J Squad Vlogs phenomenon of magnetic pull of the earth which is exactly what it sounds like, when on edge at great height from center of the earth, a planet turning on its axis. If one were to lose their balance, the body would attempt to resume its position by leaning toward the pull of this force, the center, and unfortunately, that is the earth’s center. This man was said to have stumbled before he fell. These people should tether themselves to a nearby solid structure so to prevent this kind of tragedy.

Agreed, I just got back from the south rim of the canyon, and was amazed at the only protection from the edge of it is that little 2 ft brick wall, and some railing in other areas the integrity of which I would not test. I got excellent shots and can’t understand why anyone would temp fate by venturing over that wall

We were just there four weeks ago at the Grand Canyon. We did take some close to the edge photos (no guardrail) when we hiked down about three miles from the top of the South and North rims to a lower area but we were careful and made sure we had stable footing. We were very careful when it was windy as it was crazy windy when we were there. Definitely understand the appeal and it’s sad to hear the stories in the news. We did see a lot of people do crazy things for a selfie too like climbing down rocks to get the photo most people don’t want to get to. One man went through some bushes to climb down to a flat rock area that went over the lower tunnel that had the trail to go down. A lot of people did crazy stuff . It was very interesting. We personally loved it at the Grand Canyon and had a wonderful time and plan to go back in a couple of years.

So glad you have alerted people of the danger of falling at the Grand Canyon, or any cliffs! There are locations that are railed where you can take great photos. It is common sense not to stand at the edge of a cliff! It is probably best to stay behind the railings. It can be extremely crowded there and people can lose their balance which could knock someone over. Thanks for this much needed warning. No life is worth showing off or a photo!

FYI - the SkyWalk is on the far west end of the Grand Canyon on Hualapai Reservation land NOT Grand Canyon National Park. I've been hiking/camping GCNP several times over 30 years. The first time watching sunset and Colorado River from under a rock overhang, breathtaking. A few years later I returned to the same spot to find the overhang had collapsed completely and partially fallen into the river. Erosion is how the GC was formed, reality. The danger is not only from you falling but the the falling rock as well.

I drove from Vegas to the Grand Canyon about 15 years ago.. long before people were obsessed with photos of themselves, selfies and selfie sticks. At that time I remember thinking to myself ‘someone could easily fall off taking a photo!’.. there were no guard rails at that time (like seen in this video) and seemingly no security measures. People walked to the very edge if they pleased 😬 scary!

My dad and step mom are going there in a week. My dad said he’s staying as far from the cliffs as possible. If only these people thought the same way. I understand you want a good picture but is it really worth dying for?

Just looking at that place I just knew some people have died ,and for common sense we all know that lots of people don't have one.

The worst invention in the world....a selfie stick. I would be embarrassed to carry that thing around. Back I guess in the old days when people actually communicate with each other we asked others around if you mind taking a picture with all of us. Of course. Snap snap. Thank you.

"Tech giants have promoted a culture of selfies." Wtf are you talking about? People have been taking pictures of themselves for as long as it has been possible.

People should NOT be allowed to take selfies in dangerous places like that. My wife and I have been there, but followed the park ranger's directions.

Even if a sign is posted---No Selfies, there is always some idiot that thinks the rules are for everyone but them. We saw this during Covid when Gavin Newsom was at an expensive restaurant with 18 other friends and none wore masks. Nancy Pelosi and Lori lightfoot both went to a hair salon during Covid lockdown mandate, when no one else was allowed

I saw people standing off the trail outside the protective fences when I was there. They literally climbed over the fence to take pictures. I didnt even lean on the fence let alone climb over it. I stood far away. Its beautiful but terrifying in some spots

I was just there Sunday 05/19/19; You can stand back wayyyy FAR back & take Beautiful Shots without risking your life. No picture is worth dying for. Life is too precious to risk 4 a pic. There are no barriers on many parts of the Grand Canyon West Rim.......Better to be SAFE then Dead!!!!
