I watched some rim2rim videos before doing my hike in October of '23, but I didn't see this one. You are very thorough , much more than me. I jumped out of the truck with shorts, a Tshirt and a light overshirt. I took 3 steps and took the overshirt off and threw it in the truck lol. I did well on the training all in Ohio, lots of running and workouts in our rec center on the weight machines. I could have used some of the stretching you recommend. At 66 for a first big hike it was quite a challenge, but also amazing! The lady at the info center the day before tried to talk me out of it, And I admit I thought twice about it, but I knew I had to go or I may never get another chance :).

I'm doing this on 10/5/23, your information is spot on! I did South Kiabab to Bright Angel 2 years ago, and going down was harder than going up. I lost several toe nails. Congrats on your Rim-to-Rim.

How often did u do the supplemental lunges? Everyday type thing?
@coryoutdoors11 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin. It was usually with 3 to 4 days between. I would rotate my workouts between actual hikes, weights and lunges, and cardio. Working out about 5 days a week. Building up duration then tapering off about 10 to 12 days before the trip.

Do you know how much water you drank throughout the day?
@coryoutdoors5 ай бұрын
@WRIGHTWAY5280 Great question! I typically drink about 1 liter for every 4 miles of hiking. In this dry environment I might have had a little more. Also when I ate lunch I probably drank almost another liter. Oh and I had a lemonade at phantom ranch.

No extra socks?
@coryoutdoors5 ай бұрын
@WRIGHTWAY5280 Nope! I was familiar with how my shoes and wool socks performed on long hikes. They don't give me hot spots or blisters. So that was one less thing to pack.

No way I would want to carry my camping gear on R2R!
