+George Vreeland Hill It really was a good movie, just too freaking bad they only gave the info they wanted everyone to believe.. I don't believe he is still alive today, date of Apr 25? 2016, don't have a calendar in front to me.. But I'm sure that body that was in the coffin, was a wax museum piece.. He was too young looking for an older more ill Elvis.. and I've worked in hospitals for almost 30 yrs, and even my own mother who died at age 37, when i was only 16, she weighed only 79 lbs at the time of her death, but at her funeral, she was so bloated from the autopsy fluids and the preservatives from 1968, you can't imagine how bloated his body would have been.. Especially how bloated he was at his last concerts, and I have one of the last concerts, up very close and personal, one my aunt took it, he was standing at her table. There is NO FREAKING WAY, IT WAS HIS BODY IN THAT COFFIN ON AUG 18TH, before his funeral.. As sick and bloated he was while alive, just before his death, he would've been almost double the size, after he died! I've always wished he was not really gone, but as sick as he was then, and with all the yr's that have passed, he could really be gone by now.. But not that guy they found under a fwy pass, some say in San Diego, Ca., and some say in Phoenix, Az. I do not believe that was his body, just someone needing to bring up attention to themselves, using him to get that attention. I would hope had many years to enjoy without crazy people, like myself, who chased after him, and many ripped his clothes off, and a lot of people were so crazy, they actually ripped his hair out by the roots.. If you haven't seen him in concert up close, he has bandaids on, holding his valuable rings on so people couldn't rip them off his hands when he knelt down to kiss them, or hand out his scarves.. I've always believed, THERE IS NO CRAZIER PERSON, THAN AN ELVIS FAN!! Too bad, or sorry, Elvis, if I ever bothered you.. it was not my intention, I was just so in love with you. I just couldn't get enough of your AWESOME voice, personality, and your BEAUTIFUL SELF!! If my husband was right, you should remember me from 'Nov '74, after your concert in Long Beach, Ca. we were in a blue VW bug, and I was hanging out the window, at the first red light, and you rolled down your window, and took your glasses off, and smiled at me, and my husband flipped a u-turn, and I have never forgiven his since.. He did tell me that you would remember me as the only person who didn't follow you and annoy you, to the point, you would have to fake your own death, just to escape people worse than myself! That's no meant to be funny.... If you are still here, as many believe, I do hope you are in good health and enjoying your life, and maybe someday, you will know just how much you were truly loved, and missed... MOSTLY BY ME!!!! LOL

This was made in 1980 or 81 before Graceland opened to the public and before EPE had made the decision to keep the upstairs off limits out of respect for Elvis. I don't see anything wrong with them wanting to make the reenactment as authentic as possible. I think this is one of the best documentaries ever made about Elvis.

He certainly had that thing a lot of entertainers did not nor would ever have, he created a world of mystery and an attraction the public was drawn to. Almost God like, women would start crying as soon as he walked out on the stage and men envied him because they were never going to be like him, when he started throwing out his scarves it was a stampede unlike anyone had ever seen people got hurt and he had to stop that part of his program, he was generous and gave a lot of expensive things away, he was a good guy, men have tried to copy him but let's face it GOD gave one Elvis and one only.

What I've never understood about this scene is, they walk in the front door so the stairs are right in front of them, yet they take a left towards the kitchen then take the door below the stairs to circle back to the stairs again!

I Love that we keep it Private - That's the Only Place in The Whole Wide World Elvis could Totally Be Himself & NOT have to be the Spectacle, Crowd-Pleaser, or Personified Image that Everyone Demanded of him (intentionally or non-intentionally). He was Human too, but could not have the Luxury of ever Shopping in Stores or Even Seeing the Fronts of the Buildings, Hotels, etc he Performed at because of Mass-Hysteria he ALWAYS had to be rushed through the Back Entrances in the Alleys etc. I think this is a Sacred Place for a Blessed Man who Gave MORE than Enough of Himself to US - The Fans! And we Respect his one Piece of Privacy - His Quarters... ;) ~Priscilla

+j flo I had a new toyota, and past the Hilton in Las Vegas, June of 77 on my way to Ks to pick up my oldest daughter who was visiting her bio dad, I wanted so desperately to stop on the way to and fro, but didn't take enough cash, and back then, I had never been on a long drive alone, and NEVER been to Vegas before.. I also had a 13yr old bro-in -law, and 6mo baby with me.. so it would've been impossible to stop.. I had no idea I was going to go thru L.V.. His name was so big in lights, and I never thought about him dying the next month.. I never even knew that LV was only a couple hr's from where I lived and had grown up.. But at least I did see him close up in 74, a couple of yr's earlier.. guess it's true, Can't always get what you want... Mick Jaggar..

Having been there with my kids its kind of surreal to see at least this imitation of Elvis and to add that with what we saw in how he may have lived in the house. Very odd but cool. Dunno how to describe it. ITs like putting two pieces of a puzzle together but you still dont have the whole picture.

Possibly as close to the actual events of that day as we'll get. Joe Esposito, who bounded up the stairs on 8/16/77 as he did in this clip, is gone now as are many of the people around Elvis at the time. Before the internet, TMZ and 24/7 cable news this struck the country as a bombshell. Many never even knew he was in poor health and addicted to numerous pills. The tv special "Elvis In Concert", aired in October of 1977, shocked many with the reality of Elvis' appearance before his death.

Parker drained him of millions and used him as a cash cow. Priscilla and Lisa Marie are making big bucks off Graceland, his memory and things ! They both ruined that marriage by cheating on each other, sadly ! This was a weird movie enactment of his death. Totally disrespectful ! I think some of the Memphis mafia used him as well for a cash cow and writing books about him after his death. Maybe they ment well but greed took over. After all these years I miss him and his music. No one has or will have the voice and stage presence he had !!! RIP Elvis.

Two things: 1) the carpet in the dining room and stairs look like they were originally reddish in color. They are now white for the tour. 2) That was a seamless camera transition going up the staircase and into the second floor which leads me to believe that it is the actual second floor shown in the movie.

They probably block the upstairs because they don't want people to go up there where he died . People are curious and some people would want to see the place he died but they don't want to encourage it. I totally understand that they don't want people going there and be constantly asked is this where he died?

+dennydeckerful true!!!! many people forget about them... In Feb 88, I took my oldest daughter back to Al, on the train, and we went with one of my cousins, in her car to Graceland and Tupelo.. In the gift shop in Tupelo, the woman at the cash register was one of his cousins... I kept in touch with her for many yr's.. I would call her to see what she had to sell, and she sold them to me thru the mail, and these were things that were not mass produced at the time.. I realized after she stopped responding me my calls, and they changed the number, I was one of the lucky ones who got to meet someone person to person. just wish my cousin had taken a pic of us.. was so excited about being there, I didn't even think of it myself.. the gift shop was a tiny room behind his little house.. There was mostly records that she sold, but she had some personal items, I could've never afforded to buy any of those items..

Laura, you don't really think they would let people go inside his private quarters.. It should be enough that his ex and his daughter, welcomes strangers inside his home.. I know they make a LOT OF MONEY, but I'm sure he would want it that way.. In fact, in 1970, just goofing around after listening to his music all day, as usual, I got a bright idea and called 411 and asked for his phone #.. To my surprise, it was listed and I didn't even bribe the operator. My best friend was over so we called and his cousin answered and he talked to us over an hr. He said Elvis was out and couldn't be reached, they didn't have cells back then.. But later it was reported that he had gone to visit Pres Nixon.. My younger sister was an airline stewardess and called me that night, he was on her plane.. She and I didn't get along, so she only called to bug me, and refused to get his autograph for me, BRAT!!! But, he was so generous and I LOVED HIM since I was only 3yrs old... If you died, would you want people in your private places? I know I would NOT!!! Just be THANKFUL we lived in the same time era as him, and keep loving him, as EVERYONE ELSE DOES.... BUT NOT AS MUCH AS ME....

Hi John, I am so sorry that I've never known about this page until today.. left that comment last yr, from my new cell, didn't know it was hooked up to my computer until about a month ago.. Not very mechanical, lol, and just saw it tonight while looking around on my pc to see why I have more than one acct under my name.. But, you've never heard how he disappeared? Tom Parker was going to have a stroke, and so was Vernon.. The "boys" were in so much trouble.. Elvis was about to come out then, but he just took an "alone, quiet-time" trip, so he could just get away and clear his head.. He had been either jealous or he really did want Nixon to believe that all the NEW KIND OF ROCK, HARD ROCK, was about to take over America's streets, and drugs would be everywhere, so since he collected badges, he truly wanted to have NIxon make him an "Honorary" CIA agent, for the US Drug Enforcement, which Nixon was more than happy to do.. I have photos taken with Elvis and Priscilla in that long black car, with Elvis driving it, they were taking early '70's and were taken with a Polaroid camera and have dimmed in quality, and I've been unable to find anyone who knows how to restore such old faded pix from way back then.. Weird, it doesn't really seen that long ago. But Elvis did ditch them, and that's why everyone was so freaking flipped out when he was missing, and they had NO CONTROL over him during those "supposedly 12hrs". Yes John, our amazing love of this man, keeps getting more interesting as we go day to day, and learn everything we can, that honest people are willing to tell about what they really know about him, not made up crap, that they want us to know! He was going lower on the record charts with the British Invasion, which I didn't start to listen to that type of music, until my husband came home from Viet Nam, and played his Army music on his reel to reel.. He had all the glow in the dark posters in his room, and we were only room=mates at that time, but no one like my Elvis music anymore, and I was out numbered, but it never stopped me from listening to Elvis when I was alone, HE ROCKED MY WORLD, AND HE HAS SINCE I WAS ABOUT 3 YRS OLD, AND NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE.... It did open me up to new music tho, but no one will ever take his place in my heart, or my home... All we have left of that hard rock period, are some albums, and the pile of them are less than a foot tall, Elvis LP's and 45's stack over 6 ft tall, thats not counting all my wall to wall, room to room, posters, and other things I've collected through out my life.. I wish I still belonged to the fan club.. I don't even know if they still exist. We moved so far from anyone I know personally, for his job, and I've never met anyone, especially, that I'm that comfortable around, since the early '90's.. and I know many of them are no longer around, just as my days are getting older every morning, when I wake up, it's either a blessing or a cure, depending on how my body aches.. but only Elvis music, can ease my pain.. Gee, wish I had known about this site before, I only finally had my phone at the same time I was by my pc, and it gave me some instructions to go on here, and fix my password. I've wondered for more than a yr, why I kept getting msg's to reset my password.. I didn't know my phone had to have one,, haha, my kids were using my pc when I was out of town last yr, now all the txt's I got during that month makes sense.. Now I just have to learn how to block all of them from taking advantage of my nice self.. God Bless you John,,, are you about my age? I was born in 51? Just trying to keep track of how many original fans he had... That's also a good way to know who know the truth from lies made up by people who didn't really like Elvis... a way to look at it anyway..

Beautiful video. Even though I know this is not the real graceland upstairs rooms but they got Jos Esposito to act in this clip and gave it some authenticity. As a die-hard Elvis fan, I truly believe we deserve to see real detailed pictures (at the least) of the upstairs rooms and the bathroom. The wishes of so many millions of fans can't be quashed by Priscilla and Lisa Marie by locking the upstairs rooms. We are only asking for pictures and hopefully a short video. I've been to graceland and it's a great place to visit but really the shortcoming remains with the fact that the upstairs which is probably the most important place for all fans remains so hidden. Millions of fans will have to die and leave this world without ever getting their greatest wish fulfilled.

This is his room. Just email Joe via his website or EPE. They both confirmed to me they filmed in his room. Linda Thompson's brother took photos of the upstairs at Graceland. 5 minutes on google or youtube will find them.

The structural integrity of the mansion was the reason offered why the tours didn't include the upstairs rooms to my tour group when we visited Graceland in 1987. Years later the other reason I learned through the media was the tour included all the parts of the mansion Elvis himself would invite his guests to see. I was hoping the party posting this excerpt from the movie, "This Is Elvis" would have included the footage of the ambulance arriving at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Those familiar with the book, "Elvis: The Final Years" by author Jerry Hopkins, will remember the description of the chaotic scene outside the entrance/exit of the Emergency parking area of Baptist Memorial Hospital on August 16th, 1977. Jerry explained in his book some journalists who were listening to the emergency calls on their citizen band radios gathered at the entrance to the emergency room doors anticipating the ambulance doors to swing open and see none other than Mr. Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, being wheeled in to the emergency room. Most fans who have followed Elvis's story over the years have learned about Mr. Presley's failing health from 1975 onward. The point I wish to make about the film clip is, the reporters waiting at the emergency entrance were holding video cameras too and when the doors to the ambulance opened they must have been shocked to see, not Vernon, but, Elvis Presley on the stretcher. The film's producers or the Presley Family have never discussed this particular film footage, but, I think it is fascinating (and sad too) considering how Elvis' personal health and privacy as such were well guarded for many, many years then to be filmed, of all the days of his life, on the actual final day an hour or so before his death is announced. My wish is not to present a morbid opinion here, but, to call your attention to this piece of footage the next time you screen the movie. The footage is grainy, although in colour, and very amateur. Remember the person filming would have been placed "off guard" and very surprised as anyone. The one other clue this footage is not "staged" with Johnny O'Hara playing Elvis, is the emergency room attendant expresses a short expletive under his breath, my guess, when he recognizes who is being admitted to emergency. My educated guess would be the hospital staff were very familiar with Elvis' appearance during his private hours considering the number of visits to Baptist Memorial Hospital during his lifetime. Thanks for reading my long tome here. Please reply and let us know your thoughts about this footage. Peace, Love & Best to all in 2016.

This is a half truth reenactment. All the reports say his girlfriend finds him laying in the bathroom floor, she calls downstairs a maid answers and then hands it over to Joe Esposito who runs up stairs to Elvis who had already passed and rigimortis had set it.

This is obviously a reenactment of Elvis' last hours before he passed, and not filmed upstairs in Elvis' private domain. I don't believe that Priscilla and Lisa Marie would ever agree for this filming to take place in Elvis' actual sanctuary, upstairs! This was definitely recreated to appear to be Elvis' upstairs private rooms. God bless Elvis and the Presleys.

Catalina Brede This actually was filmed at Graceland upstairs in Elvis' real bedroom. After Priscilla approved the crew to film there for this movie, she later decided to keep the upstairs private and actually wanted this film took off the shelves.

Were the interior scenes actually filmed inside Graceland or in "The Second Graceland" (a home identical to Graceland in almost every way, because it was built with the same blueprints as Graceland) owned by that doctor? The outside was defnitely Graceland and not its clone (Graceland has a stone facade, the clone has brick.)

If you knew the curator of Graceland and were taken upstairs by her with a tiny hidden camera, then that footage would be worth a bit of money. But the sad fact is, it wouldn't be very interesting really, lots of storage boxes littered about in all the room's. Now if it were opened to the public, it'd be tidied up and put on display as untouched in 40 year's, with strategically placed personal items like wallets, guns, photos, I'd cards and half written letters placed In his office and bedroom, the bathroom would have the cabinets left open with half empty bottles of aftershave, shampoo, toothpaste.. " all replicas on sale at over the top prices in the complex across the street". Most of which would just be period items acquired elsewhere and placed in cabinets. Period newspapers would also be nicely left around. People would think " this guy never cleaned up after himself or closed a drawer or cabinet" But it's all done for show. Basic ticket is about $100 with prices increasing if you want v.i.p, or v.i.p gold etc etc. I'm sure they could easily charge $100 to go upstairs and not be short of visitors. My guess is, you can't go up there because it creates a mystique, not to honour his memory, they've no problem with people wandering around the rest of his house. Of course people say his family use the upstairs " good publicity stunt" or have xmas in the house " good publicity stunt" Reality is they only visit for photo shoots to drum up trade, people want to be where his ex wife and daughter were last xmas " a connection to him". But it's money. He owned many other houses yet you wont hear mention of it at Graceland, apart from a small model of his childhood home in tupelo. Even growing up he lived in various places

Is it just me or does it look weird that it looks like Elvis and Ginger Alden are looking like they are entering Graceland for the front of the house, and in the next scene it looks like they are in back of the house entering to the front of the house and the stairs are which is the foyer, which where people that tour Graceland is apart of the first room that they see.

johnny hara played Elvis....he was the only one to stay overnight in the bedroom.....while they were making this movie.....even harra and his fan club have talked about it. That he has been the only one to do that. There are a couple reasons why they dont have the visiting public upstairs....to keep it sacred in respect to Elvis.....and IF they did that.....they would be having to replace the carpet every 4 to 6 months easily.....it not a big hallway up there for a ton of people....and those steps would be worn out in 2 months. He truly was a great entertainer.

+cavdragoon Debbie, we don't know for sure, and probably never will. But that's how I would've wanted it to be, had it been me.. His life was so public, hopefully he got the peace he was looking for after his funeral.. Whether he was really dead, or not.. but I do know that was not his body in the coffin on display... NO WAY!!!! TOO YOUNG AND THIN.. He was very ill, but not young or thin on that date, compared to the before concert pix everyone has shared since before that day.. I wonder if we will ever really know the answer in my lifetime? Clock is ticking.....at least for me.. I'm no kid anymore, only in my heart...

For all y'all commenting on the fact that Ginger is wearing red pants when she gets out of the Stutz, then suddenly wearing blue shorts when they walk inside, this is merely evidence of the strange phenomenon that constantly surrounded Elvis. Women often discovered various articles of clothing disappearing the closer they got to E's lair, upstairs. Although off camera, had we been able to see Ginger actually cross the threshold of Elvis' bedroom, you would've noticed she was suddenly completely naked. Also, you were so busy watching the vanishing wardrobe you completely missed the fact that they exit the car and enter the front door, yet once it switches to an interior shot, they're suddenly entering the back door, and walking through the den/jungle room. You might be tempted to reason this away as simply a case(s) of bad-editing, or lack of continuity, but again, you'd be wrong. This sort of "interdimensional bilocation" was common place whenever Elvis was present. Also, it helped to distract from the fact that ladies were, as E would say, "slowly but surely gettin' psychically neked."
