The complete spelling and plagiarism checker REVIEW.
Let's start by, this is the first in my playlist series of Apps to make your life easier. First up, Grammarly premium, known as the best English grammar checker and plagiarism checkers on the planet. I've been using Grammarly for three years now, and it's helped my grammar, and spelling tremendously at college, university and work.
I personally claimed this Grammarly as a tax expense as I use it for work all the time.
Short story, I recently found out I was dyslexic, so I was searching for applications to help me. Grammarly was that application, it's quite literally a job saver especially working in communications.
If you have a child struggling or know a colleague who is struggling with emails. Honestly, don't hesitate and give it to them as a secret gift! It's worth it.
I'll be creating more application videos soon so make sure to subscribe.
P.S. If you think I should use and review any applications that will help people, let me know in the comments, and I'll check it out.

I elieve Grammarly is great for formal English, like if you're writing a term papers, a business proposal, desitation etc. But it will destroy your fiction prose voice. In novel writing, it'll suffice only as a typo misspellings.

The main problem with Grammarly is it KILLS personal style. There's no "quick" way to learn style AND grammar/punctuation, etc. I used Grammarly to assist me with proofreading a college grad student's term papers and I ditched it.

What interests me is the implications for the philosophy of language. Isn't language is supposed to be defined by the people using it, and not by an algorithm? If I want to be creative in the way I write, should I not be allowed to?

Hey Jenny! I'm a technical writer and freelance translator myself and I'm considering the tool. The thing is, I gave it a try several years ago and found that most of the corrections it'd propose me were false positives, and most of them were about passive voice. I wonder if there have been any improvement since the last year, or wether it's the subscription that turns the software from annoying to actually useful? I'd appreciate an input from somebody in the field, thanks.
@downwired
@downwired 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander! I would have to say the passive voice suggestions come up way too often, indeed. Having a paying subscription gives you access to personalized correction ''styles'' if I can put it this way. Selecting ''academic'' when revising or writing a paper tends to get rid of most of the passive/active voice comments but they still remain. Overall, it is a well-designed software for basic correction (god knows we can't see everything, even with a meticulous revision) but I find myself looking up proper terminologies more often in online translation memory banks or lexicology forums. Cheers!

LouisPee, as a dyslexic, have you used the voice input function to get the ideas into text form at the speed at which you can think? I use it extensively for writing and so do some family members and students that I've shown it to.

@traveljapansakura1816
@traveljapansakura1816 5 жыл бұрын
LouisPee Basically, you turn on voice input on either android or iPhone/iOS. A microphone will appear on the keyboard near the space bar. Then you dictate whatever you want to say at natural speed. The quality of the input will go up every time you do it. Mine matches to about 99% of what I’m saying in real-time. You can give it instructions like, full stop, new line, comma, question mark, exclamation mark, open quotes , close quotes. If you are using Grammarly it will take a bit longer to process your input, or you might get some curious interpretations of what you’ve said. It’s very efficient for writing.

All grammar checkers are crutch for understanding. The short & long of "understanding" are critical. The use of any grammar checker is a Faustian Bargain. Written communication is an acquisition. Any KSA is an acquisition and all acquisitions are valued. The simple accounting equation can be used to illustrate the concept. Just as negotiations have much to do with value, the artsy side of written communication has much to do with value. I cannot stress enough the "deal making" with oneself. "Life is too short to not be cool." - Grandpa "Life is too long if too hot." - Grandson "Careful as we will, careful as we go." - Grandpa "All media exist to invest our lives with artificial perceptions and arbitrary values." - Marshall McLuhan New World Man - RUSH

More importantly, if they were to use a grammar checker, would they trust the "someone looking over your shoulder"? THIS IS WHAT mick hanks 1 month ago I want to use Grammarly but gosh does it have problems. 1, Grammarly, Firefox, and KZbin don’t play well together. 2, Grammarly really slows down when typing in KZbin. Many time I have to turn Grammarly off to add and post in You Tube. 3, Grammarly drops the whole section of your comments when posting to KZbin. 4, Grammarly doesn’t preserve pagination mark up, like returns when cutting and pasting. 5, Grammarly proof markings are not registered to the word. The red line can be 3 words off in position. 6, Grammarly does not see the end of You Tube and facebook comment field and will not auto return to a new line. 7, Grammarly’s line leading is off. I love the correction Grammarly makes for spelling and structure but the interaction with the browser is, inconsistent, buggy, slow, and has costed me to rewrite whole paragraphs due to loss. SAID. WOULD I WANT TO EVEN TRY GRAMMARLY..? "NO".

In the End, the Human eye and Conscious Attention, still has to see all red lines or underlined or highlighted words to manually respell, and their eyes miss the underlined words almost as easily as they do the badly spelled ones in the first place I wonder if the word 'Grammarly' gets a red line under it in Grammarly? Because it is not a real word. Even Firefox spellchecked this comment for me.. for free.. screw Grammarly. Grammarly isn't even a real word. Also, we have UK and US English (plus some other forms such as Canadian, New Zealand etc), which, when pasting the article after writing in Grammarly into a browser or text editor, or blog such as blogspot or wordpress, will then ruin it, as it might be in US English, UK English, and register as badly spelled. As an author, i have to say this is a load of crap. because i write in UK AND US English, and apart from that, everything has a spellchecker and grammar checker these days, even wordpress editor, my own windows 10 OS in all apps, and that doesn't help either. Only way is to slowly read and check yourself, and know your grammar, instead of being a dumbo trying to write. Leave it to professionals. Professionals don't need Grammarly. If i write in English UK then paste the post into Blogger Blogpost, it is full of 'spelling mistakes' because Blogger assumes US English (Theatre not Theater, etc). Some of my wordpress blogs are UK English, some are US English, so the spellcheckers are bull-crap. PAY for grammar spellchecks? Hahahaha no way! Don't waste your money on subscription services, or the plethora of apps that offer to do things your own built-in Windows or Mac OS can do inherently (e.g. batch resize images, spellcheck, rotate images, encode videos... make slideshow videos.. all possible without extra software). - by the way, the herte is an example of why Grammarly and the rest of spellcheckers don't work; The example of the word 'takedowns' in Grammarly, says exactly the same as all other spellcheckers (suggests 'take down' or 'take-downs', neither of which are better or more correct grammatically than 'Takedowns'). This App is 'Paid Crap for Americans' I get sick of spellcheckers trying to write for me when i use words their dictionaries don;t have (e.g. Luang Por, Wat, Lersi, Yant, Pong Prai Kumarn etc.. Anglicised Thai word.. you know, like 'Deja-Vu???? And to make another point, the 4 ? question marks i just used in a row (????) and my liking to use dots (........) to suggest vocal pauses (comic story telling style), does not allow an app like Grammarly to work for me. Same as dictation apps.. "I don't like you period" in US English becomes "I don't Like You." whereas in UK English, dictated, it still says "I don't like you period" ( The word 'period' in USA, means a 'Full Stop in UK, meaning the black dot at the end of every sentence).

Thanks for commenting on my Grammarly review vid. What do you think of using Grammarly for things like spell checkers and plagiarism?

@@LouisPetrides - the comment was a joke. the oriental guy in the ad pronounces the word 'grammarly' as 'grammary'. thought it was amusing.

This does not improve your writing. You cannot learn to write better if youre relying on an app to do it for you.

It does actually. It gives you amazing suggestions for alternate words to use in specific situations. There is a lot of AI involved with it and it's very powerful for someone with Dyslexia.
