I see it more as being grand and epic, yet tense and foreboding. It's the endgame and you can see the full scope of what humanity has accomplished, and either you're about to push forward into a new era of unity and prosperity through diplomacy, culture and space exploration or watch everything burn in the nuclear hellfire. The music always reflected how high the stakes were and that's why I loved the modern era music in this game.

Whenever I come here to listen to this track I also look for this particular comment and read it again to enjoy how accurate it is.

There's this kind of anxiety to all of the Modern tracks of CIV. Don't know if it's symptomatic of modern classical in general, but damn does it fit the game at that point. Suddenly you have access to nukes, and you better pray you get them before your enemies.

given that john adams was like a boomer age new yorker this is certainly meant more to be representative of that urban, high iq/high income ceaseless stress. like all music, i imagine that john adams and phillip glass +the likes can convey certain truths that we all know in vastly different ways. I don't like to listen to the modern tracks very much but they have a unique depth to them.

Minimalism is basically that: To mimic the woes of the modern world. Were in a great momment of our spectrum, but the responsibilities are astronomical. One mistake and goodbye Earth

@@stoopid6036 Adams is really a West Coast guy in musical terms - he left New Hampshire in his 20s, and this part of Harmonielehre is actually about San Francisco. But it fits very well for Civ 4

The Industrial Era music is excited and passionate, and brings to mind a world of rapid development and opportunity. Then the Modern Age rolls around. Everything's been explored. All technologies have been discovered. All the buildings have been built, all the land settled, and the music is just plain depressing. Plus, at 0:39 to 0:43 it sounds like the beeping when someon's unbuckled while the car's running.

You're either about to win, or about to lose. The music is perfect for it.

This piece certainly evokes for me a massive nuclear launch, the hellish aftermath, and the rebuilding that follows...

Whenever I hear this, I think of the Liechtensteiners (Using the APH mod, I just cut and paste it) in 2004 in the Space Age, nearly everyone is gone except for Rome.
