The Gradius games - especially the first one - will always hold a special place for me. It was the arcade machine that I used to play in our local driver's canteen at the local bus station (the game then known as Nemesis in the UK) while my mother spent hours there each day with her then-boyfriend. I was chuffed to bits to eventually get the Spectrum version in my hands, only to discover that said Spectrum version was a big, stinking turd that had only a passing resemblance to the original game. I happened to chance upon a grey market microconsole back in 2001 that had the NES version on it, but it still didn't really nail the experience for me. I had a PSX, but wasn't aware of the Gradius Deluxe Pack as it was a Japan-only release. This means that the first chance that European gamers had a chance to purchase a legal, arcade-faithful port of the first two games was with the PSP version of Gradius Collection.

Fun video, but the commentary just kinda dies midway through and stays dead. Felt very odd. Otherwise that was quite entertaining!

1st comment :-) I played a game on my msx2 called Nemesis & Nemesis 2 I think it's the same game however gradius 2 is equal to Nemesis 3 Because in Nemesis 2 u can enter the boss interior after defeating it to hack it's core and get a secret weapon I didn't see that on this video Looking forward to play gradius collection on PS vita Thank you very much for the great video

Cheers, mate! Gradius for Nintendo game boy was also called "Nemesis" in Europe, so think of it as an alternate name for the Gradius series.

+Ali Faris Nemesis on msx was the same as arcade Gradius, which was also known as Nemesis in some territories. Nemesis 2, however, was a completely original game, not a port of any other Gradius game. Nemesis on gameboy is also a different game, unique to the gameboy, despite sharing a name with the original game. Even more confusingly, Nemesis II for the gameboy (called Gradius: Solar Assault in the US) was unrelated to the msx game of the same name, and, again, was unique to the gameboy. Gradius (Nemesis?) names are confusing.

Gradius 3 wasn't easy even on the SNES version. By the way there's no Salamander/Life Force on it? Shame...
@borbello62704 жыл бұрын
In Japan, "Salamander Portable" came out a year after this, containing Salamander, Life Force (the 1987 Japanese version with the Gradius Power-Up system), Salamander 2, XEXEX, and Gradius 2 (MSX). Highly recommended!
