I know I’m responding to a 4 year old video, but here goes… We’re camped in a really nice commercial CG in Boulder, just south of Pinedale. I had seen Marc’s video about Green Mountain Lakes and was excited about the prospect of doing some boondocking up there. We drove up to do some scouting. First, the whole valley is stunning, with some spectacular sites. The mountains coming into view at the end is one of the most amazing views I’ve seen. That said, the road is horrible. There is no way I would pull my trailer in there. I’m going to have to check every nut and bolt on my truck after that round trip. I talked to an old timer in Pinedale who said he’s never seen the road in worse condition. So beware.

I drove to the spot in a big Ford SUV in Sept 2023. The road is so bad that I was worried it would do permanent damage to the vehicle. AND - I wasn’t towing anything! My recommendation is to avoid the road unless you are in a nimble 4x4, don’t even think about hauling an expensive trailer on that road.

Spent a few days fishing there and didn't catch a thing. The fish are in the little lakes right before the first big lakes. Silver dollar lakes I think they were called. A stopped and asked a guy and his fish were amazing. Go for Cora and you'll hit the lakes.

Looked like a very nice place. You said you could go past the campground and boondock. Isn't the campground boondocking?
@GrandAdventure5 жыл бұрын
It's an absolutely wonderful place. For us, boondocking = dispersed camping, not dry camping in a campground. Others, of course, may (and sometimes do) define it differently.

I've read a few different reviews of the road leading up to the campground. have heard anywhere from 1.5hrs to 2 hrs for that 19 miles and that the road is horrible if you're pulling a camper. Can you advise how bad this road really is?

Noticed that there were no motorhomes, A's or C's shown in your campground shots. Is the entry to difficult for them or was it a coincidence? Also, you visit a lot of beautiful areas, most from gravel roads, could you start mentioning whether or not you saw motorhomes or if you think they will generally be able to reach those areas. I understand it's subjective, a lot of folks wont take one on gravel, but is the road one you would consider passable for most is my question.
@GrandAdventure5 жыл бұрын
It's definitely passable by any vehicle, Russ. In fact there was a Class C directly downstream of our boondocking site that's visible in some of the aerial shots. The question is would you *want* to drive it in whatever you're driving, for as mentioned the road is very heavily washboarded -- our dinette window's fire escape latches rattled open as we drove out more times than I can remember. And as you say it's very subjective, but we'll make it a point to discuss accessibility by different types of rigs in subsequent videos that we do for Campendium. As this was our first video for the channel, and we had already shot the on-location footage we didn't have the opportunity to do so this time.

As with all ground water, filter it first. Giardia inhabits most ground water and there's cattle grazing along the river banks.
