From an aesthetic perspective, the PSP is my favorite handheld. I remember buying one around launch and being blown away by the systems capabilities in terms of visuals. While a lot of the major titles that were pushed are inferior to their console counterparts and lost some of their appeal, there are a lot of great gems, especially in the RPG category.

A little known fact.. Sony added extra PSP video support into their PlayStation 3D Display. If you connect one via the component cable, it will detect the PSP, and fill the entire screen space without any black bars. It looks pretty nice on the 24" screen too. The PS 3D Display also looks like a giant PSP Go, so it all makes sense. :)

Too bad those displays had a faulty control chip in all models causing them to fail over time. Good 3D displays otherwise and all you have to do is find the chip online and replace but not many have the ability or confidence to do so.

It would provide a lot of fodder for a "portable sequels to console games" episode, what with Daxter and the Ratchet and Clank games on the system, not to mention the Siphon Filter games and more. In general it's a little console with a lot to offer, and one that definitely deserves more retro love. So, all you retro handheld consolizer people: PSP consolizer with HDMI out when? In all serious though I love the PSP, fantastic wee console that really holds up today with its game library. I remember Dave enjoying Loco Roco on this system, how is the man himself anyway?

In the Japanese Disgaea games the Prinnies end sentences with -ssu (desu), there are variants of this and it's both a dialect and a cute quirky speech thing. Whomever added the dood thing in the English translation made a huge mistake. But man... The PSP! Such a great system and there are tons of near forgotten games to explore on it. If you dabble in the dark arts of emulation you can get rid of the typical PS1/PSP style dithering, crank up the resolution and best of all, play with a regular pad so you don't get the CLAW. My hands cramp up in just minutes on handhelds.

@@xOmniCloudx Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max and Tekken Dark Resurrection are the superior versions of their respective games. People don't realize that the Psp supported wifi before it was widely available. Before that, if you wanted demos or music, you would have to use a USB cable for the download. Before the official PlayStation store began, gaming companies would upload their demos straight to the internet in various places. I remember using Photoshop to create a white jpg that I shared with some people online to turn it into a flashlight. With the browser, you could browse files, so you could create a text file as your default homepage that had with links to your favorite sites/porn, as well as a flash booter for flash animations or small games. Fucking love this thing.

Lol, before the “bruh” there was the “bro” and before that it was “brother”. I’m not sure why all the younger generations have to make up their slang words. I freaking loved the Megaman remakes, especially Maverick Hunter X. There are some new things in that game you didn't mention. When you beat it, you get a 25 minute anime that's like a prequel to the game's story and AFTER that, you unlock Vile and that has a whole new story, and changes up the gameplay a tiny bit due to his weapons. It's a shame the games sold poorly initially because they became popular once the online store was introduced and Capcom already cancelled ALL Megaman projects. AW WELL.

I'm surprised that in a 40 minute video that emulation on, and of, the PSP was not mentioned. As a emulation handheld the PSP is still one of the best options out there with excellent build quality, a great screen, and of course its own native library. Emulation of the handheld brings great enhancements to the games with upscaling providing a new look in many cases and when combined with high resolution texture packs, the games really do take on a new life.

The PSP was perfectly designed for handheld emulation. It was also the first portable system that was powerful enough to do it really well, so it's no surprise that the hacking scene for it took off like crazy.
