I'm new to your channel and researching grinding wheat for bread. I'm looking forward to trying your bread recipe. I also live in Florida and grew up on peas. We'd pick, shell, blanch, and freeze them for the year. We call them conc peas. Zipper creams, black eyes, and pink eyes are some more favorites. I grew up with mama cooking them with bacon but now I cook them in my instant pot on manual for 1 min and let it slowly release pressure seasoned with salt, pepper, chicken bullion, and a garlic/onion seasoning blend. So delicious. 😋

You gave me some great ideas for the venison. Loved this type of video! My mom always stocked up on things and froze them, so that is the way I do bread. Cook, slice, freeze until needed. I recently learned that freezing bread lowers its glycemic index by up to 39%. So good news for my family members with diabetes!

Wow really?!? I wonder how that lowers the glycemic index level for bread?? Interesting!

I felt the same way when I heard it. I searched it and found the published results of a study. It changes the starches somehow. They did store bought and homemade (dead flour tho). They did frozen and thawed, and frozen, thawed, and then toasted. Toasting lowers it too, but not as much. The highest was frozen then toasted. Good news in my view!@@GrainsandGrit

We call those peas cream 40’s. Those are my absolute favorite but we don’t grow them because shelling them is a nightmare and no one wants to help me 😂 so we grow zipper pea instead

It’s just my husband and I, so when I make three loaves of bread, once it’s cooled, I slice it all, and freeze most of it. I only keep out 6 slices at a time. It’s easy to get more out of the bag as I need it. Yes, I have also frozen cinnamon rolls. I make a batch of sourdough pancakes and freeze them by putting waxed paper between them. Then when we want them, I pull out four and set them in the toaster for five minutes to thaw slightly, then toast them. Two cakes each are enough for us at a meal. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing recipes.

When I freeze my loaves of bread, un-cut. I put in my plastic bread bag the top the loaf with a large peice of papertowel, this will absorb any moisture when it thaws. my loaves (your basic 3 loaves recipe) i loaf last 1 week on my table. I freeze the other 2 unless I'm gifing it. I love your bread recipe the best online! I also use the USA Pans Thank you

I really enjoy your videos. When I cook peas or butter beans I always add smoked paprika. I always freeze my bread In slices and put in ziplock and pull out what I need for a day or two and put in another zip lock on the counter. It's just as soft as fresh baked.

Ooo smoked paprika!!! I’m going to have to try that. I’m so thankful for all these comments about how well bread freezes, because it makes me nervous to do that lol I don’t know why.

I've been making bread for a long time. I also have a Bosch Mixer for the last 11 years & just love it. I always make 4 to 5 loaves & freeze them unsliced. I recently got the USA hotdog bun pan & it made the buns so much nicer. Most of my bread nowadays is sourdough. I put the loaves in heavy plastic bread bags to freeze. With hamburger &hotdog buns then I wrap each separately & then put in bread bag. Bread is always fresh, even if in there for several months. I always like to see your video on Friday.

Hi, I really like this type of video. The tips the pop up randomly are often nuggets of gold. Thank you. I enjoyed it. As for the way I freeze bread from freshly milled flour…I do it the same way I did before. I always make rolls or tweibach as we call them, not loaves. For me it’s just easier to use and thaw. We make them more like hamburger buns where the sides aren’t touching like rolls do. Then I put them in ziploc bags, freeze them, in the morning I will take out only as much as we need for breakfast, put them in the toaster oven at 200 for 5 minutes, leave them in there another 5 and you’re good to go. I much prefer them this way than leaving them on the counter. Like this they get just a hint of crisp on the outside while the insides stay soft. Whatever doesn’t get eaten goes back in the freezer for the next day. This way I bake bread about once a week, quadruple recipe for my family of 7.

Do you have a way to make steel cut oats too? Those are our favorites!
@GrainsandGrit

I haven’t done it because my family doesn’t like steel cut ha but if I were to do it, I think I would just put oat groats in a food processor and pulse until they’re the right size. Just a gut feeling 😀

I make few loaves of bread in advance slice every loaf, and then freeze them in freezer bags. When I need one, I just put it in the fridge to thaw the day before and it’s ready next day. So far a total success! No problems at all. I do the same with pancakes, waffles and muffins but for those I do individually wrapping and then I put them in a big bags and to the freezer they go! 😊

Where do you buy your instant yeast?
@GrainsandGrit

Many places. Sam’s Club had the Fleischman brand, but for the past year I usually just place a large stock up order of SAF yeast from Pleasant Hill Grain. You can find them here: www.grainsandgrit.com/phg

@@GrainsandGrit thank you! I will check my Costco. Also, I made the venison nuggets for dinner last night and my husband couldn't stop talking about how good they were! 2/4 of my kids enjoyed them but that's fairly typical for most meals! Do you reuse your fry oil? We used beef tallow

You can also roll barley! I've never tried wheat berries but probably those as well. And I got mine from Pleasant Hill Grain! Do know this is only for the Bosch Universal Plus. They have different ones for the Ank and other mixers. www.gopjn.com/t/8-12416-251836-206096?sid=&url=https%3A%2F%2Fpleasanthillgrain.com%2Fflaker-for-bosch-univ

Looks like a delicious meal! I love southern peas and grow them every year. I like to keep a batch of Paula Dean's house seasoning mixed up and use it in everything. ( salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder). I do like freezing my bread. It's just like fresh when you thaw it. I cool completely, wrap in plastic, and pop in a ziploc. I prefer freezing it whole. I love your content! I can still learn new things even when I've been at this a long time! Lord bless! ❤
