"All licensed premises in England and Wales are required by law to provide free potable water to their customers upon request." So as this restaurant has a sign outside saying that they serve alcohol it is illegal to not serve tap water! Not sure how often this law is actually enforced by the police though haha
@hattierosie59485 жыл бұрын
You could report them to trading standards for it tho
@nelliesnose56485 жыл бұрын
Oh, I just commented about the same thing haha. But it’s actually _not_ just if the restaurant serves alcohol! If they serve alcohol, they must offer free tap water, but even if they don’t serve alcohol, they must at least offer tap water for a price. This woman refused any kind of tap water, paid-for OR free. You are right that the law isn’t often enforced by the police, but seeing as it is against company policy it could contribute to the restaurant’s eventual closing-down. And seeing as there are so many other bad things about her company, it would most definitely have an effect!

That price disparity is wild for what you got. But I’m a little stuck on realising how inexpensive even the nice cafes are there! I live in semi rural Oregon (~3 1/2 hours south of Portland) and even in our smaller town a fast food salad is more than the fancy ones you quoted, let alone cafes! And yes before anyone mentions it I did convert from pounds to usd lol, still blowing my mind. Although I think coastal states seem to often have much higher food costs, so maybe middle states like Kansas and Iowa are more similar to your prices? Idk, still surprising regardless. Now I’m curious as to how much lattes and whatnot cost at a non-Starbucks cafe there.

I would assume that the high prices are intended to make up for the lack of customers.
