can anyone tell me what follows what ------ a tax imposition increases price and that leads to the shift in supply? or the shift in supply leads to the increase in price?.....Sir, as you said that supply curve shifts so price rises...i cannot understand how the effect of taxation is directly on the supply first, should it not be on the price first for which supply changes?

I think tax imposition on supply is because of producers, as tax imposition by the government directly impact the producers of their high tax imposition which leads to cut in supply of producer, which further leads to inflate in the prices. Current example, custom duty of steel increases which leads to shortage of supply ( due to high imported cost) which further leads to inflate in the prices - by Wich we were seeing automobile companies has raised their prices.
