Loved this. As a 19-year old in the late 60's, hiking the Grand Canyon was first on my list, which is now known as The Bucket List. I spent the night at the Phantom Ranch and came back the next day. I have since partially walked the Bright Angel Trail several times. Of the dozens of national parks I have been to, Grand Canyon is still one of my favorites.

Thank you for sharing this video with us!!!! We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon at some point. I’ve wondered about the mule rides offered at the Canyon, but never knew anyone who had tried it. Now I have a sense of what it’s like. It is an absolutely gorgeous trail!!! The mules are incredible, wondered how many times they’ve gone up and down those trails. They sure are sure-footed! Maybe I’ll muster up enough nerve to try it 🥴

Great review of what the trail ride is all about. For those of us who have seen the mules lined up at the top of the canyon but did not have the time nor the reservation to ride, we now have an idea of what it was like. Disregard any negative comments. The 40 thumbs down are from those who wish they could be there, those that are dissatisfied with their lives but make no effort to improve themselves and want everyone else to share in their misery. For the animal rights crazies, mules were bred for this type of work and can handle it with ease.
@georgesealy47065 жыл бұрын
I agree. Yep, this is what mules do. It's a piece of cake for them. I have seen the mules over at the stables a number of times. They are better fed and have better medical attention than a lot of humans.

My Dad and I went to the bottom of the canyon on mules when I was about 12. ( 40 yrs ago) It was so much fun! Although, it was 120 degrees out and I did not drink enough water. Back then, only the leader had a canteen for everyone to share. We only had a drink when he decided to stop. Once we reached the bottom, we were waiting to be assigned our cabins. I past out from heat exhaustion. They got me to our cabin and gave me water. I slept the entire night 😢 In the morning I was fine and was able to enjoy a wonderful breakfast with our group. 😊

@@tagyouritification it's really fun and most definitely safe, mules are very sure footed animals even more so than horses. They will move fine, its just that some people have trouble getting them to start moving because they are to gentle and scaced. You really have to kick them or give them a little whip with the back of the reins to start movin but after that its very enjoyable.

Is this Yellowstone Park Arizona? because I took that trial by foot all the way down to the lower fall in 1990. I never trusted the mules. Some time they will stop and look down the cliff as if deciding to jump to take an easy way down. The guide said that there has been no accident as such. I was young in my early 20's and could climb like a mountain goat. On the way up I herd the other climbers passing comments that I might be park ranger. Now I am 50, watching this video in Pakistan reminding me of good old days.

I did some research ... apparently (as of this date 11/21/17) no one has died on a mule ride but there have been several injuries all involving the mule stumbling ... one of the people involved in one of those incidents said, "it's only a matter of time" until someone goes over the edge. I had my own horses, I was a wrangler that rode the drag, I know these animals know their job & they're good at it, but you can't account for a loose rock, a snake, or anything else that could throw the animal off balance ... and it's a looong way down
