This is great! I was wondering if you give them any suggestions of what they can make....so they're not all making mac n cheese for each other for a whole week LOL! Also, do you give them a time limit in the morning when they do chores? And if they don't finish in time, what consequence do you give them? I'm super curious, b/c I've found it so hard to motivate my kids to do chores (they complain every time) but I know it's an important thing to do. Thanks for all your time in making these awesome videos! :)

First year homeschool mom here 👋🏻 … just started this past Monday! I found your channel abt three weeks ago when we decided to pull our boys out and mannnnnnn can I say you are amazing! So many videos of yours have helped in many ways! Thank you so much for all your advice and I can’t wait to continue to follow your journey! As for scheduling, I found planning one week a time was going to work best for us since being new and scheduling a yr in advance was extremely overwhelming 🤣 . Three weeks into homeschooling for the first time and I am loving the flexible schedule. My son got sick last week and it turned out to be appendicitis. We had to take a break from homeschooling to heal and we are slowly getting back into school now. I also appreciate that I don’t have to send him back to school while he is still in the healing process.

My kids started making their own breakfast this year also. Now my wheels are turning for an expansion on their chores and lunch! They usually make their own lunch but I think it would be fun if they had a day that they make it for their siblings. My kids always want to help with supper, but honestly I enjoy a little bit of “me time” while making supper 🤣

4th year homeschool mom. My kids are still little, so instead of a binder I have a folder for every day we school. We do a 4 day homeschool week. For each folder, I put their lessons they have for the day; any workbook pages, worksheets, etc..I have a laminated schedule for each kiddo. They can cross out the subject they complete so they can see what they’ve done and how much more they need to do. I also have a folder for each kiddo for their morning basket/group subject. They seem to like it and right now it works for them.

I switched to a Plum Paper Planner this year, and love it! It is very similar to EC, but even more customizable. You can choose not only the layout, but add all sorts of different pages either in a tabbed section or spread throughout the months. They have things like fitness, meal planning, blank pages, note pages, etc. They even have a homeschool add on. I’d say EC probably has a few more “cute” cover choices, but Plum Paper does have a lot to choose from and I’ve found some I really like. It’s definitely worth a look!

Love it! This is the first year we have to submit our declaration of intent to homeschool (in WA state you don't have to do so until they are 8 years old), and you've inspired me to follow the quarter system too. It seems so much more manageable and way less overwhelming than trying to plan out the whole year lol! Up until now our homeschooling journey has been very informal but the planner in me is excited for the change lol! I love that the kids have a day to make lunches and how you emphasize the importance of learning life skills. Curious how you teach them about money management and the work-money connection? We use a clipboard and commission system for our kids. Clipboard chores are the ones they're responsible for every day just because they are a member of our family. As they get older I definitely want to model your system of a new chore each day. Then they have commission chores that they can choose to do once their clipboard chores are done. If they do the work, they earn the money and if they don't, then they don't get paid on payday (Sunday). It has been a great way to teach the work-money connection and then the value of saving as well :) Also that if they want to buy something, they need to save up for it because debt isn't an option :)

I also have an Erin Condren planner and I got a survey recently from them. One of the questions asked about their different collaborations etc. One of the questions asked how they made you feel about the company and why. It seems like they want to hear feedback about these things. I don’t think in the end it will matter because I think enough people want to see these various virtue signaling products, but I answered honestly.

I have such a problem with doing everything because I love to keep a super clean and tidy home and I work really hard with 5 kids, the oldest being 6- that I would get frustrated asking them to help me that I would end up doing it anyway. I’ve been learning to loosen up and not prioritize the home over the kids because I turn around and it’s messy in 5 minutes anyway and they could’ve been using that to learn and get better. And I’m thankful to be blessed with kids who actually enjoy helping instead of complaining about chores. I’m definitely still learning!

Such a great idea and incorporates so much- serving one another, kitchen/cleaning skills, how to prepare a meal, make the meal, serve it, all of it! So awesome. Will you plan the lunches for the week? Or do they get to choose what’s on the menu?! Will each child decide when you make your grocery list? Are they involved in the planning/shopping?!?

I think I need to pull back my scheduling a little bit and allow the breaks to come as needed. I have had some extra military trainings come up that fall right in the middle of the school year and I have to take time off to take my kids out of state to family in order for my husband to be able to keep working while I’m away and then more time to pick them up afterwards. It all equals out to almost 3 weeks off, each time. It worries me that I will be schooling farther into summer than I want

Hoping to get your thoughts and input on something I've been tossing about. My son will be in Pre-K this fall. And I'm also due with his youngest sister in October (#3). Wondering if I should bother starting school either end of August or sometime in Sept or just focus on prepping for baby and start after she's born and we've recovered a bit 😂😅 I will say that both of my babies came 2-3 weeks early so I'm expecting the same with this one. Thanks so much for all you do for us homeschool mamas! You are such an amazing resource ❤️

One possible option is to do the 4 day week for just one month a year, its not hard, especially if you are on a sabbath schedule. That's what we do. You can pick the month you need, or to suit your needs, it can be a tradition. It only equals a 1 week or 5 day break from school, but it feels huge, especially if you usually have a hectic friday. I used to be a youth director, i know about busy fridays. You could choose Monday, or Wednesday, whatever works for you. The beauty of homeschool is being able to make the schedule work.

Thanks for sharing this, I found it so helpful! Do you have any advice as far as chores go? I’m new at implementing them and my 5 kids range from 3 months to 11. We do daily things like make beds and clean rooms but I hate to say I’ve never implemented chores like this but I want to. Would you just start with one for each child? I know they will fight me on this and it will be stressful at first. I just don’t know how to go about starting a new system.

This was so helpful!! I always need ideas for delegating different tasks around the house so I don’t end up doing it all and feeling overwhelmed. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and experience with all of us 💕

I love that you're having your kids make lunch and serve it to their siblings and clean up after them, that's such an act of service and we are called to be servants as Jesus was.

Do you have any words of wisdom for the mamas who have life changing events happen in the middle of their school year? Baby due in November and we took almost the whole summer off already, and not exactly sure how to handle the time when baby will be here. My oldest is middle school age, so I'm more hesitant to take a break like I normally would with elementary aged kids. (we're starting our 6th year of homeschooling.)

I would give myself the time I needed off because a new baby is tough. I would go down to bare bones (reading, math, and writing) for your kids after that. You’re oldest could definitely get the necessities done while you rest and recover. I personally had c sections so I would, take 4 weeks off. Then do bare bones for about the next 4 and then evaluate where I’m at mentally and physically to see if I could get back to it more so at that point.

This was super helpful. Thank you for sharing. Do any of your kids struggle with schedule changes between school years? My oldest is 9 and she has really struggled each year as I've had to change up our school routine and add in more/different subjects. Her struggle comes out as attitude, whining, and just being rude and disrespectful to me and to her younger sister. None of that is tolerated in our home, so we end up having such long, drawn out school days because I'm having to address all of that constantly. I guess I'm just wondering if you have had this issue and if you have any advice.

My 8 year old was like this when we first began. We started an award system for good days. I give a verbal warning "ooh this looks like we need to turn around the attitude if we want to earn a magnet for today..." a magnet for 5 days in a row earns treasure box. It might not work forever of course but being 8 this appeals to her. I felt silly at first like I'm bribing her but honestly life is full of incentives for adults :)
