The fact that “it’s showtime” was like his main catchphrase in the cartoon but he only says it once in this film shows you how brilliant that catchphrase is. It is only said one time and he said at the exact perfect moment. That is it became so memorable that it became his number one catchphrase.

Beetlejuice was smiling embarrassed when Lydia was asked if she takes him as her husband because BJ thought that she will keep her promise but when she yelled "No!" he jumped. BJ kept his promise to Adam and Barbara since he scared the people out of the house and he also kept his promise to Lydia, that was to help the Maitlands and he did. ...and this is the thanks he gets: Lydia refuses to marry him and Barbara puts the sandworm on him. BJ liked Lydia. It is implied that he committed suicide over a girl and that's why he didn't want Lydia to make the same mistake. In the plot for Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian , Lydia summons BJ to save her father and BJ forgives Lydia and still wants to marry her.

Eh, he leveraged her desperation to save the Maitlands with a bad deal she couldn't say no to unless she was willing to let the Maitlands perish, which he knows she wouldn't. It's a pretty dirty move. Imagine you were desperate to save your family from being killed, time quickly running out, and the only one capable of saving them says they'd only do it of you were to do something you'd *never* actually want to do. You'd probably agree because your desperate enough to save your family to agree to anything at that point. So although, yes, she broke their agreement, the agreement was unconscionable in the first place, and Beetlejuice obviously knew this and took advantage of it. Either way, he's still a great character, 10/10, still dressing up as him for Halloween.

The funniest part about this movie (this part especially) for me is how my dad busted out laughing as those two people literally _stepped right up_ just to get their asses flown through the roof

This was the first movie I saw on VHS back in the day, and it still holds up really well. Effects are still really good for effects that were meant to be a little cheesy and weird. Michael Keaton doesn't terrify me like he did when I was a kid but he's still pretty creepy. Except one thing I didn't notice as a kid is that the score to this film is fricking amazing.

I think I was under five when I first saw this in passing on the television. Winona would become one of my favorite actresses and I aspired to be like her cool girl vibe in the 80s/90s. Somehow this movie slipped my radar so I saw it properly tonight in my thirties. Super fun and adored young Baldwin in it too. This era (late eighties/early nineties) is when Burton was at his best imo.

"that...is why I won't do two shows a night anymore babe. I won't..I won't do em"- one of the best. Beetlejuice is still a classic 80's film. Always been a fan as a young kid in the late 80's. Had several of the Kenner action figures back then..my cuz had the grave that made the figure disappear and appear mini on the bottom.

I like Beetlejuice. I know he's a villain, a lecher and probably a few other things to boot. But he has a few redeeming qualities beneath his insanity. 1) He's a professional. He only got angry a handful of times, when the Maitlands left in the middle of his "interview" and wasting his time. The second being when they hired him and then stopped him. He outright said "Never interrupt a professional at work!" 2. He never actually tells a lie, in fact hes brutally honest and to the point about most things he says and does. Sure he dances around things a lot and is a little underhanded, but the only time he actually lies is at the end when he tries to steal a ticket from the witch doctor. 3) it's up in the air as to whether he killed anyone or not. But I'm willing to bet that he can't outright kill anyone, he can hurt but not kill. 4) he has a good sense of humor. You gotta admit that every word out of his mouth is gold. Michael Keatons charisma shines through him even when he's disgusting. 5) He always honors his word. Every time he has been manifested he has done exactly what was agreed upon and its either Lydia or the Maitlands who weasel out of it. I can't wait until the musical is released on DVD. I like it even better than the original.
