This was an incredible video .. just wonderful. Part was poor Gracie 😢just sad and hurting and desperate for someone/thing to sooth her .. we have all been there. Part was hearing the spontaneous joy and happiness in your voice for the first time in a while. Thanks for posting😊❤

I watched this before I went to work today. It was so good; I'm watching it again as I've just gotten home. Great video! It's really refreshing to see Gracie trying to seek out some snuggle time. At a couple of points, it looks like she's leaning on Luke. I love watching Mr. Wilde with his high and powerful steps! He looks so happy. My Mare is also currently in heat, despite what I've read. Your herd is always lovely to watch!. Thank you for sharing this awesome video! They are always interesting. The horses look like they are thriving. Keep up the great work.

Aaww I just love Mr Wilde nosey close ups to camera!😊 So cute ,fuzzy we all need a friendly Mr Wilde in life lol. So interesting to see such a different side of Gracie! After all the videos we've seen of her it was like a different horse today with Luke all snuggly and trying to be besties with Annie & Mocha. She seemed to move, walk differently too staying so close to the others. Will she stay that way more often I wonder?

It's so fascinating how Gracie seems so chill and friendly when she is in heat - I believe (and I may be wrong) that mares become more forward and aggressive when they are in heat. She was soft in her approach to others, tolerant, and even here facial expressions were calm and serene. Also funny is Annie being all curious about the interesting scents from Gracie. Does Gracie generally behave like this when she is in heat? So interesting - thanks as always, Graeme, for sharing.

Oh sweet, confused, excitable Gracie! What a beautiful moment at 11:20 with Luke, and Lena a comforting, observing, nearby presence. I wonder what they think, or feel? Do her natural urges make her emotionally needy, too? I wonder what type of mom she might be, if she was allowed to have a foal? Would it fix her issues, or make it worse? And what would a Luke/Gracie child look like, if they could? :)

I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it! Gracie being sociable with the other horses. Hormones in over-drive sure made a different horse out of her. The long chitty chats she had with Luke were adorable.

I love to see how you interact with all the horses. One thing it highlights is that you & your horse will communicate with each other much more efficiently if you spend more time together. No brainer but how else will people learn! Genius. Keep the vids coming. 😊

Gracie sure wasn't feeling like herself and Luke provided gentle comfort to her. It was such a special moment and so glad you captured it. Roni made sure Meatball didn't interfere too much. You have such a kind herd, even when they are a little spicy, there is an underlying kindness.

I love watching Mr. Wilde's winter coat bounce a bit as he trots. He's such a good looking horse, even if he was feeling like a Spicy Meatball in this video lol. And I wonder how much of these calm, gentle interactions Gracie will take with her when she's no longer in heat.

I would love to see some side by sides of Gracie's face so you could compared the differences in her stressed face and this one in a million soft face she has today. Many don't realize how different the muscles in the face and especially the look of the eye's are so much different when in different states of emotions. The ears are a clear indicator but the minute facial changes are fascinating.

At the risk of anthropomorphizing: if Gracie is in heat, and if it's a rare occurrence, and given her challenges with processing, I wonder if she's confused by her emotions. I wondered if she decided that Luke would make the best baby daddy! then noticed how low (especially for her) she was hanging her head. Horses being champions of observation, I now have little doubt that she sought out the most empathetic one in the herd. And having said that, Gracie is deliberately matching steps with everyone!!

Water maintenance was a full time job for about 5 days or so here. Once the weather turned and the lowest was going to be just below freezing, I broke out any remaining ice that was left or formed there since the last great breaking and refilled all to start fresh. All good :)

Oh wow. It was a long pause, but then you come back with such a banger. Who is that chestnut mare and what did you do to my Gracie? It looks like she has been kidnapped by the aliens or has suddenly had an epiphany about how to be friendly. And then Annie was like "oh hey, you wanna be friendly? are you into being friendly with mares? coz I am kinda funny" and Gracie is like "I have literally no idea, the whole thing is very new to me". But jokes aside. Seeing her keep asking Luke so patiently has melted my heart. Gracie might have been full grown, but now she has matured. Now I am really itching to know if any of it will stick after her heat is over.

Gracie’s interactions with Luke around 11 minutes in makes me think that Gracie is telling him “I’m having ovulation cramps and it hurrrttss, please give me some comforting!” ❤ and Luke being the sweetie he is, 😊 is helping her out (some of us lucky ladies get ovulation cramps as well as period cramps) (all the men on the thread are “tmi!!! 😅) The other mares in heat were a little more aggressive, but she’s being quite gentle - very unusual. Isn’t it also an unusual time for a mare to be in heat?

Yes, amazing.. Gracie when on heat has never behaved like this before . All horses are so fuzzy, their colors look like copper. Is Joka's hair thicker than the others? Are they not sliding on the ice when running? I wonder if they were shoed, they would.. Even they make a hole to drink from their bucket, at such temperature, it must refreeze instantly, how do you help them drink?
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 11 ай бұрын
I make a hole for them if they don't. Cleaning out the ice when it's too frozen and refilling. They do well with that :) It was excessively cold last week and it was a real chore to keep them all kept up on for sure... Yes, horses can slip no matter what on ice but shoes make it far worse. I think Joka's hair is more coarse, but not necessarily thicker.
@martineinfrance
@martineinfrance 11 ай бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining thank you! Yes I imagine it must be a constant concern to make sure they drink and are well maintained with such temperatures. Although very young with not much experience in their early life, I bet the wildies are more prepared for that.
@erika7674
@erika7674 11 ай бұрын
As regards the almost hyper activity of the wildies, could it have anything to do with the fact that in the winter, in the wild, predators are extra hungry and therefore the horses, and other prey animals, have to stay on their toes! (I'm reading Jack London's White Fang at the moment, which may have influenced my thinking!)

I think humans take all kinds of shortcuts with horses for their own personal best interests and not for the animals. This is another example of that I think, but I'm not there, don't know who you're talking about nor have talked to them directly. So I'm making an assumption on their reasoning, situation, circumstances and the methods and results. In other words, I kinda know absolutely nothing and as such my viewpoint shouldn't be valued :)

@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 4 ай бұрын
I don't think I think about it as much as you do in that way.... horses don't procreate for fun and usually it's a bit harmful to the mare and dependent on the stallion it could be harmful to him too. So I think "relief" is more of a human construct.

I should probably change how I think about that then, care like that is right/wrong, they are beautiful and so I fall for it I guess. Thank you for being kind, but I do wonder what makes them procreate from the horses perspective, I wonder what they see in each other? Why do they groom each other? What makes them do that? And they are emotional. I suppose only God knows but I would like too as well. They are what they are and I'm glad they are here alongside us! I hope to love and take care of some one day. That's my dream anyway. Thanks for sharing!
