About Caro▸
I grew up in Sydney, Australia in a family that never went camping or on outdoor adventures. So it came as a surprise to discover hiking and camping in my mid 20’s and it fast became somewhat of an obsession.
Since then, I’ve become a leader with the Sydney Bush Walkers Club, Search Commander with NSW SES Bush Search and Rescue (responsible for the Blue Mountains region), navigation teacher and author of 'How to Navigate - The art of traditional map and compass navigation in an Australian context.'
I'm passionate about connecting people to wild places in meaningful ways that look after both people and these precious places.
Apart from sharing tips here on my KZbin channel, my website and socials, you can find me as a regular contributor to Wild Magazine, Great Walks Magazines and other outdoors press. You might even catch me live on ABC radio Weekends with Simon Marnie and appearing as a speaker and workshop host at events such as Bushwalking Australia Conferences, ProBlogger, ORIC (Outdoor Recreation Industry) Conference, SheWentWild or the Women’s Adventure Summit. I am a member of the ASTW (Australian Society of Travel Writers) and you can also find me on TravMedia.
I am a brand ambassador for Macpac and Zoleo and some of the links within my site are affiliates. This means that I may earn a small commission from what you may purchase, whilst you pay no more. A nice win-win way of supporting my work that I really appreciate. Thanks!
Brands may buy my time, but they can't buy my opinion.

Looks fantastic & love those huts 🥰
@LotsaFreshAir

Yeah, it's a good balance between the public huts (the large shelters with the heavy doors) and the small 4 bed hiker huts that are the bookable guided tours. I really like the architecture of them both.

Great vid thx - you are a 'Getaway' level travel presenter. With the water from the tanks, how do you treat it before consumption?
@LotsaFreshAir
@LotsaFreshAir 9 ай бұрын
Ah, that's very kind of you to say. I've worked behind the camera for over 20 years and only stepped in front for something I believe in... bushwalking. re: Water tanks - there's lots of ways to treat water. I've got an article on it here: lotsafreshair.com/how-to-treat-drinking-water/ - hope it helps!

Great video and really helpful with my planning, thank you! I see that there is the option now to skip campsites. In your opinion, which stops can be feasibly skipped? We’re experienced thru hikers 😊
@LotsaFreshAir
@LotsaFreshAir 11 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! So glad you liked it. Hmmm, tricky question. I know that a few people skip Bugiga and Wannon, but it makes for a few pretty long days... but being experienced you'll know all about early starts ;-) Def not something to do in warmer weather, when lugging the extra water kilos up/down. Best bet would be to grab the official maps and compare the ascent/descent/kms/terrain with your own experience. Don't forget there's also 'other' campsites off the main route that are options in quite a few places, so with a wee-jiggle of the itinerary you could do something a bit different. Enjoy!

How did you do the photography for this video? I can see some parts where you must have had another person videoing but for most of it, did you use a phone or a GoPro or similar. Keep this good stuff coming. Excellent. Peter S

Aha! Gotcha Peter. I can confirm I shot every single image in this video. I travelled alone (except for the night at the huts) and shot it all on GoPro. ;)
