I was exposed too mature movies at a very young age and it was detrimental to my thinking and kind of makes me sick today thinking about it. As a result I am very careful what my children are exposed to as well. Thank you for such a great message and breaking the wordly mold. Praise the Lord God Almighty!

Thank you Ashlee for sharing. So many of us Christians are afraid to share our high standards with others because we don't want them to think we're being "holier than thou." But to that my daughter just said, "The whole point IS for us to be set apart." That's what Jesus calls us to do, to be very different from the world. 👍

Most of your reasons for homeschooling are also mine. I have a first grader and an almost 3 year old. I am a new Christian my husband isn’t there yet but he is open to learning more. My friends and family think I’m crazy to be so protective over my children and your videos give me so much encouragement. Thank you for making this video and all your others! I had to grow up way to fast and I don’t want my kids to.

When I was a kid my parents did all they could to protect my innocence and I used to think they were silly and overprotective... Now that I'm a mom to 4 kids( that I also homeschool) I understand more than anything... I definitely get made fun of for trying to homeschool my children and for my reasons why but I wouldn't have it any other way and I'm proud of my family and don't want to be like everyone else!

Ashlee, you are truly one of my favorite (if not my favorite) KZbinr. The way you carry yourself and follow the Lord without compromise is so inspiring to me- a young homeschooling mama. You are truly an example of “what the enemy meant for evil, God will use for good!” You are a true lineage-changer and pioneer for Jesus! I am the same way in my family line! Do you have a video or have any advice about addressing things with the grandparents (like you mentioned) when they say something that you don’t allow in your family or your home? How do you set boundaries with them?

This was very encouraging to me because we’ve done all of these things with our kids as well and people tell us over and over again how nice, kind, and caring our kids are. My kids are innocent but very wise and mature at the same time. It can be a lonely place sometimes because most parents do not have the same standards that we have in our family but it is so very worth it. One thing that we did that might help those with littles right now is to have the rule that we “don’t comment on other people’s bodies”. This helped to discourage those embarrassing toddler outbursts of saying stuff to strangers but also as they’ve gotten older to not use words about our bodies as weapons. Even though the rule is about other people’s bodies, we’ve included our own bodies as well. My kids don’t hear me talk about my body in a negative way either. You can comment on someone’s character or what you like/dislike about someone but we don’t talk about other people’s bodies😊

Thank you so much for doing this video! We have many of the same beliefs. I've been questioned and accused of sheltering my children. It's weighed so heavy on my heart. We've had to separate ourselves from some of my husbands family as they don't have the same beliefs and I want to protect my kids from the toxicity.

I'd love to know what your rules, guidelines, what you allow/don't allow, time limits etc. specifically related to her cell phone. We have held off on cell phones, but it is approaching with our oldest son who is 13. Also if there are any security/monitoring type programs you use in your house for internet. Thank you♥️

I loved this so much and wish more people took protecting childhood innocence into teen years this serious. My daughter is very bright and creative at 12 and still plays with toys and makes “movies” with her iPad . We have homeschooled her whole life and I’m just so grateful for that opportunity. Thank you for all these reminders to watch what we say about age and to model modesty in all things for our children 🙏👏🏻🤗

You really are such a brave soul, Ashlee! You talk about the hard stuff, the stuff that truly matters in life, and you do so boldly and unapologetically rooted in Christ. Your wise words of wisdom, spoken eloquently and from the heart, have a way of connecting with anyone raising children in these scary times that we are living in today! Your thoughts behind the way you choose to raise your children are 100% aligned to my thoughts as well, and many other parents I am sure. Thank you for reminding the world of what wholesome parenting should look like, in my opinion! I really think your channel is going to evolve into a powerful ministry! The way God speaks through you is so relatable and is often a very powerful motivator/reminder to us mommas/parents to keep fighting for our Christian values and aiming to protect the innocence of our children as we raise them up to follow God. Praying doors will continue to be opened for you as you boldly step out in faith as a teacher of women and mothers! Blessings to you always!

Thank you for being brave and sharing this info! I pray over my 1 year old son almost every night that God would preserve his childlike innocence and mark him for purity even into his adult years. I feel like the things you talked about are such confirmation that I’m going in the right direction with homeschooling in the future. I loved everything you shared and will be taking your advice and adding it to my plans for how to be parent intentionally. You have a beautiful heart and family. God bless.

Wish I could double like! This was so so good... Especially the point about kids living up to what others say about them, I feel that's particularly easy to fall into with the generalization that teenagers are "moody", fight with their parents, spend all their time in their rooms etc. So good to see this view challenged.

I feel less alone. My kids are 7, 4, and 2 and we parent similarly. I've gotten odd looks and remarks for not letting my kids watch, listen, or have certain things. It's definitely a discernment and personal choice but I wish more Christian families would filter what they allow for their children. You guys are doing great. Thanks for this encouragement. I hope I can see some of the fruit you are when mine are older.

This is a fantastic video! I love how honest you are with sharing your convictions without worrying about what ppl think. I truly believe that some don’t know how to go about parenting in this way and it is beneficial to share these pearls of wisdom . Reminds me of the Bible verse about mother’s/women who have experience / have gone on ahead sharing their wisdom with mothers who either A) are young and can use this info or B) don’t know how to implement these things because they’re new to the info/way of living. We neeeeeed to share wisdom ! This world is a crazy place and in order to keep our kids safe we must be intentional. We do follow literally almost everything you’ve mentioned here and I pray the seeds we have planted in our kids hearts come to godly fruition. Thanks for the encouragement boost! Let’s keep on keeping on! ❤️❤️

Hey I wanted to encourage you, and say you are doing such a great job with your kids. My parents also did this with me and my siblings, and I believe that my childhood was also preserved. And as a married woman now with three young kids of her own I am so glad that my parents did that even though they got the same questions to about not letting us grow up but it's not letting us have any freedom being teenagers. I'm so grateful that they did because I was able to experience things in my own time and experience things with my husband that most people don't get to experience in their own time.

What a wonderful video ! Thanks for sharing, and it feels good to know that there are other parents that do this. For example im constantly shutting down conversations and things by my parents and siblings. Or even friends! Im soooo protective of what people say to my kids. And especially the media they consume. Just a few days ago i was feeding my kids at a family owned restaurant, and there was a huge screen in the waiting area, i kept telling the teenagers manning the register to change the music videos on the screen because they are wildly inappropriate. And it was so cute because this teenagers or young college kids said “good parenting “ they actually appreciated it !

You're doing a great job, and it shows in your sweet kids. We parent similar to you, and it has turned out wonderful so far. Seven of ours are teens to 30yr. It's such a blessing to see the fruit of the hard work, and I can truly say I love being around each my kids. I think all of the stuff you said is great, but peer influence is probably the number one thing that has the potential to be dangerous if not guarded against. We teach our kids to be friendly to everyone, but to only keep close friends with those who help them grow closer to God. The kids have to "want" this for themselves. Keeping lines of communication open and mom and dad modeling it themselves is the best thing, which it seems like you're doing!🥰

Thank you so much for making these videos, you really motivate me and I have learned a lot from all of them. It is so sad that at 7 already I had to put out fires on sexuality and the bees and the birds subject. It is sad that the first place she heard these things is church, on sabbath and not in school where I expected it. Anyway, same day I had to explain it to her. Another problem is that in South Africa where gender based violence is on the extreme of highs we honestly have no choice. From as young as 3 years old you have to explain to them that no one, not even their father is allowed to touch their private parts and should an adult look at them, touch them and say something that makes them uncomfortable they should report them even if it's their father, uncle, brother and even if they threaten to kill them. It is so serious that my 11 yrs old daughter does not go to the shops alone. We had incidents where older men stop the car and stare at her, the other times they were calling after her (these a few times) and while she is with her 16 yr old cousin yet they are staring at her. Human trafficking is also rife. I know these things happen all over the world but in South Africa, you will be shook because it's not some random girl from another province, things are happening to people we grew up with or people we know etc, it is scary! So unfortunately discussions started early and continue. Some things are even added to their life orientation subject in school because someone needs to talk about it. I chose to homeschool for many many reasons however such things are at the core of that decision.

A store cashier once asked my then four year old son if he had a girlfriend and without hesitation, he said, “yep! Elsie (his sister) is my girlfriend!” Made my heart happy! I the mom of two, almost three boys and it is reassuring to know that there are other mama's raising their girls like this. As a boy mom, you can often question if its even worth it to put these things in place for your boys. Will there be girls that appreciate it, that understand the value of limitations and rules. We are raising our kids much like you and so, from one mama to another, keep up the GOOD work.

I have such a hard time knowing how to even find acceptable music and shows for them to listen to/watch. How do you do it? I have identical twin daughters who are 17 and very unique. They were born two months early and have a speech disorder, apraxia. They've been in speech therapy since they were 2 1/2. When we are at home, they are wild and crazy sweet things. They love to play their little games. But when they are around people who are not me or my husband, they are extremely reserved and quiet. They lack confidence in themselves. They are perfectionists and very meticulous with their school work. They raise caterpillars into moths and butterflies. That's their passion. We do not know what the future will hold for them because of their reserved and dependent personality in public. I worry that they are not "normal," but look how they have retained their innocence. I would never want to change that. They are always sweet, never angry and they never try to see what they can get away with. That sort of thing is not even on their radar at all. They are our blessings, and we will let them be themselves. And perhaps with time, they will show more independence.

Showing/teaching children God's way first before telling them about how the world has distorted it all is very wise. I heard once that Secret Service train their agents how to spot counterfeit money by focusing on all the details of genuine money. There can be a thousand different versions of counterfeit money but if they know what the real one should look like, it's easy to spot when something isn't. Our daughter is starting to say, "We don't say that," "That's not right," or "God doesn't like that." Children really absorb what we pour into their hearts and minds; they can develop strong convictions even at a young age.

Love chatty videos! I have 11 & 8 yo girls plus a baby so I love that you're a few steps ahead of us in age-wise so it's nice to hear your experiences before we even get there. Do your kids go to a youth group at your church? That's what concerns me most--mostly lost teens there--not many saved so there's not many good influences. Thankfully my husband & I are the teen leaders but we may not be forever. No cell phone here yet for my kids--they don't really go anywhere yet without us. Yes BE YOURSELF! So true! If you are 12 and like chess or crocheting--go for it! Yes-the boyfriend thing---why when kids are like 5? I always tell my kids when they go to church kids group that those kids are way too young to be "dating". We say "where are they going on dates? with their parents?" I wholeheartedly agree with introducing God's way first. We started TGTB maturation unit this semester for my 11 YO. No secrets and no computers in the bedroom! I was taught that when I was in youth group as a teen and I still remember it today. Doing a good job mama!

One other thing that rushes childhood is academics being pushed on kids before they are ready of want to. Kids at a young age are stressed out because they aren’t taking the right classes or worried at a young age about getting into a good college etc. Even with sports if a kid shows talent they are forced to get on the right team to be seen by scouts instead of just having fun.

I love this wisdom thank you for sharing! My kids are small but it’s good to be prepared for this. The book “Let them be little” by Jessica Smartt covers a lot of the same things and is super helpful!

Hi I was there a book that you recommended that was about girls and caring for themselves or caring for your body? I can’t remember if I saw that one way back on your amazon list? You are a wonderful mom!

How do you handle people in the family who aren’t believers? I know you talked about this briefly. None of my or my husband’s parents are believers and they are all very liberal. How do we handle our kids spending time with them, without letting them have influence over them? For example, they like the kids to stay over at their house from time to time, but we don’t like the idea of them being alone with them without us.

Hi, very interesting video, thanks a lot for sharing your views :) I just wanted to mention that I don’t believe in God but agree with pretty much everything you mentioned. I hope that if we lived in the same area you would let your kids play with mine even though we are not religious because many of us have the same hopes that you have for your kids :) I have taught my daughter about our absence of belief and how to respect other people’s belief because their friends have different religions

Oh of course, we are first generation Christians so all of our family believes differently than us and we are still family and spend time together❤️

It is so clear through your videos that you are doing a great job with all your kids to everyone. That is just mom worry. (Which also proves you are a good mom. Bad mom's don't worry if they are doing a good job.)

I wish more couples understood how important it is not to watch movies with nudity/profanity even as adults! My husband and I set this boundary as well and we are always baffled at how many other couples watch things/listen to things like this. Why would I want to watch a movie that would tempt my husband or I into sinful thoughts?

We parent the same way! If I could love this video a million times I would. Finding friends with the same convictions with their children is difficult and we live in the south! I don’t know if you’ve ever said what city you live in (I won’t say it in case you haven’t) but I’m pretty sure y’all live where I grew up (judging by a few of your videos that showed your neighborhood and the way you speak haha), it was the same for me girl. I had to grow up way to fast as well and my son having a childhood and becoming who he wants to be without the negative peer influence is so important and a big reason for us homeschooling as well. Also, I find it just a weird and creepy how parents influence their kids to have boyfriends/girlfriends at such young ages. 🤯 It’s pushed here as well and I find it so strange and gross as well.

I agree 100% with you. I have a 16 year old son and a 12 year old daughter and our family is seen as the odd, sheltered family. We're ok with not being like most people🤗 You're doing an amazing job with your family.

Thank you for this video. I am so glad that Covid-19 forced us to homeschool my youngest. I have seen so much growth in her heart, and character this past year. I love everything you said about protecting your children's childhood. Public school has become the robber of our children innocence. It wants to force our children's hearts to turn away from everything that is holy and Christ given. I hope and pray that with the closure of school's that parents eyes will be opened, and a revival will sweep through our nation.

First off, you’re an amazing mom with so much Godly wisdom. I can see that you truly follow Gods word and truth and it’s sooooo nice to see that in today’s world. Your kids are so blessed to have you and your husband as parents! Second, because of your bravery to share these hard topics, through you God has convicted me of a few things you mentioned that I have been doing and I didn’t even realize it. My son is only 7 and a few times I’ve mentioned the whole crush thing regarding a girl because that’s how I grew up. Thank you I see how that’s not a good thing to start. THANK YOU!! You are the true definition of a woman truly following Gods word and truth. I’m so thankful I watched this video today.

Yes girl, I agree with so much!! My eldest (18) is always told her standards are too high. Well sorry y'all, her standards are set by the MOST High. Raising Godly men and women is our number one priority as followers of Jesus Christ, and exposing our kids to sinful behavior is just not biblical no matter what the modern worldview is. Good job momma. 👏

As a former teacher and homeschooling mama, I never believed the social messaging about teenagers and the hype about their behavior. We raised our daughter with care and knowing the Lord, taught her the principles of life from scriptures, and respected and cherished her. I literally cannot remember one incidence of eye rolling, backtalking, or disrespect from her as an adolescent. We were happy and had a lot of fun as a family. Today she’s happily married and homeschooling her two, able to withstand ungodly pressure and we are best friends. I couldn’t be more thankful to the Lord for the privilege of raising her. When I was a teacher, so much teen misbehavior was excused on the basis of “hormones” and “that’s just being a teenager”. No. It is about expectations and nurture. The cult of teen tv, movies, early sexualization, spoiling, entitlement, indulgence-all that is the true culprit. Adolescence is a normal part of life that can be calm, kind, rational, yes sensitive, deeply feeling and imaginative. It is to be honored like any other phase of life, all of which were lived and sanctified by our Lord Jesus Christ.
