Gran Turismo 7: It Only Took Them 7 Months

A change which was long overdue.
Update 1.25 has fixed a long standing issue with Gran Turismo 7 which is the large distance between cars on rolling starts. This would always lead to a lack of racing, particularly on lap 1. This change, combined with a very good combo of Trial Mountain in Gr.3 cars has led to a very fun race to take part in.

So that's why the races seem better this week. I didn't notice that the rolling start was improved, but could tell something made the racing more fun lol. Now they just need to close the gap by half so we can have realistic starts and full chaos.

Agreed. I remember saying in one of my last GT Sport videos that I was looking forward to racing on the classic tracks. We've had Trial Mountain races already on GT7 but this feels like the first proper one where you actually race closely.

Because they weren’t interested in making a fun, well-maintained, competitive racing game. They just wanted a vehicle for a continuous revenue stream of people buying credits to unlock cars. But thankfully enough people loudly told them it was terrible and greedy that they had to actually give a damn and put fixes in before the entire playerbase abandoned it.

Small tip for bumper cam, the ends of the rev bar is more or less the width of your car. There are some exceptions like some open wheelers, but for most cars, the rev bar shows the width

What is better on ACC cockpit? Just curiosity. In GT7 for me it is hard to be consistent with cockpit view. I use hood view.

@@pmlsantos a Proper (functional) wheel HUD (like it always shows ABS OFF, TCS OFF than to be real time), lap timer, you hear the little knickknacks of the track like gravel hitting the undercarriage, on-board head movement of the driver (whenever it leans on turns)…I may be missing a few more things but those are some I remember

I don't even own gran turismo or even a PlayStation since gran turismo 3 but I just love these videos. Would be cool if they trialed rolling starts with 2 lines of staggered cars. Would make the drag race to the first corner epic. Although forza first corner ptsd would start to set in

Yeah it's a tough one. It'd be good to have closer racing but at the same time, we don't want it to be a bowling alley at turn 1. I think these gaps are good, if not a little closer would be better and yes, maybe make them slightly more staggered.

Decided to sit and grind some good old daily races for the first time in weeks - and this one didn't dissapoint. The A lobbies were more chaotic than i expected, but this track produced a lot of dynamic battles. Also reached A+ rating for the first time!! The future of GT7 is looking bright

I agree 100%. I love this track and to have it in Gr3, which iam not the best at, it has been quite an enjoyable race. I did not practice, I just went right in with 7 mins to the start and did 3 laps and went straight in. 1st race was horrid. started 14th, and crashed in T1 but finished 12th. 2nd race started 12th and finihed 5th. So yea. Loving this. I will try to get in some more races before the new set of races start

The spread out slower starts makes sense for ~10+ lap races but in quicker daily races you generally see in GT7 the tight pack rolling starts are SO much better

I've recently been playing GT3 a lot, with plenty of races at this track I could see all the differences in it but noticed that it still has a similar character to the OG (main changes were the longer straights, some different elevation changes, wider track all round and a tight final chicane) still, RIP Mountain Sling

love the change. it balances out the race quite a bit. it gives people the opportunity to be in the race even if they didnt qualify as well. at the same time is reduces the advantage of that pole position. that part i appreciate the most. its all great and wonderful to achieve a good qualifying time but its sometimes quite boring when you dont have to really defend it that much. good on polyphony for making a change that actually improves the feeling of racing

Hey Super GT, You missed one other problem, GT Sport allowed for brake bias adjustment in a race, qualification or time attack. Now they don't let you adjust it in GT7, defeats the purpose behind their new wheel for Fanatec and Thrustmaster.

Recently switched to GT7 on PS4 pro platform. Playing on the pad is really giving me a hand pain LOL, and considering to switch to a racing wheel. My budget is $400 max and seeing that I don't have many options. T248, T300RS and G923 seem like my options... I'd like to hear your honest opinion. If you're mastering the BMW that well and you look for funny races, I suggest you the Jaguar: it's THE car you want to drive when you start from behind. As far as I can see in your video, the jaguar is good everywhere you would need the BMW to be better: at the apex, in the exit and in the slipstream. It's advantage: the grip on low gears and the long gear box. Even if they reduced the big advantage it had, the acceleration still make a difference on most other cars. The biggest minus is at the breaking, the front is pretty heavy so you have to slow down more to make the car rotate and enter the corner but once you're in the right angle, the grip alloids to accelerate sooner and stronger. It's my favorite part: I don't need to cover the inside when under attack, I let it wide open and cross back in the exit most of the time. If it's a straight line after the corner, I would retake my position 7 times on 10. It's even 9 times on 10 in the pit straight of Dragon Trail littoral, the funiest part of the game for me, how many tried at each race and failed because even if they overtake me, the jaguar is so good in the slipstream I have time to re-overtake it. Some spent all the race long trying at each laps unsuccessfully. I managed to beat multiple McLarens on Monza without chicane but the tiniest mistake and the penalty are not alloided: The Jaguar goes as fast as the McLaren in its slipstream. If I don't win the race, I consider ending on the podium a victory in itself with a car almost 20kmh (or was it 30) slower in the straight line Finally but an important part in my opinion: the Jaguar can overtake almost all cars in the pit straight line of Suzuka which means no need to make a desperate move at the chicane, just wait for turn 1.

I haven't raced online in GT7 for three months because how terrible the experience had become, I tried again after watching your video, and now I don't think it's a 100% good thing to make rolling start gaps closer. People missing braking point and crashing into my back or side happened a lot more often than before, maybe they didn't miss braking points more often but because the gap is now way closer, it's more likely for them to bump into someone; and when I was forced into the barrier, I got a 1.5s or even 3s penalty and I was already at the back of the grid because of the crash. It might have made things better for top split players like yourself, but for us less skilled players (I'm at A/S but nowhere near the top split), who also get matched with less skilled, especially in racecraft, it produced way more unnecessary lap 1 incidents, plus GT7's terrible blame-everybody penalty system, it is actually even less enjoyable.

With the switch to the bumper cam, I have to say I'd personally feel like I wouldn't be able to place the car as well and maximize the track. There's absolutely no reference to the car itself, so confidently hitting apexes would be a challenge. I think the first lap shows exactly that. I know steve said you get the mirror and the sounds are better, so if he's liking it, awesome, but I'd rather be knowing where my front tires are.

so how fun would that be in the daily races you can practice all you want but then have an extra tab that says qualify and you get 2 laps to put up your best time once you do it that's it no more chances. So you would have practice , race , and qualify once you qualy and get your time that's it no more improving for the week can still practice to get faster but will start based on qualy time

(also bystanders) 😂 I rented a convertible Mustang while in Austin for the USGP at the Circuit of the Americas, and can confirm the back end steps out with all driver aids activated, and an automatic EcoBoost 4 cylinder no less. A fun car, but not a quality, or safe car. 😅

Idk why I can’t just have a full tach and rear view mirror while using the hood/roof view. The bumper view isn’t the worst but seeing the front of your car helps judge with distance and closeness to walls. Classic Japanese video game engineering at its finest

I'd love to see them also fix the damn rolling start A.I.... If they could program it to balance the speed realistically instead of just pressing depressing 3 times a second gas pedal and causing this unrealistic jerking as well as if they could program the A.I. at the rolling intro to do stuff that's unique so that the rolling intro looks realistic... E.G. warming up the tyres swerving left right but in a different line and different intensity to others around.... some finish sooner warming up some later....

PD are realising they had better in GT Sport with the starts but it was related to the 0.750 slipstream so would start 0.5-0.6 distance but it works much better than 1.2 gaps
