Wow... The SMT IV soundtrack is actually loyal to the originals!
@FinalStarman953 жыл бұрын
Heck, the whole beginning of SMT IV is a homage to Megami Tensei 1. Both games have you crawl down into a dungeon where you have to fight a minotaur and Medusa.
This is probably my favorite Megaten soundtrack. I'm more biased towards 8-bit music over 16-bit so hearing the Megaten style being expressed through it is pure bliss for me.

Sometimes, I forget the N163 is a simple chip, and it seems more like magic. This isn't even the most that could be done with it, as modern composers have shown us. Even so, what a feat. I sense some Castlevania inspiration, and I also feel like this must have inspired Pixel in composing Cave Story at some point.
@sudacagamer2 жыл бұрын
modern composers? haha, you are joking right?, they don`t even use the same tools, it`s much more easier now. Sunsoft, Natsume and Tecmo composers of the NES era were the real magicians. No one will ever come close to those guys.
@blara24012 жыл бұрын

The Namco 163 offers up to 8 additional sound channels that play wavetable samples while the 175 and 340 do not. Each waveform can be of a configurable length, and each channel has linear volume control. It has $80 bytes of sound RAM shared by channel registers and wavetable samples; at least $40 bytes are dedicated to samples, with more available if not all channels are used. Like the Ensoniq DOC in the Apple IIGS, the chip is unable to clock every channel at once, so it cycles though channels, updating one every 15 CPU cycles. Because of this, the chip allows the game to configure the number of enabled channels. When fewer channels are enabled, the channels are clocked more often, allowing for higher tones with longer, more detailed waveforms. When more channels are enabled, clocking slows down since each channel has to wait its turn, resulting in lower tones and a high-pitched whining noise at the switching frequency. Most games using this IC used only 4 channels.
@CrazyAccordionIsteLuna5 жыл бұрын
so if I understand! it uses 12 channels? i mean even if it doesn't its still amazing that the n163 can create such a beautiful soundtrack for a NES title

In addition to the standard PSG, it has a special sound source chip "n106 (waveform memory sound source)" on the cartridge side, and the number of simultaneous pronunciations increases, and the sound level is spread in comparison with the other company products in the acoustic plane. Moreover, the capacity of ROM increased to a double of 4m bits (512 KB) of the previous work, and the number of recorded songs increased by twice as much as the previous work
