This is really Amasing to see! ive grown up climbing mountains in the Sierras with my father and family friends, i finished the John Muir Trail climbing Mt Whitney in 2019. After all the 221 miles i completed,and the beautiful scenery ive seen,it never occured to me to shoot any film there. ive been collecting cameras for a little over 3 years and all my childhood nostalgia has been backpacking in the great mountains, this truly made me happy to see one of my favorite photographers strolling around, walking to places that ive been before, and taking incredible photos where i grew up, Thank you

Man, your cinestill shots are the nuts. I’ve always been put off the the red highlights but that pro mist really does the trick. Great video (again), i can’t imagine how long this kind of video takes to put together
@randallstewart1754 жыл бұрын
For those who may care, the light leaks on the 120 rolls he mentions are caused by inadequate tension on the paper leader at loading, which allows the initial leader to wrap the spool loosely. In turn this causes the film's diameter on the takeup spool to be too large, extending beyond the light protection of the spool ends. The solution is to put some pressure with your thumb on the new film roll when first winding on the leader, keeping it tight. My Pentax 67 has the same potential problem. Basically, the camera's tension on the film supply spool is inadequate.

I found mixing spools from different film brands in the Mamiya 7 sometimes contributed to the light leak issue. I mean using a Fuji spool to take up Kodak film or vice versa (or it could be changing film in direct sunlight). Also, I was very disappointed you didn’t shoot the abandoned buildings portion with cold neg film. 😢 but I’m jealous of the Arca Cube on your tripod.

if you watch any TV you'll see that same abandoned house (16:20) in a commercial for some real estate company....it's an older picture of the house, with much of the green roofing still on top. I took a picture of that same house back in 2010 or 2011and it's hanging on my wall. The house is fading fast when compared to a few years ago, a natural process. Enjoying your videos.

Can someone answer why if you are digitally uploading negatives and adding color digitally esentially making your photos digital; why not just stick with a digital camera and find a filter to give you the look of "film" if thats what you are looking for. Or is it just to be retro?

So when you shoot Portra 400 at 160 to get that overexposed book, do you also give the lab special instructions, or do you just hand it over as if you shot it at box speed and have them develop it normally? The push/pull thing is so confusing! And I know some labs don't actually push color film, or something? So many variables...

Your blend 'of not in a rush' slightly cynical but charming narrative in stand-up comic style, range of beautiful country (this one maybe takes the cake) and abandoned buildings for subjects continues to intrigue as well as being clearly in the do film or die culture is fabulous! Keep up the great work and making pictures Jason!

2:04 if you really want more grainy contrast, try shooting Delta 400 at 800 with an orange or red filter. It looks gorgeous and is more gritty than HP5. As for your film lab, you might want to give North Coast Photo in Carlsbad a try! They're real quick, have good prices, and make excellent scans. The Portra 400 scans you got look very washed out.
