Graf Spee is Just Unfair | World of Warships: Legends

A highlight reel of my 1 v 1 run in T5 Ranked. I chose the Graf Spee this time and lost one one time while ranking out. While the Graf Spee may be fairly mediocre in Standard Battle, in Ranked scenarios like this, it's almost unstoppable.

I played the whole season with Graf Spee and it felt like “Easy Mode.” I also don’t generally love it for Standard Mode, but here, I had no trouble defeating every kind of ship. I’m a little surprised I didn’t see others doing the same. I appreciate that it can be a little unsatisfying firing just the one turret when angling, and the accuracy is not wonderful, but it has the tools to handle every situation.

I agree you killed me yesteday so I had to change from my top 3 to go exclusive with Graf Spee.thank you for doing that.That was my only game in Dallas and that I blame Chilligames for haha.I do think Makarov and Nurnberg is going somewhat good for Crusiers.

The Brits called it a "pocket battleship". The Germans simply called it "armored ship", which was certainly descriptive. The British were alarmed since this thing--at least on paper--trumped treaty cruiser designs and it certainly was a threat to commerce. The Germans weren't subject to the WNT, only the Versailles treaty. That stated that any ships they built to replace the aging pre-dreadnoghts they were allowed to retain had to be 10K tons or less and could only have guns up to 11" in caliber. So, they builts a 10k ship (more or less) with 11" guns. Simple.

Outrun what you can't outgun...or so went the theory...Only Renown, Repulse, and Hood could do both, when they launched. News of their characteristics prompted the French to design the Dunkerques, which led to Scharnhorst, which led to Richelieu, etc etc... Fascinating ships

@@Zapranoth-lf8nt Their development is interesting from both the standpoint of attempting to meet the treaty restrictions and the fact it goaded the French to start building capital ships up to their WNT allowances--which triggered the Italians to build up to theirs (and then some), and around the major European powers it went until the war started.

The Scharnhorst-class battleships were pocket battleships which had cruiser guns and didn’t have the armor to back them up

I started in the Graf Spee but found my way through the De Grasse and then the Exeter. I had lots of fun this season. GGs Xarkun 🍻

The third and final Panzerschiff of the Deutschland class, the Admiral Graf Spee, was commissioned in January 1936, and after the appropriate trial period, served as flagship of the German fleet. Like her two other sister ships, the Graf Spee conducted several non-intervention patrols off the coast of Spain during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). In late August 1939, shortly before the outbreak of the European war, the Graf Spee was sent to a waiting position in the south Atlantic as a precautionary measure. Once war actually broke out, she ran a successful commerce raiding campaign, in which nine British ships were sunk totaling 50,089 GRT, before she encountered the British cruisers Exeter, Ajax, and Achilles on 13 December. In the engagement that followed, known as the Battle of the River Plate, the Exeter and the Ajax were heavily damaged, but the Graf Spee was also hit and ran into Montevideo for repairs. There, the Uruguayan authorities granted a period of only 72 hours which the Germans considered not enough to make their ship seaworthy again. In view of the apparently hopeless situation after failing to obtain an extension of the time allowed, Captain Langsdorff ultimately decided to scuttle the ship and save the crew that was interned in Argentina.

Andrea was extremely good, the new Italian bb. A full sec build melts, i fought like 5 graf spees, each one, didn't even need to use my guns not once.

I considered using it, but the Graf Spee. I mean what other ship at T5 is so uniquely qualified to demolish ships of its own class? I can’t think of another one on the same level

I did a combo of Graf Spee (undefeated up to Rank-4 !!) and then switched over to my 100% Full Secondary Doria (Di Revel inspired by 16-L4 Von Hipper and 16-L4 ARP-Haruna), with 6.3 km Secondary Range … and rode that the rest of the way to Rank-1 ☺️

Gnevny was my pick for Tier V ranked. Only lost to a Mahan (turret traverse failed me), T-61 (Smoke/Soar combo) and Nurnberg (Forgot about his torps). Faced a Graff Spee and he took 4 blind fire torps, 3 of which were while his sonar was active. An easy win. I think he might have been relatively new to the game.

I didn't even think about the Graf Spee, I just completed the T5 season with mostly Gnevny. It was a surprisingly strong ship in that it's guns are really strong. 3.1 reload time is solid and the torps are not bad either, 6km for a Russian ship is pretty good on these small maps. I think I had one loss in there somewhere, but honestly I don't remember which ship I lost against -- maybe a cruiser. In fact I am mostly a BB guy and after having the early success with Gnevny, I didn't even attempt to play a cruiser or BB in this round.

Haven't played ranked yet because of work duties, but it's the weekend now and I gotta tell ya...been thinking about what vessel I would bring to bear and for some reason Graf Spee hasn't even entered my thought stream. Should indeed be strong 1v1. Thanks so much for this great upload Xark!

I also had some good luck in Graff Spee, however I was completely outplayed by a Duca di Aosta, I didn't realize he had so much side armor

Graf spee was a lot of fun this time around but I started with battleships initially but finished strong in the battle cruiser

In the Dion game he has points advantage due to the cap so since game judged that you both sank at same time the points decide win, same as in case of a ram. I’ve had one GS vs. GS battle so far and we were about equal as players (judging by maneuvering and positioning and so on) but he got mostly full pens and citadels and I got most overpens … GS guns can really be a dice roll. That’s about the only downside of the ship in this context.

See, I dont have the Spee but I wish I did. But my Nurnberg took me on a 13-2 streak in ranked last night, losing only to a Bayern (barely) and a California. Killed two or three Grafs in the process. So this video gave me a good chuckle lol

Ran the table with the Spee including a couple BB's and a Mahan. She's my first premium and most played ship. Poor enemy cruisers who try to go broadside for a torp run.

I used the Aigle and only lost one match because I misplayed the match. Pretty much was able to out gun any other destroyer and was able to close the distance with any cruiser or battleship and torp them before they could torp me. The only match I lost was to a Budyonny that was able to get behind some islands with his sonar and I mistakenly waited for him rather than being aggressive.

I sailed right through with the Gnevvy, I only lost to the DeGrasse and another Gnevvy. There were several crusier match ups too but with 12+ range they'd get frustrated and rush forward into the new 6km torps!

Cruisers were badly overmatched in this 1v1 season. Over half of my battles in a CL matched me with Graf Spee (pay to win) or a BB. The BBs spotted me at long range and one/two salvo killed the cruiser, no matter how agile. And as we see in this cool vid, the GF demolishes cruisers. Graf Spee is basically what you get when you roll Geneisenau back to T5. It's an interesting window into cruiser capabilities. At T3/4 I could demolish anything in the right cruiser. At T5, the tech tree cruisers are a little anemic.

I played Pensacola using a 16/3 Einstein with 16/4 Von Muller & 16/3 AL Baltimore Ingenious, Full Speed Ahead, Punch Through, Fixated, and Refill Station. I DESTROYED EVERY Cruiser and Destroyed I encountered. Including every Graf Spee

Ngl when I used that thing in 1v1s it truly is unfair for the enemy ships, you have good heals, that sonar, and if you can bait battleships enough using your catapult fighter and just shell them and haven them not see you then once they lose about 10-20% of health just sneak up basically and torp them it’s as easy as that

I did great in Ranked IV but I'm getting clubbed in V. Started with Exeter then to Graf now to Nurnburg. Facing BBs gets tough

I ranked out and only lost one game in Prinz Eitel Friedrich, which I was not expecting at all haha. Just thought I’d give it a try because of the secondaries and it turns out it’s fantastic in close range 1v1s. 🤷‍♂️

@@Xarkun Yeah in my opinion Bayern is just a little too sluggish, the turret traverse is horrendous and the secondaries, while having longer range, have nowhere near the damage output of Friedrich’s, which ended up being the difference maker in more than a few BB brawls.

Torps. If they're dumb enough (they usually are) to sail broadside the 11" guns can really chunk them. However, you are at a disadvantage against BBs since you are a cruiser. Still, you can usually absorb one broadside and get the torps in. You have lots and the torp firing angles are very good.

I love facing the British cruisers in the Graf spee because the guns are great and aren’t they tirpitz or scharnorst any way the British armour is so bad and it’s funny to watch a game finish In like 1:20

Not hard to see why. It's easily the best cruiser in the game. Annoyingly hard to pen for other cruisers yet armor still thin enough to make BB shells overpen. Guns that can overmatch most cruisers armor and big enough to hurt BBs. Good sonar to prevent destroyers from getting you and decent heal to keep you going.

i played Mahan and came across 50% battle against cruisers and graf spee was few of them. They were easy to kill becoz of less guns ,weird torp angle and maneuverability. :)

Then those Graf Spees were played poorly and you played the Mahan well. I killed quite a few Mahans with ease
