Thanks. Finally, an honest and thorough review! I've had Grammarly Premium for an entire year, and the only thing it catches are commas. Everything I write has a score of 99, which is impossible because I'm in desperate need of the grammar police, and I know it.

Thank you for the review, I have been using PWA for a few weeks now, I am loving it. People keep saying why don't you try Grammarly, I was considering it. As a writer, we can never have enough help in adventures. After watching your video, I am so happy and content that I chose PWA. Thank you for verifying my decision as a smart valid choice.

I don't use either of these but write and revise letters that I send via " Snail mail " endlessly until the words flow and my thoughts are put onto paper so that the reader can feel , see , taste and smell what I am experiencing . It takes time and is SLOW . I've 4 books in my head that have never been written because it's such a daunting task .... do you have any words of wisdom for me ? This is a serious request as you are so far past my pathetic attempts ! You ROCK in my book ! Many thanks , Carol E. - Brooks Equine.
@DavidBadurina
@DavidBadurina 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carol! Thanks for the compliment! And yes I imagine that is a slow process! As for advice .. what works for me is a little bit of planning, and a little bit of free play. If you have a character in mind that you'd like to write - describe them. Then write some quotations down, things you know they would say, that really does speak to who they are. Do that with a couple of characters in the story. Nothing fancy. A few lines. Then write a scene with two of them together, arguing over something, or sharing something about themselves. Then maybe a little bit of planning - the story takes place in XYZ locations, a little bit about those. The plot centers around ABC, etc. Before you know it, you've got a loose map of the story, some characters ready to speak to you, and maybe just maybe you'll be able to get it down on the page! :-)

Thanks to you and CS Joseph I’m writing again. And, started my first novel. I was born to write. Maybe all INFJs should be writers. I just hate writing things that don’t interest me and that is a problem if someone is paying you to write.
@DavidBadurina
@DavidBadurina 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you are writing again! Woohoo! And starting the first novel is excellent! There are an abundance of INFJ writers, we're good in our heads and with those words and often the world we are in is very real to us. Sadly, all of the OTHER INFJ traits come into play too - feeling insecure, imposter syndrome, all that nonsense. Just keep moving forward on it. And I hear you on the "Writing uninteresting things" - that can be a drag just like any uninteresting job for an INFJ can be a drag too. If you do end up writing articles for cash about such topics like "The Emotional Magnitude of Granite" or "How to Crochet Doilies - The Unabridged Version", just remember that somewhere you are making SOMEONE happy. ;-)

David, I’m still laughing and will be for awhile. I actually wrote a report on the the emotional magnitude of granite for the federal government. I was told it was tripe and to rewrite it from scratch as any good government scribe would do.

Hey David, I'm considering purchasing a Pro Writing Aid Premium and sticking to Grammarly free version. I figure there's no need to subscribing to Grammarly. Consistent with that, I intend to use both platforms. Two questions: should I start revising with Grammarly first and PWA second? Do both platforms function well for revising the same text? Thanks a bunch for the great work,,, My 7-old son had a real blast with the puppets' performance at the end of the video. Regards from Brazil!

Thanks for the review. I use the free gammerly to catch those pesky commas, and it will catch spelling errors like were/we're, yea i make that mistake, I use prowritingaid premium from there I out.

Good tip! I do it all with PWA but only because I don't like bouncing back and forth. Most of my writing is more long-form, so it's the best tool for the job.

I was considering getting Grammarly since my native language is German but using English for writing feels better somehow. Fact is I can’t really write anything in English because I’m nowhere near good enough and I can’t really write anything in German either because it just feels wrong to do so... Anyway. Thank you for this video. I didn’t even know there was any service that’s like Grammarly. And ProWritingAid does sound a whole lot better. Now I’m gonna go and sell a kidney so I can afford it lol

Not meaning to knock on already made it writers but, Twilight & 50 shades series were beyond riddled with all these flaws we 're trying to cleanup. And it's befuddling when you realize their books also passed through the hands of professional publishing house editors. Does this mean we are overthinking it or are these just outliers?

I've been using Prowritingaid for about a month and my writing has improved. It's like a checker and writing coach in one. I do find some odd things with the program. Sometimes it will call out words and offer bizarre spellings. For example it tried to suggest 'Haven't you' as 'have n'tyou' Also the wordcloud plugin was not created by them and they don't support it. It does not not save images forcing you to copy it into something else like photoshop. It is a computer program and has no real knowledge of language and nuance. Lastly, it does have a word limit. Anything over 10000 words the plugin starts to hang and not work properly. I found it easier to chop my novel into chapters (roughly 2500-5000 words) and it has not had a problem since. I do love this program and it has made editing so easy. I use a basic strategy of what to run first like fixing Sticky sentences. Then overused words, close duplicates etc. There are SO many reports in the program that have to figure out your own workflow. Now I can edit a chapter in a few hours.
@DavidBadurina
@DavidBadurina 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right (on all counts!). I usually throw down chapters of about 3K words so I haven't had a word limit issue though it can hang up on the summary page from time to time. And absolutely - I do a grammar check first, then go to style, sticky, etc., then a last grammar check. It really is a great tool. Glad to hear!

@DavidBadurina
@DavidBadurina 4 жыл бұрын
You can save documents and such, but I would not use it for writing/saving. There's no formatting options and things like that. I wouldn't consider it a writing platform. I use it to paste in from other documents, then paste back into their original (saved/backed up) locations.
