not known to the general public, but which deserves to be.

He certainly deserves to be more well known, but when I sort of asked Andrew Sandoval via email if he could do something about it, he opened up my eyes to the obvious: small solo output from Gately (two albums, already released on CD and streaming, a couple of solo singles) and the lack of interest of nearly everybody besides a few of us out there in the world. Too bad, he was a major talent, best friend of Al Kooper (his words), who refuses to talk much about him (maybe due to sadness), frequent collaborator of Robert John, who made the charts a few times, but had a major smash (not written with Gately, unfortunately) with Sad Eyes, etc. Robert John also kind of fell off the radar, sadly, I would love to talk to him.

Big fan here for many years. Always felt like he was perfect for a reissue label, but i guess no interest. Finally got my hands on this 45 (battle in the city) so now have a complete set of his work. At least the few fans out there can continue to enjoy his work. Much love

I landed here because I heard Michael Gately on either 'Come to the Sunshine' or 'Echo Valley'. Looking around online, there's almost zero information about Him. I suspect his untimely passing was caused by the same thing that sadly killed a lot of other young men in the early 80s. R.I.P.
