This footage is gold to me, going into such detail about how they both restored and transformed 4960 into what she is now. Unless you looked up her origins, you wouldn’t even know you’re looking at a Burlington Route locomotive. My field of study is more civil based in railroading, but man does this inspire me to use any knowledge I gain from my degree to work on steam and vintage diesels and electrics in the future should God bless me with such a rare opportunity.

If you ask me, the Star Brass 5 chime that the 4960 had on it back then is the single greatest whistle it has ever worn during its time as the GCR's flagship engine.
@wordenentertainment19972 жыл бұрын
I agree. It gave the engine a unique sound.

@@wordenentertainment1997 she also has her CBQ 5 chime. In fact the star brass sounds more of a CBQ than a UP style star brass IMHO

@@nicholasmedovich8691 Thank you for pointing that out. I really wish GCRY would put it back on 4960. While it's 6-chime is nice, but the 5-chime gave the locomotive more personality IMO.
@justahillbilly77772 жыл бұрын
@@wordenentertainment1997 I agree on the personality point. Personally, I also find it more fitting to the engine then the 6 chime it currently wears.

You know Nikolas, one layout I would’ve liked to have seen in person was Roadside America. Least I got to see the Choo Choo Barn.
@wordenentertainment1997 Жыл бұрын
Me too. Its a shame the family decided to close Roadside America and sell off the layout in pieces. They should have tried to sell the whole layout and building to a group willing to take it on. I still want to visit the Choo Choo Barn, but it is currently up for sale. The family for that layout is wanting it to continue, its just hard on them after Tom the owner passed away.

@@wordenentertainment1997 (Following is from another video, of which I found out what 4960's actual whistle was from 1996 to 1998. ^^) Over on a website called K&L Trainz (which has three members on there: Steve Lerro, Bill Klene, and Mark Cole), they make the most realistic, high quality, and detailed steam locomotives possible for use in Trainz via as Commissions. ^^ And my Commission goal for K&L Trainz is of course: CB&Q/GCRY O-1A 2-8-2 Mikado No. 4960 :) Mainly my goals for it are as followed: 1. Her whistle for of from 1996 to 1998 can be heard on it, and just so those don't forget it and not be limited to her modern day 6 chime all the time. ^^ 2. Wanna make sure I can get the 2nd instance to have my name in credits via a major railroading thing, following after the success of having my name appear in the credits of Pentrex's Big Boy 4014 Returns to Steam DVD. ^^ After all though.... and one thing's for sure.... I wanna make sure no one doesn't end up beating me to commissioning the 4960 though. ^^'

I'd like to get K&L Trainz to do a model of my personal favorite steam locomotive currently on display, Canadian National 7456, sister to the Conway Scenic's CN 7470. If I could in the future, I'd like to form a group to acquire and restore 7456 to operation and make promo films using the K&L Trainz system to show people the mission, but we'll wait and see what the future holds.

People wonder if a Steam locomotive can be "over-re-built"? Why, yes it can and is shown here. It's not a transformation, rather an "almost" a re-configuration, and is UN-recognizable in anybody's eye's. Sorry, but you guy's did too good of a job, but you destroyed it's "soul".
@wordenentertainment1997 Жыл бұрын
Well 4960 was in very poor condition by the time the Grand Canyon Railway acquired it. The Burlington ran it very hard and didn't do the best job maintaining the locomotive. The locomotive was actually almost scrapped and was only days away from that happening had the GCRY not stepped in. The original smokebox was also unusable since it deteriorated and the door had patches on it to the point it was unsalvageable. While much has changed, 4960 still has her soul and better than ever. Plus 3 of her Burlington sisters survive in their original looks.
