Miller's use of the word "garbage" bothers me. I've heard Baffert say he loves horses but I wonder if he only means horses that make him rich and not horses in general. I have a hard time accepting that Baffert thinks of a horse as "garbage." And just because a horse costs less than a couple million does not mean it can't be a Triple Crown winner. Lest we forget Seattle Slew and Sea Biscuit and California Chrome and I could go on and on. if you could look at a weanling or a yearling and you could tell he was going to be great, American Pharoah would have sold that first time he came to auction. I admire Bob Baffert very much but he's wrong to think or say that a horse is "garbage" if the cost was only 50,000 bucks. Bode Miller's not doing Bob Baffert any favors.

There are colloquiums used by people in every business and to understand them you have to know the business - well. When Baffert calls a horse “garbage” he’s not saying the horse should be sent to the killer sale, he’s saying the horse is not top quality with the athleticism needed to win at the highest level. It’s a lot easier to say “garbage” than “the horse is not top quality with the athleticism needed to win at the highest level.”
