Frugal Tip: Covert a minivan into a camper - I made a video on how I did it I made one video -- it did great -- but I tend to overthink about "the market" for the video. Given that in 2024, every space is so saturated. How does one fit "audience market fit" in 2024? Love you Kong

For someone with so few episodes, you are really fucking good at this podcasting. In terms of pacing, voice, production, guest, etc. I don't agree with Graham's philosophy in life (death in the family. He died saving up his entire life and never enjoyed life), I can see how it works for him

At least for me, it's not about money... it's about what money can get you. Not having to worry about bills, pay for experiences with my friends and family, live in a place that is great for my personal/professional life, etc.

I agree with the Starbucks stuff but, IMO, you missed 3 things: (1) if you lower your monthly expenses by being frugal, you both save more and it costs you less money per month (so you can be unemployed for longer); it's a double bonus; (2) you don't really talk about when you have $1M+ in 40 years: do you still live the frugal lifestyle? why do you need a $1M+ for a frugal lifestyle?; people think that they'll save $1M+ and then just spend extravagantly; (3) Starbucks is small potatoes compared to the real money wasters like interest payments, huge mortgages, leased cars, hoarding (a la the TV show) in daily purchases and property destruction, pets, gadgets, timeshares, "the best education money can buy" for your kids; if you can avoid these huge money leaks, a small daily indulgence like Starbucks (if it's just that one thing) is a minor money leak.

Remember though, $1million in 40 years will only be worth about the equivalent of $60k in today's money. So don't think you can save on a cup of coffee a day and in 40 years you'll be able to buy the house you saw last week listed for a million dollars. If you want to check, just find a house for sale that is over 30 years old and check the price it originally sold for. Rule of thumb, property doubles about every 10 years depending on things like location. You'll probably find this happens to sales that are a minimum of 15 - 20 years apart. (As an example, I bought a shack in the middle of Tasmania [bottom of Australia], in a town that had more sheep than people in it. I paid AUD$12,000 cash [admittedly land value was about $20k at the time] and sold it about 35 years later for $185,000. It works like this: Bought for $12k. 10 years later, on average, worth $24k. 20 years later, on average, worth $48k. 30 years later, on average, worth $96k. 40 years later, on average, worth $192k.
@KongPham8 ай бұрын
True, we're not counting for inflation but I think the $1 million in 40 years = $60k today is very far off. Assuming a 2.5% average inflation rate, $161k in 40 years is equal to $60k today.
