When they said this game is the hardest in the series, they most likely mean the first loop being the hardest, which I agree. Gradius IV may be harder on high difficulty settings and loops, but this one is brutal right off the bat, which is what turned people off. So with IV, high difficulty is a reward for getting far into the game, but III throws an unfair challenge at you right from the beginning.

Type B is probably the most offensive weapon set up in any Gradius game. Spread bomb does huge damage, has a huge explosion radius, and you can drop two at once. Tailgun is the typical back shot, but it makes the moai stage possible, especially the boss. Ripple laser is vastly overpowered - it stretches to huge range, and has the power of the usual narrow laser beam.

Gotta commend you for taking care of one of my favorite horis and Gradius titles in 1 credit. It's quite a beast of a game, one I enjoy playing from time to time on my PS2 with slowdown off, makes Big Core MKIII a nice adventure.

In all other games the ripple laser has large vertical range, but as a counter balance, it is weaker than the standard laser beam. This is not the case in Gradius III, it has large range and the same strength as the normal laser.

I love watching you play this, because you make almost all the exact same decisions I do and at all the same times. There were a few things you do better than me however, like going OVER the Stage 2 Boss at the beginning of the fight. That usually gets me killed. I go over and around him, I never just sit there at the top. Though, I might try perfecting that now... Or maybe my version is just messed up, your version might have a higher flight roof than mine.

One of my favourite games from the arcade days. Also, I think this may be the first game ever where I found myself really liking the soundtrack. What a great and classy soundtrack this game has. Nice play through as well. Was great to see this game in action again. :P

Thanks. "A nice adventure" is certainly a good way to put it! Pretty much the game can be divided into three sections 1. Everything before Big Core Mk. III 2. Everything after, until Crystal Stage 3. Crystal Stage and beyond

The SNES/SFC, PSP, PS3, XBox 360, Wii, PS2, and arcade versions of this game are all well done, though the SNES/SFC version lacks the sand lions. However, despite some enemy omissions and stage alterations, the SNES/SFC version has clearly superior voices and music and is one of the best ports of a Konami game to that system.

I've played Gradius V, Dam my mind was numb, it was so long, there are so many tight space you have to go through, very narrow, So many obstacles that you must manuever over. The only great thing about the game is there is no Option theif and you respawn from where you die rather then from the beginning or a check point.

Dodonpachi Dai-ou-jou (The original not the black label) is a much more harder than Gradius III. only 5 to 6 people were able to beat the game about a year after it's arcade release. I believe only 2 to ONE people was able to beat the death label version of the game on the PS2.
@rvcklvss9 жыл бұрын
You're saying that an ingeniously-designed bullet-hell shooter is more difficult than a 25 year old game? Good observation.
@Nordicus01149 жыл бұрын
You could put it that way for the Dodonpachi series. I like both methodical and danmaku shmups.
@MetalSonicodraco73429 жыл бұрын
sicnarfkcin Gradius III = More determination, strategy and good eye's. DonPanchi (Series) (I like them, but, I don't like your commentary) = Bullet-Hell Shooter, good eye, good pulse (I never like the Auto-fire).
@Nordicus01149 жыл бұрын
I agree with you opinion on gradius III.
@Maru969 жыл бұрын
sicnarfkcin Don't lie and tell me, did you even play Gradius III arcade? or do you assume that Dodonpachi is harder because of "more bullets"? Most bullethell give you an illusion of difficulty because of tons on slow bullets and small hitbox, but they aren't THAT hard compared to old school shooters.
