When I was first introduced to Grace Jiu-Jitsu it was in a garage similar to this @ Ft Bragg and Royce Gracie showed up and gave the senior students their belt test. This Shows the loyalty to Jiu Jitsu, to practice it wherever it is loved!

I get up in base every opportunity I get. Everyone thinks I have back or knee issues because of it, but I tell them it's the contrary. Getting up in base is a good habit to have and it's easier on the joints than other ways i get up.

Cindy, this is a perfect video of two Gracie garages. I will have one when I move and there is no Gracie Academy in the area. I will attend a regular club until my clientele is big enough. Bobby will be my training partner along with whoever shows up. I like the setup on the first garage more than the second. My family will be able to see their training and Max will have a perfect influence and environment.

@jahensle the point is that they are training and practicing what they learn from gracie combatives. Be it with limited guidance, or an official instructor, they are developing a hands on education and discovering what works for them and what doesnt.

It's probably more like a study group, where you watch the DVDs with a group and, practice the techniques. I have the DVD set and, they break down 36 techniques with various modifications quite well. If you drill those techniques hundreds of times with a resisting partner, you'll be able to protect yourself.

That's cool as hell to get surprised with a legendary fighter coming to ur house outta appreciation for practicing their sport. How often u see mike tyson show up for u being a boxer or steven segal show up for u studying aikido? i wish i had a garage to open up, even if i didn't practice in there for some reason, i'd let it be a free spot for bjj around the neighborhood for practicing

im thinking about maybe starting a gracie garage i do have one question do you absolutely have to do the online blue belt test or can you just apply for gracie garage status buy the combatives dvd's and just practice them ? because i dont believe in online belts i do however believe in getting some guys together and practicing techniques
@kd5ptm9 жыл бұрын
+Dominik Doherty I am a member of a Gracie Garage, so maybe I can help you out. The answer is no, you do NOT have to do your Blue Belt (BB) test online. In fact, it is encouraged for you to find a training center and take your BB test there. All Gracie CTCs (Certified Training Centers) use the same curriculum that Gracie University does, and can test you in person. Also, even if you don't test for blue, you can still practice the Master Cycle curriculum as a White Belt. I hope that helps, good luck!!

@billysue2 Aren't you embarrassed that most schools (maybe yours) hand out a blue belt for being able to defend against nothing but Jiu-jitsu while being mostly clueless about defending against striking etc. Have you seen ALL the Combatives techniques and how they are taught and practiced? It's just a blue belt dude! It's like Rorion told me when I didn't feel ready, getting mine from his father in 1997 "You don't have to be the best blue belt in the world right away, you know."

there are bad teachers in every area.Its always better to spar with lots of different body sizes as you need to adjust strategy to match them.However i recently got my brown belt without ever having a teacher,just 15 yrs of wrestling and grappling with a bunch of judoka and wrestlers that were into bjj but no scholls nearby.I find ive a better understanding than those who were spoonfed as I learned by trial and error

Theres sparring if you make sparring. I got to various MMA schools pretending to want to sign up to test my skills. So of course they try to go hard on me thinking i'm a newb wanting to sell their school. I tell them oh, i train in karate. xD. I do GU, my uncle has a purple belt from denton bjj, and my friend a MMA fighter Alden trains under coach mohler. They show me what I need. I don't have any rank, but know bjj. So, its all about what you do to train realistically.

I've been doing the GU, well learning from other sources as my uncle is purple belt and my friend alden is a mma fighter. I went to various schools no names *cough cough evolve, reyes, mohler. Pretending to want to sign up to test my skills in sparring sessions. I could not be submitted by anyone, but the upper ranks and even then I gave them trouble. They asked if i knew bjj, I said no, just karate. xD In fairness, i'm going to school for physics. Yeah GU real deal, I tested it out. ^^

IamJacksColon4 Cool. Here is a way to prove to KZbin that you are the man...go down to Torrance, CA to the Gracie Academy, walk in, ask to see Rener or Ryron, challenge them to an all out match, get your buddy to record it, and post it for us all to see. Do that and prove your mouth. Or (most likely) be a little girl and talk your way out of it. Whats the matter? Cant beat the Masters in the "online program?"
