Whew....! The original 1988 version with the minimal, understated yet weeping guitar retorts is what sold one of the best, classic heartbreak songs coming out of the late 80s'! This rendition did it monumental justice with the beefed up, sultry vocals and the amped up emotional guitar contribution. Well done, mates! 👏👍

I recently read an article about how most new music sales are for older songs; even young people are buying old music. Perhaps people are yearning for songs like this one, good melodies, great vocals and musicianship, and great songwriting. I miss the days when melody was important: a song that after you heard it, was stuck in your head for days.

@funkfan1751 Жыл бұрын
Shawn Ray, I am a Grand Funk Railroad fan since 1970 and yea Max Carl is very talented but I just don't like the different way he sings the GFR songs. He uses different timing and shifts the emphasis on the words on songs that I have expected to sound a certain way since 1970. Bruce Kulick is a great guitarist but again he is not Mark Farner and does not play the GFR material like I want to hear it. I really wish Brewer would come to his senses and get back together with Mark Farner so the fans can hear the real Grand Funk Railroad one more time.
@shawnray2941 Жыл бұрын
@Rockin' Z's I don't necessarily disagree.....I got the live album summer before 6th grade.....so had to be 1977 I guess.....giving you a time frame for me. Kulick isn't Farner. But let's surely not pretend that Mark is anywhere near Kulicks league. Not saying Max is a better fit for the songs either.....but surely a fine replacement. I hate that we have to hold these discussions......I mean the original is typically what captures our allegiance. I been playing in bands since high school.....players come and go. Ultimately I tend to be a fan of the songs and bands rather than the individuals. One last run would be nice for sure.
@funkfan1751 Жыл бұрын
@@shawnray2941 I guess I will find out about this GFR line-up. We can't travel because of my health so this summer we are going to 4 classic rock shows and GFR is scheduled to play near us. I bought 2 tix as I figured 'What the heck, I went to see a Zeppelin Tribute and really enjoyed it so I am looking at the nGFR as a GFR Tribute. We are also going to see the Guess Who show this Saturday and the bass player is the only original member. The only show we are going to this summer that I don't have ambivalent thoughts on is the Pat Travers show, I suppose because it is called The Pat Traver's Band and I never really knew or cared who the other players were.

Max Carl co wrote this with Carlisi and Cal Curtis of 38 special. I'm mixed on this version. I kind of like it stripped down like this as opposed to the drowning in keyboards album version. You can hear his voice showcased which in my opinion is fantastic. But The guitar solo ...while better here technique wise ...on the album the solo is so soulful I like it better.
