Gran Turismo 2 is my favourite game of all time, even though I have, or I have played ton of racing games, but I find GT2 to hit that perfect spot with it's mix of arcade and sim, really well made "campaign", amazing tracks and great car list. And it was so advanced! You can not only use analog stick to steer but also to accelerate/break, the menus have two amazing camera modes (second one is great for drifting), you can even chose one of three fov presets. I love how cars handle, how different they are, how on one hand it's arcadey, but demanding, sim-based but very natural. I return to this title most often, and only game where I like driving mechanics as much is Project Cars 2. Gran Turismo 1 seems very different to me, like a prototype that haven't figure out tons of things yet, like the external view, collision detection, cornering, and so on, but when it came out there was nothing that felt that natural, as opposed to arcade racing games of it's period, or games that tried to be realistic like toca series. And also it was revolutionary in how open it was (it's not a game to be "beaten", it rather offers you a hub of different cups and races, even more visible in second game. I also love the style of the menus, the music, the color palette used (i adore these things in both of these games, as well as in gt3 and partialy gt4). Damn I love these games, although gt1 for me isn't 10/10 game as GT2 or GT3 is.

Played GT2 for the first time 2 years ago, so no nostalgia for me. I consider it as one of the best GT games

I tried to not let nostalgia get in the way of a fair review which I think I managed to do quite well.

GT2 is still my second favorite GT after 4. Over 600 cars in a PS1 game still shocks me! 😊👍

Hi mate! loving your videos awesome reviews!, GT2 is the best GT but you already know that! two questions i have: have you played the other Gran turismos with a wheel or with a controller aswell? i have a controller myself but i am on a GT spree and i did all gt1 and just beat all gt2 except the manufactures events, got my ps2 and ps3 here, thinking about buying a logitech GT wheel to continue my journey with GT 3,4,5,6 and Sport you mentioned using the ps classic controller and ps4 so i got curious wanted your opinion about using a wheel? and do you plan to review GT Sport?
@MontegoReviews3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I play with a controller as I don't have a lot of space at the moment. I can only really use a wheel if I'm sitting in the right position. I don't understand how people can use a wheel whist sitting in something like an office chair. I am planning on reviewing GT Sport at some point, but when it's easier to buy a PS5. I could just buy a PS4, but I would only use it for one game and so it would be a waste of money.

@@MontegoReviews nice thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay. i am very much into gran turismo but not so much into sim racing. ive played mostly with controller all my life but i got a wheel and ive been replaying all gts, now playing GT3 and it is somehow better than i remember. about GT sport but now i am seriusly thinking to abount getting it to test out the multiplayer before GT7 is out next year. love racing games and obvisly you too! have a good day :)

I agree that you shouldn't have to do license tests before you can race. Especially when the same rules that apply in those tests don't apply to the races. The argument I commonly hear in favor of those tests is, 'You wouldn't drive a car in real life without taking a test, would you?' This isn't real life. It's a video game. While it may be more realistic than anything before it, it's still a video game. Gran Turismo 2 will always be my favorite racing game of all-time. As another commenter posted, they hit that sweet spot between realism and arcade racing. I also really love how quickly you can acquire money in GT2 from prize cars. This is great because you have a realistic chance of actually being able to try all 600 cars. The later games made it much harder to acquire money, yet most of them kept increasing the amount of cars. A mistake, IMO. Also, Polyphony should have used the career mode setup from GT2 when they made the PSP game. It would have let players play the games in small chunks yet still earn lots of money.

I agree with every point that you've made. It's a bit of a coincidence that you mention GT PSP as that is my next review.

Possibly. I want to review most of the AAA racing games and a few sandbox games first.

Only a hundred car limit? Is there no way around this?

I can't find anything that suggests that there is a way around it.

I thought like you that GT2 had poorer graphics that GT1.
