Granada: 'The Arrival' - 1990

This advert introduces the 2.9 litre engined Granada Ghia. Clearly aimed at the executive market, the advert shows a new manager joining a company and impressing everyone with his choice of car.

Even for the 90's there must have been a huge profit margin on these Granada cars. Using the dated, noisy and low powered Cologne V6 units which are almost as old as dinosaurs. Not to mention no body panels were galvanised and there were no evidence of wax injection. A car that looked good but was built to a price, sold for a high margin profit and used technology that was essentially obsolete. The 4 speed auto box was also short lived being largely worn out by 80k miles.

These are superb cars,me dad had 2,a ghia hatch,a scorpio saloon same colour mercury grey as that one with full rs bodykit.looked fab.i had a scorpio hatch.we never had trouble with any of them.my auto was still fine after 130000 miles.the drive trains may have bin a bit old but they just kept going and were very refined,smooth and comfortable.would love another some day,expecially a saloon.

Nice advertisement. Here in the US, we knew it as the Merkur Scorpio. It's been a while since I've seen one.

Except that all the US Merkurs were produced in Germany even though the car was designed by Ford of England. It was the fluctuating exchange value of the US dollar to West German mark that ultimately priced the car too high to ever be popular.

Ford Granadas were awesome cars in billions of ways I wish I could have owned and or driven a Granada

I've owned 2.0 GL one back in the day.. They were pretty good cars. I've owned better cars of course but Grananda were not bad and very comfortable on long runs.
