I remember being in love with New Gold Dream. One Sunday night in the Fall of 1983, while working in a gas station, the local DJ at the progressive rock station played the new release by Simple Minds, Waterfront. It was so different than anything they had done before. It was almost shocking to see the change on musical direction… but I do love Sparkle in the Rain as well.

New gold dream is a masterpiece no two ways about it...for me the best album I’ve ever heard , even earlier with I travel , thirty frames a second , Boys from Brazil .....it’s seminal music that still stands the test of time for sure......Theme for great cities has been sampled so many times by DJ’s with corporation of one , Latour - Blue , Sunscreen - perfect motion (boys own mix)......New gold dream (usura - open your mind ) and many more Simple minds ranks as one the best bands in the history of music and there ability to adapt to different sounds is unique

Early Simple Minds first 5 ( 6) Albums recorded between 1979-82 were absolutely amazing and filled with Artistic brilliance and so experimental sound scapes, then they went mainstream and more rock/ Pop and followed the same path as U2 through the door marked " Dollar and pound " and ok they had loads of no1 Albums and made a shed load of money and even made a few decent songs as time went on but when you listen to their early pre 1982 stuff then compare it to Dont you...its almost like a cosmic joke being played out. Having said all that even if you went through their Albums from 1990 until the present day you could still make a great double album, even if they have really been half a band with session players apart from" Neapolis" which of course was written in 1998 with Derek Forbes back in the fold and was half decent,.....but still all said and done Simple Minds are one of the greatest British bands of all time and deserve any praise for the joy and happiness they have given to millions of people around the world for decades and for that we must be eternally grateful, Thank you Simple Minds.

It's very sad to see SM today. Mel's been sidelined (again!), Mick would jump at the chance to play in the band again, Derek is humble and healthy. SM today is like a cabaret act ... All these Brit School band members on stage with them. It's like Bucks Fizz. Think of bands who kept their credibility .. U2, even Aha are incredible these days.

Yeah. The rot set in very early. Losing McGee was the end of the real Simple Minds.
