Thank you for figuring an easier way to replace the bushings. My 2011 GC has 226000 miles and they are due.

Well done. There is some still pictures and instructions on the web of what you just did, you just confirmed what someone wrote and took some photos of. Excellent idea with the hack saw. I knew this was going to be the hardest part, removing these damn things. I'll let you know how mine goes when it is complete.

Just seeing this video. Great idea! Do you need the ramps to this or can I just jack up the frame instead? Thanks.

Just watched another video on this repair and he did take out the diff. I think your idea will work and should be easier on a car hoist as well. Not sure about cutting a slot thou, but may do that as well. There is new poly bushes on the market now and seem a lot easier to install, time will tell.

I just could not get them back in with my bush pull kit. It bent the big threaded rod as the shape of axle housing does not allow the kit to sit perfectly true on the bush, and as you tighten it knocks it off centre and wrecks your kit. Cutting that slot makes it so much easier to get the new bush back on. In getting them out nm is a piece of cake if you slot your hacksaw blade through thr middle of the old bushing... can just pull them out with pliers

@@bobby4star I agree, bloody hard to get those old ones out, so getting the news ones in would be near impossible, but using these new polyethylene bushes went in pretty easy and they say last for ever, time will tell. Your video was very helpful, but boy I hate working under a car, check these out, but hopefully you will not need to change them out again.www.ebay.com.au/itm/232548505195?hash=item3624f8966b:g:hgAAAOSwks5ggRb0

Great thanks for that, how does your jeep feel with the polybushes? Thinking to swap my wk for a newer one so if i ever have to do this job again, will try poly bushes

@@bobby4star so far good, but need to give it a lot more time. Also they will be a lot easier to replace I think.

I suppose you could get the differential like you have it and use RTV or silicone caulking to fill in the gaps in the rubber around the bushings to strengthen them with out changing them out if they are still good.

Yes it's a piece of cake if you hacksaw a slot in the old bushes. That is the hard part, getting them out and new ones back in. Made my truck feel like a new one. Easily doable in a day

I figured from watching the videos that I am going to fill the gaps in the bushing with black RTV or silicone caulking to make the bushing solid around the metal center sleeve. Then it should last longer and be tougher and better than the OEM parts.

Its been absolutely fine, transformed the truck this repair. Don't worry about cutting that slot in the bush to make it easy to refit, it's still tight and they are not going to budge!

Don't Think german TÜV will be verry happy seeing the cutted bushings. A lot of WD40 will make the job a lot easyer!

I'm sure you're right about cutting a slot in the bushing, good luck getting them back in you may have more success then me, definately try the proper fitting first. i bent up my pulling kit trying to refit and just needed to get it done, was running out of time

don't do what this guy did. its not gonna be tight enough and now it will move around and wear out the diff. case. then your screwed

Considering some have been driving for quite a long time with the whole bushing gutted, I would say the diff. case can handle a couple mm of give.
