I will not be compelled to tell untruths. Biological sex matters. I also will not go down the pronoun, compelled speech route. @carolynbrightfield8911 Жыл бұрын
@fiveleavesleft6521 look back over history before it is erased entirely. Different cultures, different climates etc influenced how males and females dressed. External costume is only as relevant as the individual and society deem it to be. As for all males have exactly the same hormone levels, and ditto all females - as your comment seems to imply, that is scientific naivety in the extreme. It is such a pity we have left the concept of distribution curves behind. I'm female. I could no more be chosen for a female Olympic team than fly to the moon. I'm short and inappropriate body shape,lol. And yet biological males feel excluded based on their sex. Where is the 160 cm height female category for me, so I don't feel excluded, lol? Then the 170 cm category, now let's start subcategories for high oestrogen levels etc. Sport has always been exclusionary to cast swathes of people. Oh, and how rich do you have to be for that Olympic training? With the right parents to take you to lessons from age 3? 5? Success in sport, like most things in life depends on so many pieces of "luck" in life. These people don't accept themselves for who they are.
@fiveleavesleft6521 Жыл бұрын
@@carolynbrightfield8911 I'm very obviously talking about average differences. You accept that they exist physically, but can you extend that to psychology that could lead to differing outcomes? If not, why not? I'll give a small example. Women, on average, have a better sense of smell and a lower disgust threshold than men. This is thought to have evolved due to women being the gestators and primary care givers- therefore having more reason to prioritise cleanliness. If you now think about that in the context of the feminist "gender household chores gap" you can see where I'm going with this. When couples argue about jobs not being done around the house it's usually more of a "what conditions do i feel comfortable in" argument than a "who is lazy" one. Of course, acknowledging this would mean one less way feminists can demonise men, so they ignore it.

Does Graham ever acknowledge he was fully in support of cancel culture until it came for him?

@@Poecilia1963Only after they cancelled HIM. He was, surprisingly, fully in support of cancel culture when it benefited, and his behaviour was appalling and unethical. Now he's "reflected"... because he is alone and broke.

@@venga3Is it because he's alone & broke, or is it because he simply realized how wrong he was? (I didn't see any of that period, by the way, I'd never heard of him until recently). Anyway, I guess this comes down to - can people change? (I believe they can). If they can, do we forgive them, and if not why not? Is redemption possible, or are people forever tarred by past mistakes? (If that's the case, why bother trying to grow & be a better person). Do we believe in second chances? Everyone will have their own answers to these questions.

I will continue to watch, listen to, and read anything by Graham Linehan. He's so brilliant. Also, I will continue to call myself a woman (not a cis woman) and defend women's sports and private spaces. I was a competitive swimmer and can't imagine having to compete with biological men or share a dressing room with them. I will continue to be compassionate and sympathetic toward people unlucky enough to feel that they were born in the wrong body. Nevertheless, I will defend the English language against mutilation of its pronouns and other terms. I make my living as an editor, so that's a dodgy position to take these days. I will also defend children, if I possibly can, from the virtue-signaling "progressive" zealots who would smugly and happily ruin their lives without the slightest risk of suffering any consequences for doing so. History will condemn them, at least I can hope it will, but that won't help those children. I will continue to be appalled at the spinelessness of people with a platform who, unlike Graham Linehan, don't publicly defend common sense.

Such an important conversation. There needs to be more like this to balance this crazy ideology damaging so many vulnerable young people. Well done Graham for speaking out on this subject and Brendan for giving him a platform.

There are many feminisms Brendan and feminists have been at the forefront of the pushback against gender ideology. In the 90s, a split occurred between some feminists in the academy, specifically poststructuralists, and grassroots feminists activists. The former tended to see themselves in lofty terms as theorists and thought leaders and rather looked down on activists organising around "wimmins" issues. Following Butler, they argued that gender stereotypes persisted despite decades of feminist activism, so it was necessary to radically deconstruct not only the concept of gender, but also sex. From this perspective, trans are seen as a sort of avant-garde. Seems the trans movement had their own ideas and agenda. I suspect many academic feminists do now see the misogyny and homophobia in the trans movement, but as Brendan said are too invested to roll back on their previous position. It's striking to me how many have grown silent on trans issues in the past few years.

All the differences between male and female behaviours exist on Bell curves, many can be attributed to the different socialisation of male and female children, however our biological sex IS binary, and in general the modal value for women differs from the modal value for men, height being a very obvious attribute. The academic sociologists are very attached to socialisation as supremely important, this biologist reckons basic biological differences are also important!!! But there should be no restrictions on the opportunities offered to both sexes.

No. He was the one running with the woke mob and cancelling others. It's just that eventually, as it always happens with these types, they run into disagreement and someone gets purged. He got purges by his cronies due to the trans issue. If he had been pronfree speech from the start this wouldn't have happened. He's got no morals, no principals and is essentially a blind idiot that got one thing right. He's just making the rounds because he's alone, desperate and broke. I don't trust him a bit.
