Gregg was a great talent..what you see is what you get. As you see in this program, he loved what he did and despite his battle with alcohol/drugs he was able share his musical gifts with us. I always loved his quiet demeanor..never patting himself on the back…..he just went about his business in a professional way and brought the audience along for the ride. Epitome of a simple man trying to live a simple life despite being a world famous entertainer.

We opened for the Allman Bros Band in '69 in St Petersburg, FL. We sat in a circle backstage and passed around a couple of joints and talked about Music. One of my favorite memories. Our lead guitarist, Lenny Austin, and I stood 6 ft from Gregg during their performance, just behind the curtain. I said, "Lenny, we are never gonna see these guys again. They are going straight to the TOP!" (Our keyboard player shot himself in the foot and got out of the draft)

SO happy to find this. I discovered Greg, Duane, and the ABB in 1969 at a friends house whose brother had just bought their first, eponymous, album. I was immediately hooked; Greg's soulful, bluesy voice, Duane's unbelievable playing, and the cohesion of the band itself was just amazing. They are still in my regular rotation today. So good to see Greg celebrating his 1 yr sobriety anniversary here, as I'd seen him at his worst. In '74, I saw the ABB in Phoenix and they'd took a 30min break between sets. I was standing no further than 25 ft from Greg & his Hammond when they came back out. As an ex-addict myself, Greg had obviously gotten loaded (heroin) during the break. He couldn't keep from nodding off at the keyboard for the remainder of the concert. I was sadden & heartbroken to see him like this, having been there myself. I truly thank God that Greg finally made it to sobriety and continued to bless us with his music. Love to you Greg. Rest well, my friend . 💙

I studied classical piano for many years, never listened to rock & I studied classical piano for many years, never listened to rock & roll because I thought it was awful. Several years ago I heard this great song "Sweet Melissa" and had to find out who sang that great song. Since that discovery of Gregg Allman I've regretted the years I lost not listening to this artist and all because I was a snob. He's a magnificent singer, an artist with an abundance of soul, a true musical genius who plays guitar, organ, piano, a composer, who sings so tenderly and honestly I cry because he touches me as no other artist has ever moved me. God Bless You Gregg. May you be with God serenading Him and His heavenly chorus of angels, saints, and all the regular folks God chose to live with Him in His celestial palace.

why? It was ridiculously awkward. Tho terrific at what he does, Greg is not the sharpest tool in the shed. You're one of many many suck-ups from what I can tell, and I even very much like what those guys have stood for musically

Smart, witty, talented, charismatic, the whole package, one of a kind. Him & Dickie Betts graciously signed my Live at Fillmore East album at a show in North Carolina, great moment in my life! Thankfully he didn’t continue on to Dental school….

The draft dodging story... Jimmy Carter memories...the discussion about Jackson Browne... And this rendition of Melissa all moved me deeply. I remember the first time I heard them The Allman Brothers ( Allman Joys) were playing on the end of the pier in Daytona Beach. I am so thankful I found this video! And, for me, it is especially wonderful because it's with Graham Nash. Thank you!
