I this video, I will demonstrate the bark graft. The first part of the video shows the end product 4 seasons after grafting it. So this video will essentially be taking you back in time 4 years to experience the graft and what can become of it 4 years later. Enjoy!

Nice work. On the larger diameter limb cuts you can put a graft every 2” or so. They will help close up the wound. Clip them off as the wound heals up.

The tree that you showed at 1:56 looks like it could be malus fusca, or Pacific Crab Apple. I know you've done some experiments using malus fusca. How are those experiments going?

Yes it’s pacific crab, the best roots that thrive on our wet lands. I like it a lot. Apples tend to be larger is size on pacific crab also.

@@nickkasko2097 We're also in the PNW and have lots of pacific crab on some property we bought a few years ago. We've been experimenting with grafting to them, but we're years behind you. I've noticed that some of my trees are more receptive than others to being grafted to. Some trees will accept any cultivar I graft to it, and others will only accept honeycrisp, or belle de boskoop, or alkmene. When a grafted cultivar fails, I double down on that cultivar the next year, to rule out grafter incompetence. It's been a fun experience. We've learned a lot. Each spring we pull hundreds of scions out of the fridge and get to work! This year, we'll be grafting interstems to some seedling volunteers.

@@homesteadrevivals that’s interesting to hear because I have not seen any that are incompatible with my pacific crab. Mine is special I think because they are not seedlings, all clonal root suckers coming from the original mother tree that has adapted well to our property. Probably over 50 years old. All my pacific crab are clones of her.

The only scion that didn't thrive on a malus fusca was a dolgo crabapple. Weird. I grafted around 15-20 varieties so far and have another 50 plus on order for this spring. Happy grafting!!!​@homesteadrevivals
