Ms. H! This is the difference between you and the rest !! What a brilliant solution. I am going to take your brilliant tip of "I ASSUME XYZ, " even when I go to university! Also I feel both embarrassed and thankful, since I know that you are taking only a week off and yet kindly took the time to reply!

for 17:24, you said that we could solve the question two ways. I attempted to solve it the first way by using the x around the border however i got a different answer from you. First I did (2x+15) (2x+24) = 1.5 (15x24), but when i solved using the QF, i have a different answer than you!

Did you get 2.07? Remember that you still need to multiply the x by 2 because you are adding x on both sides.

Ms H! I love your videos and I believe that you are a wonderful educator and a generous one at that! However in both these questions the wording is ambiguous. In the first example, The picture is placed on a mat and the mat's area is asked. One can easily interpret it as the whole Area of the mat OR treat the picture as you have interpret it. There is no clue of which one should be considered. In the second question on can interpret the garden as 18 by 12 and adding a border To the garden OR adding a border of flower inside the garden, both arguments are valid. I never consider you as a teacher who says: " I GOT YOU!" but these are brilliant applications of the area and perimeter composite shapes with min and max application, but please just one more word added to the question will get rid of the ambiguity. In the first question ( Mat should be considered like a frame) in the second question ( the tulips inside the garder). Thank you for excellent questions.

I agree! These questions were directly from a textbook and as I mentioned to a previous commenter you should always ask your teacher if you are confused and if they won’t help you then you write “I am assuming this means xyz” Thanks for your comment and compliments ❤️

For the second question, how do we know that the flowers are going to be around the perimeter on the inside vs the outside (basically how would you know if the flower bed is inside or outside of the garden)?
@mshavrotscanadianuniversit62342 жыл бұрын
I guess the wording is always confusing but basically a flower bed is a subset of a garden

@@mshavrotscanadianuniversit6234 Thank you for the reply! I was just wondering because a different video had a similar problem, but they assumed that the flower bed was being constructed around the outside of the garden.

If you ever get a question like that on a test or exam and you aren’t sure (and your teacher refuses to answer anything about it) just make a statement that you are assuming that the flower bed is inside/outside the perimeter.
