Let's get realistic. I've read other comments here, unrealistic. Romania were woeful and unfit. Overweight lots of them. Scotland? Great running rugby but like I said....🤔 Additionally, for years now, officials have been letting teams get away with forward passes. It's unacceptable. Scotland had 5, 3 of which were blatant.

I love watching rugby but I hope there will be a moment in which the matches become less predictable. The gap between the best 8/9 teams and the rest is too vast, and often squads like Wales, France, NZ etc seem to be training against the opponents.

Portugal and Georgia have been great value, Uruguay have been better than people expected. Fiji were outside the top 8 a couple years back and look at them now. Think the real minnows will always get pumped but there is a growing class outside that core 8 who are getting better and hopefully will be even more competitive in 4 years time

The eight top rank teams as per the season ending before the RWC should be randomly drawn and sorted into two pools of four with two games each against one another, the top two in each group then going into the semis either drawn randomly ( sod the logistics) or a pre set formula. The minnows meanwhile would have their own 'Plate" competition to avoid what must be total demoralisation at being gleefully ripped to shreds by the Big Boys. Let's face it only 4 would be likely to win the RWC if the draw hadn't been so disgustingly weighted in favour of England, Wales and, so it appeared, Australia. Bill Beaumont is totally out of touch !!

Tonga have been very dissappointing this WC with no structure, slow attacks and clearance of rucks and awful with discipline so I doubt South Africa will have much trouble. How about Scotland scoring 4 converted tries and a penalty and Ireland scoring 4 converted tries to lose by 3 points? South Africa will be out and Ireland will still be on top. we suck at soccer/football too but you're right in terms of popularity romanians, the overwhelming majority of them, only know & care about football/soccer, handball (because of past performances of being 4 times World champions mainly), tennis and the olympic sports but that's happening every 4 years....we are a joke of a nation in terms of sporting prowess, very superficial, highly materialistic, no will for glory, we like to take the easy way and not the hard path, for ex. if a coach would come and would start training hard a group of lads those lads would start complaining about it to the manager or to the president of the club and they will do anything to sabotage the new coach.

The rest of the teams can play in their own RWC giving them a better chance to reach the final ,without embarrasment during the tournament ,this way the players and coaching staff will have more cofidence and motivation because they have something to play for and no harassment

@@balrajtakhar3622 Scotland has a tiny rugby union presence. We have two professional club teams, and a population of 5 million people- who all prefer football. Scotland were arguably hit the hardest by the development of the professional game, obviously if the rules allow it we will use it. But one starting South African is hardly something to blow your gasket about. The best thing of all is that no one cared about our players when Scotland weren’t a threatening team to play- but now we are competitive all of a sudden it’s a highly unconscionable practice.

They've easily beaten sides like Argentina & Italy and also had a close game against South Africa which they lost 36-26, 10 points difference or something like this. They have a bright future ahead in my opinion, they've beaten Wales on their home ground in a test match in November a year ago, they've beaten Italy as well in 2022, Scotland in 2021. The sport is very popular at a grassroots level In Georgia unlike Italy for ex. where it's still struggling to be picked up by the youth. Italy's only advantage is that they have much more money to spend (almost half of their squad are naturalized players with different non-italian backgrounds) and Italy also has tougher matches & opponents on a daily basis so as to grow their own players to a somewhat decent level of competency which will also make it easier to advertise them to clubs from top leagues like RUC, Top 14 or Premiership. If Georgia had the same chances of playing regularly against top opponents like Italy has, they would grow more than Italy has grown, of that i'm absolutely sure because like i told you rugby is a national sport in Georgia, it has started to be practiced in schools & highschools. But men in blazers because of money reasons don't want to expand the sport - they see it adding Georgia to the 6 Nations tournament and make it the 7 Nations tournament as being more expensive than profitable, bigger costs than gains or very small gains or net zero gains, they unfortunately don't care about the potential or the popularity of the sport they only care about their own pockets and their status.

An editorial in the Guardian about this rule: When is a forward pass not a forward pass? It’s all about relative velocity A pass from the hands of one player to another must go backwards to be legal. Right? Wrong Room for manoeuvre guarantees room for confusion, though, and nowhere in the laws of the game is this real-world application (taking into account relative velocity) even mentioned. “A player must not intentionally throw or pass the ball forward,” reads the law, with the specific definition of ‘forward’ being “towards the opposition’s dead-ball line”. Whoever has best points difference goes through first. Then whoever won the head to head between the other 2 goes through 2nd. Scotland would need SA to have best pd or have best of themselves. SA would want best pd themselves, or Ireland to have best. And Ireland would want best pd, or Scotland to have it if they don’t.

World rugby need to look at the whole format for the development of rugby in the second tier nations. It is not fair towards these teams to be hammered into submission. I most certainly do not find any enjoyment watching rugby like this. On the positive note, Scotland did very well.
