Hey Chris, friend of mine had his great grandpa get himself hanged in Bannack. It was indeed Henry Plummer, the infamous sheriff. He & I both live in Utah btw. He's in the southern part, I'm just south of Salty. Henry was a young man with a wife & family but had a complicated past. He'd had troubles in the mining district of California if I recall correctly (also as a lawman). My own great grandpa was a blacksmith most of his life, but was asked to serve as sheriff for a very short while when he was living in Dodge City Kansas in the 1870's and '80's. Don't know why he didn't stick with it long, but I suspect great Grandma Julia may have had something to do with it! Loved your video and enjoyed the quiet of it all. We see these old places through rose colored glasses. But they were tough, hard places to live & make a living. Worked in too many oil fields to think otherwise. Be safe, God bless and take good care. 😊

As I’ve mentioned, Chris, I’ve lived in Helena for 66 years. So glad to have found this video with Elkhorn. Brings back memories of visiting Elkhorn as a child when my parents would bring visitors to see a real “ghost town”. The other thing I’m loving about your videos is the facts you share are familiar from my high school years and the Vigilante Parade that has been a tradition in Helena forever. High schoolers make floats of historic places and events in Montana. Thank you for all your work to preserve and share the history of Montana! ❤

Native Montanan and live in Townsend, about 30 miles southeast of Helena. I've been to all the ghost towns except Garnet. Love to visit these towns as both my grandfathers were brought to Montana by the mines. My paternal grandfather lived in a small ghost town to the west of Townsend called Hassel, about 10 miles up Indian Creek. All that's really left there is the old hotel. Great video.

Thank you so much for presenting me these videos of ghost towns of Montana. I am watching these from Vahto Finland. My late brother Tapio went to highschool in Helena his senior year, probably between 1971-1972 as a foreign exchange student. He stayed with his host family Lilan and Eskil Seastrom. He told me a lot of stories of people and friends. He had great time there. He also visited some ghost towns. Unfortunately I cannot remember which. I miss him so much and the videos you make enable me to relive the feelings I had when we spoke about his year in the US. I often think it would be great to contact some of his friends there and be able to speak to some his friends, mayby hear stories of him. Anyhow I much appreciate your tranquil and serene videos and beautiful landscapes of an era long bygone.

British person here. Year before last I did a road trip with the family and as I have a house in Nebraska and love the great plains and the mountain states because they are so different to the UK and Isle of Man where I live at the moment. I was desperate to see at least one ghost town whilst in the US so we visited Granite MT. Loved it. I've visited 98 countries and territories and in the US I'm up to 23 States. We flew into Idaho via Nebraska from the UK, through Yellowstone, up to Bozeman, then Glacier, crossed the border into Canada to Cranbrook, then back through the Idaho panhandle to Spokane, then down to Hall Mt (where the Ghost town was) across to Buffalo WY, then Devils Tower, Custer State Park SD, then past Carhenge NE down to Scottsbluff Ne and finally Boulder Co. Loved it all except Boulder.
