Bob Hurley Sr. is more of a legend off the court than he is on it. Ask anyone who knows him and that’s what they’ll say. 26 state championships and 4 national championships will never be replicated again in HS basketball, but even more so, no one will ever come close to the impact he alone had on Jersey City. Basketball fans of the northeast have a lot to thank him for. Singlehandedly preserved the blue collar, grind-harder culture that the east coast basketball scene made its name on. It’s unfortunate he doesn’t get more recognition nationally. No one has donated more time and energy to his city for this sport than Bob Hurley Sr. Legend.

I think this guy is going to be one of the best ever. May already be. He has that kind of intensity and presence you see from coaches like Saban or Lombardi where you get the sense that it’s less sport for them and more like religion or war. Pair that with a sharp mind for logistics and Xs & Os and you’re looking at someone who’s going to rip the faces off people he’s up against.

Coach Hurley is an amazing coach. I think that goes without saying. I’ve been coached by guys like this and (admittedly) it rubbed off on me. 😂🤷🏿The problem with these videos is there is a 6th grade basketball coach who hasn’t played since he was in junior high who is gonna see this and be like “that is how I am gonna coach my team”. 🤦🏿🤦🏿 There are very few players today (outside of the top college programs) who respond well to this style of coaching)

It works because UConn is winning. There are other college coaches who are just as obsessive as Hurley, but they're not winning nearly as much. On those programs, the players hate the coaches.

I don’t know if the other coaches do it as well but Hurley is also good at bonding and then building them up during a game. He specifically talks about it. And while not ground breaking psychology often times the connection with the team or coach is.

Yep! Which is why this style doesn’t last long term. Most top players don’t wanna be coached like this. However, if I was a great high school player I would want a coach like this because I’d be trying to get to the league. Best believe these type of coaches will coach all this bad habits out of you. 😂

If you win the championship, there shouldn’t be any complaints. Winning is hard, practice hard so the games will be easier. Hustle is talent. The only people complaining about him being hard on his players are soft. Soft people soft coaches lose. The real world is hard, and it ain’t easy. This is a good lesson

It's true that his intensity and attention to detail is second to none. However, his ass-chewing antics, and constant bitching would not go well if they had lost in the past 2 NCAA TOURNEYS. And theres the rub. Without his relentless pushing/coaching one could argue they wouldn't have reached the level they have. You put up with a lot when you're winning. He's old-school tough.

I really don’t think it’s about that. it’s about growing and playing the game you love in my personal opinion. There’s no doubt he’s a great coach and I have all the respect for him, but I feel like his methods I disagree with. again.
