I bought the Artiste after I saw yours. I just got the black Bosch, always loved this brand. I bought my mom, over 20yrs back, an Ankarsrum; found out, not long ago, that she never used it, so I have that too.

I’m on team Bosch and have been for 20 years. My mom raised us on fresh milled flour and had an old wooden magic mill in the 1970s. She and my 5 older sisters had Bosch mixers and gifted me my first one. My son now has that one and I have another one. Many of my extended family members have the old style Bosch mixers from the 70s and 80s that work like new still. We are a large family of bread bakers and all mill our own grains. Love your channel. Love your recipes too!

I have a Nurtimill mixer and am happy with it. I do use the Family Mill Flaker for Bosch with the Artiste, which is great! The Artiste has footpads on the side for turning it sideways for the flaker - just like with the Bosch- but the Artiste must be propped up when using the flaker because it doesn’t has the round blender part on the back like the Bosch does. I only make 1 loaf of bread at a time and rarely ever make cookies, etc. I also already have a food processor, ice cream maker and more, so Bosch is just overkill for me. Thank you for the comparison!

I have had a BOSCH since the early 90s. It is still going strong. i used to decorate cakes and I could use 4 pounds of powdered sugar to make icing. It would have probably tolerated more than 4 pounds. I have always used it to make bread and it is so simple and it does the job. I would not be without it. Mine says it has 700 WATTS . It only has 3 speeds.. Mine came with a blender. It will crush ice to powder. It is an amazing machine. Glad to see they still make quality products. If mine quit today, I could not complain and would definitely invest in another! Thanks for sharing your insight. I do notice that my drive does not just screw out. You have to use an actual screw driver. Mine also has an insert that goes around the drive where you place the dough hooks. But basically it is the same machine. Now what my 700 Watts is compared to the info you shared, I cannot say. I just know that it moves and kneads and makes bread making very simple and consistent!

Ah yes, there are many different models of the KA. The key things you need to look at are the motor and the dough capacity. For the first several years, I had a regular stand mixer and it worked well for ONE loaf of bread. Then the motor eventually gave up the ghost and I needed something that could make more than one loaf anyway. I do believe that the heaviness of the dough wore out the motor much faster. For those with a commercial KA, they're probably good. But if you have a smaller one it's possible that making bread with FMF is fine, but it may wear out the motor sooner because of the heaviness of the dough. Also, if you're wanting to make large amounts at once, that can be an issue too. Honestly, work with what you have. Then figure out what you are wanting out of a mixer and choose then!

We have had the Bosch mixer for about a year now. I love it, except for one thing. I wish we had never used the "scraper attachment". It works great but it wears on the center column and I feel like maybe we are getting a little bit of plastic in our food. I ordered and just got the stainless steel bowl ($150 with $20 discount thank you Grains & Grit) thinking I would eliminate that plastic center column. But the stainless steel bowl also has a plastic center column. We will keep the stainless steel bowl but we've decided we just won't use the "scraper attachment". I'm not saying don't buy the Bosch, I'm just saying don't use the scraper attachment. I really LOVE the mixer!

I'm new here. Why can't a stand mixer work with home milled grains? Thanks.
@epluribusunum1978Күн бұрын
Because bread dough is rough on normal tilt-head and bowl life stand mixers. As bread dough needs to be kneaded for 8 to 20 minutes (or longer, depending on the type), this can burn out most stand mixers. The Ankarsrum, Bosch, Nutrimill mixers have the bottom-based motor and the strength to properly knead dough and in much shorter time. Thick batters and doughs push regular stand mixers to their limits. It's not that regular top-based stand mixer can't mix bread dough, it's that it can wear the inner gears quicker because of the top motor force and speed. Hope this helps.

@@GrainsandGrit Felicia, once you get the Ankarsrum, it may supplant your Bosch as your bread-making mixer. There is NOTHING like the Ankarsrum. I have one and love it. Once you see how the dough roller works, you're hooked. It's amazing! There is a slight learning curve, but there are numerous videos on YT to show you what to do. I watched them and had no trouble at all the firs time I used it. The Ankarsrum is worth EVERY penny. Plus their customer service is second to none.

My problem with the Bosch is the plastic. It breaks. The middle column has those, I don't know what you call them, the fluted top, those can chip off. My cake paddles became useless the second time I used them because of that. The scraper attachment which is very nice when you're mixing cakes also broke very early on. I love it for bread. I love the lid. I still make cakes , I just use the wire whip attachment. I use the cookie paddles although one of them doesn't spin like it should. I love being able to look down into the bowl. The mixer is a work horse for sure. But I don't like the plastic.

Felicia, great video for those seeking these types of mixers, however, can we dispense with the KA just doesn’t cut it when using fresh milled whole grain flour nonsense? As with any mixer the horsepower & dough capacity matters and just as the Artiste does not & cannot perform as the Bosch for these reasons, neither can one compare a 4.5/5 qt standard KA with one like mine, the 8qt commercial bowl lift KA that handles fresh milled whole grain bread dough beautifully. Just sayin’, can we at least keep things in perspective & especially with honesty & integrity?
@wendyshine85482 күн бұрын
My daughter large kitchen aid like yours just bit the dust trying to mill fresh ground 3 loaves.
@GrainsandGrit2 күн бұрын
That KA 8 quart commercial bowl probably can handle it well. It's for commercial uses. But , from my Google research, it is WAY more expensive than the Bosch, Artiste, and even the Ankarskrum. When I mention the KA not handling dough well, I'm talking about the typical KA mixers most people have. I can make dough in it, yes, but most of the models don't have a strong enough motor and it's going to wear it out faster and I can't make the large amounts like in my Bosch.
@epluribusunum1978Күн бұрын
@@GrainsandGrit Very true about the cost of the KA Commercial 8. They raised the price, in April, an extra $150 for both models (one with a safety cage and the one without). I was able to get mine (no cage) for well under $700, but I won't use it for bread dough. I make 2 13 inch Pullman loaves and use only the Ankarsrum for it. I'd kill the Comm 8 otherwise. The 8 is great for everything else, though.

I have a KA 6qt, stripped the worm gear very quickly, husband replaced the gear, it’s not that hard to do but I bought an Ank for my heavy bread dough and it’s fabulous. However for making cakes and other things with batter rather than dough I still love the KA. A commercial KA is a beast, too heavy to move it unless it’s on a cart.
