@lynnejamieson20633 жыл бұрын
@@Grackle potato scones are incredibly easy to make. You basically take some mashed potato (that you’ve prepared as you like with butter, milk and seasoning) once it’s cold (or you can use leftovers...if you have them) you then add enough flour to make a soft dough, roll the dough to about 5mm thick and either use a round pastry cutter to make individual ones or a side plate as a template for portioning the dough to give the initial cook. You lightly oil a frying pan and cook the dough on both sides until they’re a dark golden brown. Once they’ve cooled the large ones can be cut into quarters and then shallow fried as part of a cooked breakfast. Weird side note, they are actually really nice toasted and then some butter and jam put on top...oh and my Mum used to quite often put fried Scottish pancakes or soda scones (also known as soda farles) on a fry up too.

Hungarian here: never met anyone who eat Pogácsa as a breakfast. When I was in middle school I sometimes had it between breakfast and lunch, or when we have a wine festival you can buy it for a snack or sometimes we bring it to events. Also I"m not sure if you have the same cottage cheese as we do but they looked quite nice what you made. As a child for breakfast I always had cereals. Now I usually eat "hot sandwich" - bread, butter, some cold cut and cheese that melts. You put it in your 40 year old russian small "oven" that you only use for this purpose, if you don"t have it, you can put it in the normal oven. Or we just eat normal breakfasts. I think that there is no "the hungarian breakfast".

Spanish girl here! Just wanted to say you did so well with spanish breakfast. And actually it's more a catalan breakfast. Catalan is from Catalonia, a region in Spain (were Barcelona is), where we speak another language. Pan con tomate (pa amb tomàquet in catalan) is actually what MOST people have for breakfast in Catalonia. Spanish people use to mash the tomato WHICH IS NOT OK. I'm so happy and relieved that you rubbed it instead! Also we have special tomatoes here which they have a very thin skin and they're a lot more ripe so it's easier to rub them on the bread :) PS: New sub here and I'm really enjoying your channel!

Very interesting, I love how passionate people are in guarding their regional variation of certain foods. Forgive my ignorance, but how different is Catalan from Spanish? Can a Spanish speaker understand some Catalan or none at all?
@sofiaparriego88383 жыл бұрын
@@LOUISE__97 Hi! As a someone who is from Valencia (next to Catalonia) Catalan is different from Spanish but there are some words that are easily the same or very similar! However the magic in all the different languages in our country is that they are all spoken in a very unic way depending on where you live. So for example, I would say I speak valencià (just being this an extremely similar variant of catalan). Also, there are regions like Galicia whose people speak gallego or País Vasco where they speak euskera (a language that is extremely different from spanish as it doesn’t even originate from latin!) I hope this wasn’t too much explanation and that I didn’t make to many mistakes with my spelling hahaha :)

I'm so happy you liked pão de Deus, and what a good job! They are incredibly popular, and actually a lot of people like them sliced in the middle with a slice of cheese and/or ham.

Hi Grace We either use a tomatoe which its ripe so plenty slides onto the bread or we grate the whole tomatoe and make a paste to put on top. We definitely use lots of tomatoe and lots of extravirgen olive oil, both are key. Its our most favourite breakfast for us Spaniards. Its is more common to have it without the garlic, but some people prefer it with, when we go to the cafe there is normally two bottles of extra virgen olive oil one with garlic inside and one without so you pick the one you prefer. Love your channel.

Spaniard here: I don’t rub the tomato, I shred it on the cheese shredder then put it on the toast 😊

I've just seen the first minute, and I'm excited to see what you think of Hungary!! Both my parents are Hungarian so I grew up around lots of Hungarian food.

Ahhh maybe I should do a full day of hungarian food!?

@@Grackle That'd be cool! I haven't seen many people do that and there's some really nice foods there :)

@@Grackle Yes definitely, there's much more to Hungarian cuisine that the stereotypical goulash!! Interestingly the pogácsa that I grew up making does have yeast in it, and I've also not seen the cottage cheese used before. Even I learnt something :).

@@Grackle that would be fab. i'm Hungarian if you need any recipes xx

As a born and raised hungarian I am never really eat pogácsa for breakfast. Maybe with a good coco when I was a kid. Our recipe differs that we do not use cottage cheese. We use sour cream instead, with the fat % of 20%. Cheese should be in the dough and on the top of it for crunch! And smaller scones, like two bite sizes. I would love see Grace to do a video making different kinds of cuisines for a whole day! ❤️

I'm Hungarian and you are kinda right, each household makes pogácsa slightly different. Also, Hungarian cottage cheese has smaller 'clusters' so the traditional dough is usually very smooth and not as crumbly.

Pan con tomate is literally one of my favorite breakfast, I'm not Spanish but been living here for the ñast 5 years and is one of the things that I love from here! Literally you can get pan con tomate, a coffe AND orange juice for 2€ and that's breakfast sorted! I feel you about the amount of tomato if you rob it on the bread, what most people do is grate the tomato, and put it on the bread. I personally like to mix the grated tomato with the oil and salt before putting on the toast but that's just me I think! Hope you try is again this way 💖

Your Hungarian with the ‘pogácsa’ was quite good 😄 Although we usually don’t eat it for breakfast, we have it with goulash soup or as a snack with beer, pálinka (Hungarian spirit), or at events for ‘appetizer’. But they looked really good, nice job! ❤️
