@@MrMixer316 what makes it sad is that some of these negative reviewers are supposedly experts when it comes to cooking and related fields like ATK. I have a Kitchen Aid artisan I inherited from my dad, it’s around 35 or so years old, tilt-head with the spring pin, and is a dark/navy blue, the thing still works without skipping a beat, it hasn’t burned out because it’s not continuously running the whole time I’m baking, it’s well taken care off and stored in a place where it doesn’t get hot or wet when I’m not using it and I can make bread as long as it’s light dough and single serving size only. If I need more than that or for heavy breads I’ll just go the store and buy a loaf or the dough already done by the in-store bakery. Half of these people take the user’s manuals that come with their kitchen aid mixers as “arbitrary suggestions” and ignore them and call it a pice of trash when the inevitable does occur.

@@MrMixer316that I can kind of understand the confusion especially since some variance of the k5ss were sold for commercial use in mind and they do look like a miniature version of the commercial machine. My favourite is my "classic" tilt head, because that was a present from my late wife and using it always brings up memories. Love your videos. There is one thing that puzzles me a little - you say that you see rarely damage to the metal gears. I have fixed a lot less of the things than you have (dozens rather than thousands), but at least a third of them had gear damage (some of them even with the nylon gear intact), usually on the "beveled" upper part of the main gear (I think this what drives the attachment gear). What those machines had in common was that the grease had separated, with the oily part leaking out (and obviously that they were all sold in Europe). So even if it's rare, that gears break at all is a good reminder of how important it is to re-grease your machine from time to time.

I just purchased a refurbished RKSM55CU "direct" from KitchenAid. It has been my wish for 10 years+ to finally buy one of these mixers. Something tells me it will likely be coming from your shop as you seem like an outsource for Whirlpool. If so, could you toss in a scrapper. Calibration with a dime is a nice tip. Should we ever try to spin an unpowered attachment by hand? Bread dough is going to be my primary use so i am happy to see that i choose the better model.

This was a great video and seems like you know these mixers very well. One point I disagree with however is capacity between the Artisan and k5ss. Although the bowls are the same size; the attachments for the k5 are larger and come up higher in the bowl therefore give approximately 1 quart more "usable capacity" than the Artisan. I purchased my k-5ss new in 1982, have used it at least several times a week ever since for cakes, icings, cookies, breads, meatball and meatloaf mix, mashed potatoes etc. I also have the meat grinder and slicer shredder attachments which also get used regularly. Everything has held up beautifully! Only service it has ever received were a new worm gear and carbon brushes in 2003.

Even kneading for 20 min at a time. That being said, I have recently purchased a new tilt head KA mixer for small jobs where cold butter needs to be creamed etc as the Ankarsrum is not the best choice and specifically states to NOT use cold butter. I just ordered a couple of your exclusive add-ons for the new KA on your website.

The best home mixer is an Ankarsrum. Solves all the issues of the KA.
@kappadappa Жыл бұрын
Ankarsrum is great but fails at incorporating cold butter into dough. It also has many more parts to swap out and clean, and the beater system is not as straightforward as KitchenAid for making cake batter or cookie dough. And the plastic mixing bowl isn't recommended to make things like Swiss meringue. Ankarsrum can definitely handle bread dough more easily. They both have pros and cons but neither is perfect.
@carolez8582 Жыл бұрын
@@kappadappa you can get a metal mixing bowl. For me, and I make a lot of shokupan, the cold butter isn’t an issue. I either take it out in the morning or put it in a my oven 9n proof for a few minutes. There are only two parts plus the bowl to clean and it’s way easier than the KA I have. The beater system is straightforward and I haven’t had any issues with it. Whips for frothy things like egg whites, etc, and the beaters for the rest. I’ve had KA mixers for 45+ years, including the top end Professional model. I wish I’d changed to the Ank sooner. The only thing I’m saving my old KA for is I have a Mockmill grinder attachment to make my own flour and I don’t want to have to buy a standalone one to replace it. I also love not worrying about what didn’t get mixed in properly at the bottom of the bowl. Never happens with the Ank. Also no spraying of flour when it’s added to the mixture.
@kappadappa Жыл бұрын
@@carolez8582 I make shokupan often too, but that's not cold butter. Cold butter would be more like pie dough, which the Ankarsrum can't do. And sure, you can get a metal bowl but that's an additional cost/part. Like I said, they're both great, and both have plusses and minuses. When I was replacing my 21 year old KitchenAid I did a ton of research and seriously considered the Ankarsrum. But since I make far more pastry/meringue/genoise than heavy bread dough the KitchenAid Proline 7 made more sense for me. If I mainly made bread then I would have gone with the Ankarsrum. Enjoy!

One thing you missed, about height preference. When measuring cabinet height, be aware of how much room is needed for when you have to tilt the head back.

This is the video I was looking for. All these other 'comparison' videos out there don't look inside the machines, which is all that matters.

I have a K4SS and a KSM50P. Trying to decide which to keep. The K4 was made by Hobart. Your opinion?
@MrMixer316Ай бұрын
They're essentially the same machine, so I'd go with Hobart with the 5qt bowl on the KSM50 personally 👍

I burned out 2 mixers (not Kitchen Aid) making gingerbread cookie dough. Then the wife brought home a brand new K5SS. I said, "Why on earth did you buy the worlds most expensive mixer"? Well I made gingerbread dough with it, awesome! Now 25, or more, years later...am I ever glad she brought it home. Lots of pasta made with rollers and pasta press attachments. I'm certain it paid for itself about 20 years ago. She paid $169 CDN at Sears.

Between the Hobart kitchen aid k45ss and the Artisan which one would be better for just normal use?

The Hobart, you lose a measly half qt of capacity, but it's definitely more reliable in the long run

What’s your thoughts about 6.6L Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer KSM70 and does it have DC motor?
@karinamorenocandydesigner87978 ай бұрын
Hi, great video, please, could you tell me the difference about deluxe edition vs architect edition? I live in another country and my friend is bringing this two for me and I don’t know which one to choose
@MrMixer3168 ай бұрын
Those are both tilt head models and the only difference really is that the deluxe will come with a 4.5qt bowl and the architect with a 5qt bowl. Otherwise theh are the same motor/trans/electronics etc..

Thanks for the great comparison and explicit details. I leave in Europe and have to choose between 5KSM70JPXEER or 5KSM70SHXEER, I've looked at the specs and the motor seems to be the same - 375 Watt for both. Why is then the ...70JP....version a Heavy Duty, what are the differences excepting the accesories which are better (stainless steel) on the ...70SH... version ? Thank You.

Any thoughts on the Mini model with DC motor?
@MrMixer3163 ай бұрын
@@McMaxW they aren't bad, smaller capacity but that encourages people not to overlaid them whcib is good. Strong motor, I don't see many of them in my area as people Tend to opt for the larger sizes. It hasn't been announced but I've heard reports that they will be discontinued in 2026

I brought my older mixers back to life, because of your videos, thank you! I also (thanks to you) change the grease annually, or on any new mixer I purchase. Do you have a video on greasing the ksm70sk? I know replacing single parts is a no-go on these models, but can they be greased like any other Kitchenaid mixer?

Do you guys pin the shaft of the pro 600? Why or why not? Also which model is the spring and washer sourced from for use on the Pro 600?
@MrMixer3167 ай бұрын
We do not but it's technically possible! It's just easier to replace unfortunately. We spec and manufacture all of our own springs and washers, we have two options, the quick Install or the traditional install that requires disassembly.

So if my 600 pro smelled like it was burning and got hot the last time I did dough in it, was it just grease? It still works, but I’m afraid of damaging it further and haven’t used it.

It could definitely benefit from a regrease maybe consider a lighter load or slightly less mix time!

Thanks so much for your videos! I just got a 6-quart bowl lift mixer that had a previous life in manufacturing, but with a little maintenance it is running again. You said that the 6-quart bowl will go on the 7-quart mixer, so then I assume I could go the other way around? Or would the 7-quart not fit on the smaller mixer?
@MrMixer31611 ай бұрын
Yes they both work interchangeably, my one suggestion is to not overload it, just because it will be able to hold more, does not mean that it can handle more!
@paperandpasteboard129811 ай бұрын
@@MrMixer316 Thanks! I will try to be careful with it. My Artisan can't really handle some of the baking I want to do, so I'm excited to work with something larger. I'll see if I can find a 7-quart bowl for making frostings or batters, but not for bread doughs.
