Gran Turismo 4 REMASTERED - New Sounds, Textures, Mods! 4K Gameplay Compilation

People have been debating on whether to consider Gran Turismo 4 in it's modern state a "Remaster". After a long time of being hesitant, I can now finally consider it being worthy of that title.
The Spec II mod (hopefully releasing this summer) introduces new car sounds, camera angles, content, and quality of life improvements. I am using a demo build of Spec II in this video, so some sounds are subject to change. There is no public release of the mod at this time, with the exception of the randomizer mod.
The upscaled textures by GTAFan and Hatersbby, and the upscaled HUD/UI textures by silentwarrior provide a (mostly) solid boost in graphical clarity. Paired with progressive scanning and PCSX2's upscaling & shader features, these changes give a nice update to the look of the game.
The GT Modding Hub also features a large catalog of PCSX2 cheats for everything from traditional 'cheat' features, to aesthetic changes and features like chase camera settings, controller input improvements, and much more.

Because the modern devs stopped listening to their actual customers. Look at how boring GT7 gets unless you’re a dedicated online player. These games you could do for hours on end by yourself

The fact that GT4 is the most talked GT game about being remastered than the other GT games (well except the latest one), just really proves that GT4 is the best GT game of all time. Remastered 5 and 6 would probably be focused on sounds, and the issue about standard cars.

A HD Remaster of GT 5 with better sound and higher resolution is good enough for me , but having premium quality on all cars would be a damn good bonus. I've played GT 4 to death and GT 6 had an underwhelming career mode. GT 5 was fantastic after the final updates. Really happy that fans try to improve GT 4 , if only there was a official GT 5 Remaster. But due to licensing etc that is very unlikely. That game had some great tracks.

The crazy thing is that in some ways this looks better than GT5 & GT6 because those games had this overly bloomy and blown out lighting, IMO.

Agreed. Certain aspects of PS2 shading makes the game look more authentic, not unsimilar to how some western movies look more realistic than newer cinema due to their no-frill cinematography.

GT5 is definitely over bloomed...but I've spent hundreds of hours on GT4 (my favorite of the series BY FAR), on PCSX2 with maximum fidelity...but you really can't say it looks better than GT5 on rpcx3 with max fidelity. Just have a race at Madrid, with 16 premium cars, all at 4k and 60fps...there's no comparison

GT3 has its own overhaul mod in development, GT3 Concept by Misuka. It doesn't seem close to release yet, but it's been progressing really nicely with MotoGP bikes shown off a couple weeks ago.

This mod is almost perfect...if only they could un-censor the tobacco sponsorships on the rally cars! I love everything else, including the higher quality models, but it still feels wacky to see either blank space or "LANCIA RACING" on them instead of Marlboro or Martini.

One thing about the HUD. I thought it's not possible to import custom HUD elements as it would overlap with the original files of the HUD. How is this possible tho? EDIT: i noticed at 10:57 seems to be some pop-in of the new textures overlapping the old ones. Maybe the draw distance could be thrown up a noth or two?

Back when I used a 1080p monitor I still noticed a difference between running at 1080p vs 2160p internal resolution. If your GPU can handle it, run internal res as high as possible regardless of display resolution

Does it fix the spec inaccuracies of cars as well? Ie.. Peugeot 905 slow shift Panoz Esperante GTR-1 being 150kg too heavy. With it also having drastically wrong chassis dimensions. The devs for some silly biased or racist reason gave the Panoz the chassis and wheelbase of a compact hatchback. Lister Storm and XJ220 Race Cars were also severely overweight in all GT game they appeared in. So is their weight 1125 and 1080 kg respectively like they should? Making the Toyota 88C-V faster than it was in life. It was an unreliable failure in reality and thus should be bad in game not the best. Hmm the time they messed up on a Japanese car it was for the better... hmmm sus. Lastly, fixing the inaccurate inefficient braking distance for some MR and especially RR cars. In GT3 and GT4 RR cars have longer braking distance to where they are almost useless to drive. When in reality MR and RR cars have better braking because the way weight transfer works. Engine in back means during hard braking less weight transfer to the front making all brakes have almost even weight for function. I sure hope they fixed these 'GLARING' issues for a game that 'claims' to be a "real driving simulator'.

I gave a chance to this game multiple times, I really wanted to love it, but the phisycs is just so strange to me. Cars feels like paper cars, and they always feel like they are flying and always drifting when you try to go just a little agressive... Too bad cause the game is brilliant overall, but that "simcade" physics ruins it for me.

Unlikely. The vanilla game uses a 2 layer disc and has zero unused data left over. Spec II adds quite a lot to it, which is why the online beta version of the game is used instead as it has half the data and comes on a single layer disc

The dirt tracks look like they have far more realistic handling than those in GT 7. Wish I could play this game with my Simucube 2 Pro and it have all the telemetry data for an immersive experience.

Still a bunch of beehives and vacuum cleaners. The sound is the only thing that ever needed fixing...and it still is, aside from the one clip of the exterior cam of the Impreza (still sounds awful from every other view).

It depends. Saves for vanilla GT4 won’t work at all. However I have a save from GT4 online that’s been working for my Spec II build (so far at least) which technically is a GT4 Online build and I assume my randomizer save would work too.

I think I'll make the switch if it's worth it, the good thing is that now you have cheats to ease through the licenses if you completed them not too long ago. I hope the mod doesn't reset progress after each new update as it happened with GT2 Plus. Personally I don't have the time or heart to get invested into saves only to wipe them off every year. I was certainly not expecting the F1 GTR to have the RPM correct on the sound. Most people who mod it normally do it too low for chase cam because they don't know Doppler Effect

I just hope the texture "remasters" aren't all sucky AI upscaling. It works alright for "organic" things, but any vehicle livery will look terrible. I'm also waiting for a hood cam mod instead of bumper cam.

Textures aren't part of my mod, that's a separate emulator-level mod that you can enable or disable as you please The camera mod also adds a proper bonnet camera to every car

Anxiously waiting on this. I've put way more time GT4 on PCSX2 than I did on the OG PS2, it's just an infinitely better experience that does the game so much more justice, especially with a wheel. I wonder if attempts to dig into the physics will be made, as I've had complaints about the differential physics from day one that I'd love to see improved.

What always baffles me... people asking for a Hood/bonnet cam since ages. Meanwhile PD places their cameras randomly on the roof and sometimes on the hood. While modders easily add a hood and roof camera.... Whats so hard for a Developer to do the same???
