Grafting ficus tree

In this video I show how to graft the new branch onto a bonsai tree.
I started getting serious about bonsai around 13 years ago.
I have always been into plants and was interested in bonsai since I was a kid. My first bonsai was 3 cuttings from a ficus that my great grandmother had as a house plant.

I too love ficuses they make awesome bonsai.. I have 3 types so far which I love. 1. Ficus Religiosa 2. Ficus Benjamina 3. Ficus Microcarpa (Tiger Bark) They really are very forgiving and they dont mind what time of year you repot them unlike others. I did a total defoliation on the Microcarpa in early Sept and its now Oct, hes looking great with his new leaves. I want to do the same for the Ficus Religiosa but I will wait for the growing season to do that one as it means a great deal to me and dont want to lose it Great video glad that one graft worked out.

Can I graft a ficus oblique onto a ficus microcarpa Bonsai? Do you think it will work? What are the possible problems? Thanks and God bless!

Thanks for the question. I will be honest I don't know for sure. I have never tried. The obliqua is in the macrocarpa family so I would say there is a very good possibility that it will work and that would be a great way to get smaller leaves. I have to ask, why would you not just grow the odliqua? Thanks for the blessing.

I haven't had a need to. Most of the time a ficus in the right conditions will just grow them. But you got me thinking if there is a specific Branch but you would like an it would be nice to put one there. Im sure you can I would think you will want to use a root that is large enough.

Hello there in your opinion is it possible to drill half way lower trunk area to graft lower branches on my ficus retusa to get some lower branching as they're being cut off by previous grower owner... I could take up hire branches hopefully graft some lower branching thank you

Yes I have seen that before . You just have to make sure the cambium layer of the branch meets the cambium layer of the trunk. And you can use cut paste to help it heal.

Hi there just one more question... does the graft branch have to be old or can I use a newly fresh grown branch because I've got some pruning to do and want to give it a go it's around 3 in 4 in thanks

@@thetruthchannel7073 a branch from the tree you want to graft a branch onto is ideal because it will match the tree the tree because it came from the tree. In my opinion you don't want to graft a large branch, but it does need to have woody bark for this type of grafting.
