Hey DIY! Love the video. I don't have a box blade or landscape rake. My Landpride Grader Scraper does the job well for me. I see how much more aggressive the box blade is and it does a great job. It was a difficult choice for me whether to get a box blade or grader scraper. Thanks for this informative video.

Love this channel. I have just bought the same rig! L3901 HST and the BB1260 . I am kind of scratching my head as to why I let my dealer talk me into the BB1260 when I told him I was perfectly fine spending more money on the BB1560. My NY State driveway looks very similar to yours (although steep in some areas of the 1/2 mile), and I'm glad to see it working well with the 3901.

I have the landscape box with two blades and it works pretty well on it's own, but I must admit raking it for a final smoothing really makes a big difference. Unfortunately I have a lot of big rock under my gravel and if I do too much I end up getting too many on top. Hopefully eventually after having more gravel put on top a couple more times I may get to where I can go deeper and get better results. Very nice video. I am just starting out and may never get to a rake. I have the land planer, rotary cutter, front loader and a wood chipper. My next high priority item is a grapple. That will happen in the next few months. Great video.

Hi Gary! Yes, I was pleasantly surprised how well the rake dressed up the driveway. Now that you have the driveway tamed with the box blade, you should be able to maintain with your land plane with out digging up the larger stone below. It’s worth a try anyway. Thanks for watching!

Hi Mike! Yes, I love the box blade. The landscape rake is surprisingly effective on a gravel driveway. I didn't buy it with that in mind but I'm sure glad I tried it! If it was facing forward it would just drag a lot of stone from one place to another. Turning around makes it spread gravel like a knife spreads butter. Thanks for watching!

You should think about maybe investing in on off set greater blade , that way you can just set it off to one side and angle it so it pulls everything up from the sides to the center and you can also be able to tilted so you can make a crown in your driveway. Just something for you to think about

Wow! Great video and very helpful for me. I have EA box blade and landscape rake. I’m a novice on the driveway maintenance. I can get mine looking pretty good but end up with a lot of excess material from the box - I saw you build up a lot too - what do you do with it?
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Rich! When I got too much in the box blade I would ease the 3 point up and let it slip out as I kept going forward. Then I’d turn around and go right back over it in the opposite direction. Pulling the scarifiers up and tilting the box blade forward help reduce excess build up. The landscape rake was perfect for doing the final spreading of the gravel evenly over the driveway. Thanks for watching!

That is amazing. How do you know when the drive is to far gone for a box blade? I'm not sure if the stone is to far down in the soil on the drive.
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Juliankha! If there was enough stone on it to begin with, the box blade with the scarifiers set low is great for pulling the stone back to the surface. If you do this and don't pull up enough stone, it means you'll need to add more. I have found that #5 stone is best because the stones are big enough (3/4" - 1") to resist washing away. Most of my driveway was done with #57 which is a mix from 3/8" to 1" and all of the smaller stone is easily swept away with a modest flow of water. Good luck and thanks for watching!

My driveway goes back to 1948. Any tips on this. The center has grown a long term patch of weed/grass. It is 3/4 minus. What topper after boxing? Any concrete powder ground in?
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 2 жыл бұрын
That's an old driveway! You can spray RoundUp on the weeds in the middle or just tear them out when you're using a box blade to smooth and dress it out like you saw me do in this video. The gravel on my driveway is also 3/4" or less (#57), but I've since learned not to use anything less than #5 (3/4" - 1") because the stone is big enough to resist washing away. The gravel in front of my shop is #5 and it stay put even on a hill. Much of #57 stone is so small it is easily washed. I've never used concrete powder. Hope this helps!

Hello! I am new to box blades and just got one today. It looks like it is taking up a huge amount of rock but seems to be distributed evenly. How does taking a whole box full of rock not just move all your rock to the end of the drive way?
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 10 ай бұрын
Hello there! Set up properly, a box blade shaves down high places and deposits the material in low places, but it has to gather up enough stone first to start working it’s magic. Going back and forth several times is what keeps you from just moving gravel from one end of the driveway to the other. Thanks for watching!

@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. I have a little over 17 acres. Whether you get the 2501, 3301, or 3901 really depends on what kind of work you’ll do with it. If you’re going to use rotary mowers, roto tillers or wood chippers, you may find the L2501 won’t have the PTO HP you’ll need, so you might consider getting at least the 3301. Thanks for watching!
