgotten. BTW, i was wrong: BJ's landlord said he was going to TRIPLE the rent for each additional relative, not double. Crazy to think that even after you die you still have to pay for accommodation. No rest for the wicked, i suppose. Just like Barbara said in the movie, "dying wont make the things any easier"

Yup. That's pretty much how it is in the real world too. Win a million dollars on a game show, Uncle Sam takes 75%.
