My parents rented their video and tv till the 2000’s. My brother and I bought them a flat tv and with the money saved got a virgin media v+ box.

Remember them well, mum and dad rented from them for years. I remember the video recorder they rented it was a remote control model with the remote attached by about 8ft of wire lol

My parents rented a Granada Stereo TV with a stereowide mode and twin speed Granada linear stereo Dolby System VHS video recorder, and my parents bought AV leads and connected them together, the stereo sound on VHS linear stereo releases was amazing and the stereo wide mode on live and recorded material made mono shows sound like they were in stereo especially comedy, music shows, variety shows and live outside broadcasts with lots of sounds. Later on my parents got a motorised satellite dish system added to our set up and we also received satellite programmes in analogue stereo using Wegener PANDA 1 noise reduction on movie channels, music channels, entertainment services, The Arts Channel, The Children's Channel, and many more.

Just paused at the video tape selection. Halloween2, Alien, Saturday Night Fever, Superman :) Think we got two free rentals when we hired our VCR off them. Also got a free, blank, 30 min tape too :)

Those 1983 video players seemed smaller than I remember. Granada must have been a good company to rent from. Their engineers wore overalls and everything 😂

The first ones were bulkier especially the beta max players.

Reminds me of the time someone came to fix our video recorder, my nan was staying with us when she walked in the lounge and the engineer had his back to us. This guy had a blonde ponytail and my nan “ oh you don’t see too many women fixing tvs” , he turned around with his big beard and went “uh”. How we laughed !

What brand were those device (vcr and tv) from Granada?

VCRs were usually Hitachi or Sharp, TVs from the late 70s onwards were mainly weighted in favour of Scandinavian makes like Skantic and Salora, but could be anything really! Before that Granada Rentals re-badged pretty much anything.

That was the year is 1983 is over 40 previous years ago in 2024. When it comes to 2033 in 9 years time 🕰️ from 2024, it will be aged 50 years old is half a century is 50 years. Of course that 9 years will come and go quickly into the year 2033 that I’ll be aged 56 to 57 years old if I can 👌 make it. 👍
